I was there today, and each person working had such a great attitude. They interacted well with customers and were very helpful with each person. They are extremely friendly and lively in this store. It made our shoe shopping excursion a good one. They offered extra items for purchase that I hadn't thought of being the good sales people that they are. If I lived in the area, I would definitely shop there again. Great staff!

We've had 3 separate experience in 2 weeks with Asia at the Journeys in the Jacksonville Mall. Each time she has been like a ray of sunshine while assisting our party of 4 as well as the other customers in the store. The last time was today 09-02-18, she and Roxanne were absolutely a joy! We bombarded both of them with questions, an exchange, and a inquiry regarding placing an order for my granddaughter's checkered Vans. They handled our craziness with ease and kindness. She also provided my granddaughter some advice for handling her ringlet hair curls by jotting down the name of a product she uses. You don't find that kind of customer service any more. Both ladies were spectacular! Please pass along our sincere thanks and Journeys should recognize the two of them for representing their brand in such an outstanding way!

My nephew went to this store, the girl who was working there took an envelope with $800 if someone knows the information of the owner please let me know.

I ordered online, and this store sent me a pair of PREVIOUSLY ENJOYED shoes. Yes, a pair of used shoes for the price of a new pair! These shoes had a small rip in the inside, and came complete with PET HAIR on the inside!! I give it zero stars (even though the rating system forces me to choose at least 1 star). Even the box was bent up and the corners of the lid were all torn. These shoes were a present, that I obviously couldn't give. I went to the party with a beat up box of used shoes and a return ticket that the customer service sent. I will never order online again from this company. And for their less than honorable efforts, I will never shop in their retail store either. This company ought to be ashamed of themselves!

Why Saguaro's Cam Caminiti accelerated his journey to the MLB Draft

journeys jacksonville mall

Ken Caminiti died before Cam Caminiti was born. But Cam, the left-hander who made a meteoric rise in just three years of high school at Scottsdale Saguaro, heard the stories.

He saw the Major League Baseball highlights. And he wanted his cousin's number.

Wearing No. 11, Cam Caminiti dominated this year on the mound, showed off his two-way skills with his bat, and now is in position to achieve his big-league dream.

Caminiti was invited by Major League Baseball to attend Sunday's draft in Arlington, Texas, where he's expected to hear his name called in the first round. He could crack the top 10 . Only Phoenix Desert Vista shortstop Corey Myers (fourth pick of 1999 draft by the Diamondbacks) and Tucson Sahuaro shortstop Sam Khalifa (seventh pick of 1982 draft, by the Pittsburgh Pirates) have been taken within the first 10 picks of the first round right out of an Arizona high school since the 1980s.

MLB.com ranks Caminiti as the No. 15 overall prospect in the 2024 draft. He could be the youngest player taken in this year's draft at age 17.

"Cam's agent is confident that he'll be going in the first round," said Dominic Caminiti, Cam's dad. "If he wasn't, we wouldn't be going.

"It's very exciting."

Embracing his cousin's bulldog mentality

Ken Caminiti was taken in the third round of the 1984 draft out of San Jose State, made his MLB debut with the Houston Astros in 1987, became a National League Gold Glove third baseman, and, in 1996, with the San Diego Padres, was the NL MVP, hitting .326 with 40 home runs and 130 RBIs.

Ken Caminiti played 15 Major League seasons. He died in 2004 at the age of 41. Authorities cited a combination of drugs coupled with a weakened heart as contributing to his death. Ken Caminiti will be inducted into the Astros Hall of Fame next month , the team announced earlier this year.

Seeing highlights of how Ken played -- diving for balls, legging out hits, stretching doubles -- drove Cam on the baseball field to the point where last summer he decided to reclassify and graduate from high school a year early.

Cam's left arm became a lightning bolt this spring, once striking out the first 16 batters he faced in a game against Glendale Deer Valley, touching 97 miles per hour with his fastball as early as the first inning, when he needed only nine pitches to strike out the side.

