In Europe and in most of North America and New Zealand, group sizes can range between 24 – 53 awesome travellers.

In regions like Asia, Australia, Africa and Latin America, and on some North America and New Zealand trips, our group sizes are considerably smaller – as low as 12 or up to 30 travellers max.

Detour trips offer a different type of experience and max out at 16 people led by a local host.

Wondering what is so great about travelling together? Check out the Contiki Social travel page.

Each group is administered according to our strict Covid policies which can be viewed here.

Can I book online?

You certainly can! All of our trips are available to book online, just select your preferred travel date(s) and away you go. You can also book over the phone if you'd prefer.

What’s included?

All essential trip elements have been catered to ensure a great time, with great people in great places. But you mean more specifically right?

Your accommodation, essential trip transport, and a good handful of meals are included in the cost of your Contiki trip (on most trips we offer breakfast every day, plus a hand-picked selection of authentic and tasty meals).

To fill your days and Insta feeds we have Included Experiences, which are basically the sights and activities we think you just can’t afford to miss. Of course you also get our expert and highly trained team of Contiki staff to support throughout.

A day by day breakdown of inclusions and Free Time Add-Ons are available on the trip specific pages.

We always try to accommodate special requests such as birthdays, proposals etc. Please chat to our team and we can explore how we may support the request.

What’s not included?

Contiki social travel trips have a large degree of flexibility built into them to enable you to truly own your experience. This means that some trip elements are not included in the initial cost and may require additional budgeting.

Flights to and from your starting and ending points are not included in the cost of your trip. These can be added on during the booking process either online or via our contact center or booked independently by you.

Each trip contains the right amount of free time for you to explore or indulge your travel desires. We offer Free Time Add-Ons, which are additional experiences that are not included in the overall price. These add ons are