But Cam also wants to hit, taking a page from superstar Shohei Ohtani of the Dodgers. He's keeping that option open as the draft approaches.

"He really wants to (be like Ohtani)," his father said. "There's several teams that like him in the outfield. They like his athleticism. They like his left-handed swing. At 17, I can only imagine what he's going to look like when he's 20, 21."

Caminiti is 6-foot-3, 205 pounds now. Throws in the high 90s. And has a changeup that keeps batters from sitting on the fastball and makes them look silly when they take swipes at it.

"The teams who have shown us really good development models, they think maybe halfway into his fourth season, he would get a chance to be a starter in the MLB," Dominic said. "If everything lined up, maybe the end of his third season."

Caminiti signed with college power LSU in November, then turned his attention to the mound for a stellar 2024 season in which he was The Arizona Republic's Player of the Year , the Gatorade Arizona High School Baseball Player of the Year and a MaxPreps' first-team All-American.

"No surprises," Saguaro coach Joe Muecke said about how well Caminiti has adjusted to his sped-up process. "The hard work is showing through in every phase of his game.

"To reclassify and still put that work in, I don't think people truly understand what that type of dedication and time, energy and sacrifice he's made,'' Muecke said. "To be able to do that, passing those classes, graduating early, but, at the same time, putting in the hours in at the facilities and team practices, and then go out and perform when the lights go on.''

Cam has taken a page out of his cousin's bulldog mentality. Last season, Cam went 9-0 on the mound with a 0.93 ERA, striking out 119 batters in 52 innings. He also hit .493 with three home runs, 33 runs scored, 28 RBIs and an on-base percentage of .679.

"He was a great player; he played as hard as he possibly could," Caminiti said about his cousin. "That's probably the main thing I take away. He just put it all out on the baseball field, every inning, every pitch."

Other high school sports news: Arizona well-represented as flag football world meets in Los Angeles

Muecke said there were two things Major League Baseball teams wanted to see out of Caminiti this year:

  • The competitor. "They saw a real big uptick in the fire that he played with on the field, the passion, that real leadership that you hope for out of a senior. What he can leave on the field. You saw that."
  • What kind of teammate he would be. "Hanging out with the guys after the game. Being one of the guys. It was never the Cam Show, even though it felt that way. It was a team mindset."

Nerves of steel showed throughout. Muecke loved the quote Caminiti gave The Republic after beating Bishop Gorman. Gorman had every player in its program in the dugout, standing the entire time, trying to rattle Caminiti on the mound.

Asked about that afterward, Caminiti said: "I didn't even hear them. They should have brought the whole school."

Since the conclusion of last season, capping a year in which he doubled his academic workload to graduate a year early, Caminiti has been working on his strength and stamina, leaving baseball mostly alone.

After pitching a two-hitter in a 2-1 win over Oro Valley Canyon del Oro, striking out 11 batters, for the 4A state championship, Caminiti has been mostly found at Banner Sports Medicine Scottsdale, a state-of-the-art facility, where he receives one-on-one attention from trainers. He also sees a mental coach. Once in a while he'll run into a big leaguer, like Diamondbacks pitcher Merrill Kelly, and soak up knowledge.

"Obviously, I want to gain more miles an hour (on my fastball)," Caminiti said. "That's just going to come with aging, maturity, getting stronger.

"I don't have a time frame. I want to get to the big leagues as fast as I possibly can. I think the biggest thing for that is to stay in the weight room, keep training, do everything I possibly can."

Whatever he has needed to do to get here, Caminiti knew early in his high school career that he was going to embrace every challenge, every new goal.

"My goals are being an All-Star, win the World Series, be a champion, and be a Hall of Famer at the end of the day," Caminiti said.

That process begins Sunday with the draft.

Shots, short poems and step stools: Here's how Florida men impressed 'Bachelorette' Jenn Tran

Season 21 of "The Bachelorette" with Florida's Jenn Tran has officially begun.

On Monday, July 8, Bachelor Nation watched as Jenn met 25 men who are out for her heart and hand in marriage.

From one man with bandages wrapped around his entire face and nothing but a hospital gown on, to another walking out of the limo with two puppies in hand, the men of "The Bachelorette" season 21 left lasting impressions.

While almost all of the men devised clever ways to stick out in Jenn's memory, seven men were sent home and one of them was from Florida.

Here's who Jenn sent home on night one of "The Bachelorette," who made it through to week two and how the three Florida men on the show fared the first night.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

Who did Jenn send home on 'The Bachelorette' night one?

Jenn sent home seven men on the premiere episode, including a fellow Floridian. Here's who didn't make it past night one:

  • Brendan, 30, a real estate broker from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
  • Brett, 28, a health & safety manager from Manheim, Pennsylvania
  • Dakota, 27, a sommelier from Paradise Valley, Arizona
  • Kevin, 35, a financial analyst from Denver, Colorado
  • Matt, 27, an insurance executive from Atlanta, Georgia
  • Moze, 25, an algebra teacher from Albany, New York
  • Ricky, 28, a pharmaceutical representative from Miami, Florida

What happened with the Florida men on the last episode of 'The Bachelorette?' Who got the first impression rose?

This season, it seemed like almost every man who met Jenn had a wacky gimmick to stand out and Florida's contestants were no exception. All three men from Florida did something unique when they met Jenn.

Brian Autz, from Boynton Beach, who is a self-proclaimed botox enthusiast and Swiftie, pulled two syringes with shots in them out of his jacket pocket.

"I want to make sure that you're up-to-date with these shots," he said. "What time is it? ... It's shot o'clock!"

"Shot o'clock! Let's get it!" Brian screamed in his first confessional.

Ricky Marinez, a pharmaceutical rep from Miami, wrote a poem for Jenn.

"I wrote a little something for you," he told Jenn. "Is she thankful? Is she (mumbles) ... Is she naked? Or in scrubs?"

Jenn's response was a short "Oh, okay!"

The third and final contestant from Florida brought a step stool with him. John Mitchell, a medical student from Delray Beach, put the stool in front of Jenn and helped her onto it.

"I just want to say that throughout this journey, I will always put you on a pedestal," John said.

"That was so smooth, I love that!" Jenn said.

When it came to making a lasting impression on Jenn, only Brian and John made the cut. But Ricky was one of the seven men sent home on night one.

Jenn's first impression rose didn't land on the lapel of either of the Florida men she decided to keep on the show. She gave it to Sam, a general contractor from South Carolina.

Are there any fan favorites, villains from 'The Bachelorette' night one?

Despite little airtime and getting sent home, social media latched onto Pennsylvanian health & safety manager Brett Harris. Hundreds of tweets flooded the trending #theBachelorette tag with their disappointment over his elimination.

"Brett said about 10 words and we’re all devastated he’s gone. This should say VOLUMES about who we actually want to see on this show," wrote @TheBachBabes on X.

Some fans shared their hope that Harris will get the "Grocery Store Joe" treatment, referencing popular contestant Joe Amabile who was also eliminated on the first night of season 14 of "The Bachelorette." He went on to appear on Dancing with the Stars and two seasons of "Bachelor in Paradise."

Another popular contestant for the night as Hakeem Moulton, a medical device salesman from Illinois. Fans noticed his facial expressions throughout the night, comparing him to "Jim Halpert" from "The Office," Anxiety from "Inside Out 2," and even past contestant Justin Glaze.

As for "villains," Florida's Brian Autz got quite a bit of negative attention when he tried to "steal" a car from Jeremy, who opted to bring his own sports car with him to the show, instead of being driven in the iconic black limo.

When it came Jeremy's turn to woo Jenn, he took her to his car instead of pulling her into one of the empty, dimly-lit rooms in the mansion. The pair sat in the car and chatted about where he is from and lives. Jenn mentioned she'd like to drive the car but there were no keys.

"I'm at the point where I can't just sit around and wait anymore," Brian told the camera. "You like guys that steal cars? 'Cause that's the only chance I got right now," he said with a laugh.

And not long after Jenn and Jeremy's conversation started, it ended with Brian walking up to Jeremy's car, keys in hand.

"Oh, you have my key?" Jeremy asked.

"Nah, this is my key right now," Brian responded. "Yeah, I'm gonna take her for a drive... It's my time with the lady."

"I'm in the most ridiculous situation," Jeremy told the camera. "Brian got my keys to my car. He's acting foolish. He's like a little kid."

"Don't let him drive," Jeremy told Jenn as he gave his seat in the car to Brian. "I'm pissed, but I'm not going to be in this 2-year-old back-and-forth in front of Jenn. I just got up. I think it was the mature thing to do," Jeremy later told the camera.

Bachelor nation fan-favorites, 'villains,' reactions from night one:

Who is left on 'the bachelorette' after night one.

Here are the 18 men remaining after the first rose ceremony, including two men from Florida:

  • Aaron, 29, an aerospace engineer from Tulsa, Oklahoma
  • Austin, 28, a sales executive from San Diego, California
  • Brian, 33, an aesthetics consultant from Boynton Beach, Florida
  • Devin, 28, a freight company owner from Houston, Texas
  • Dylan, 24, a medical student from Elk Grove, California
  • Grant, 30, a day trader from Houston, Texas
  • Hakeem, 29, a medical device salesman from Schaumburg, Illinois
  • Jahaan, 28, a startup founder from New York, New York
  • Jeremy, 29, a real estate investor from New York, New York
  • John, 25, a medical student from Delray Beach, Florida
  • Jonathon, 27, a creative director from Los Angeles, California

Nationwide sandwich shop chain opens 19th Jacksonville-area restaurant on Fleming Island

journeys jacksonville mall

A nationwide sandwich shop is ready to open its 19th Jacksonville-area restaurant in neighboring Clay County.

Jersey Mike's Subs will open Wednesday at 1560 Business Center Drive at the Shops at Eagle Harbor on Fleming Island.

As part of the grand opening, franchise owner Thomas Tyrrell is conducting a fundraiser benefitting Wolfson Children's Hospital through July 14.

"We have partnered with Wolfson Children's Hospital to raise funds that will go towards assisting it in continuing to provide outstanding care to the children of Fleming Island and surrounding communities," Tyrrell said in a news release announcing the new restaurant.

Customers who receive a special fundraising coupon distributed through a grassroots effort before Wednesday's opening can make a minimum $3 contribution to Wolfson Children’s Hospital in exchange for a regular sub. Customers must have a coupon to be eligible, according to the fundraiser. The fundraiser is only at the Fleming Island store.

The sub shop chain currently has 10 Jacksonville sandwich shops open. Also open in Northeast Florida are two Jersey Mike's in St. Augustine and one each in Atlantic Beach, Fernandina Beach, Yulee, Orange Park, Saint Johns, and Ponte Vedra Beach, state Department of Business and Professional Regulation records show.

Founded in 1956, the sandwich shop chain is known for its fresh sliced, freshly sliced made-to-order, handcrafted sub sandwiches that range in size from mini to regular or giant.

The subs can be served "Mike's Way" with onions, lettuce, tomatoes, red wine vinegar, olive oil blend, oregano and salt or guests can customize the toppings. The sandwiches also can be ordered as wraps or bowls.

Comming soon: 25 new restaurants are in the works for the Jacksonville area in 2024. Here's a list

Headquartered in Manasquan, N.J, .Jersey Mike's website lists a total of 2,734 restaurants open nationwide with about 300 more coming soon. There are about 225 in Florida, the website shows.

The restaurant’s hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
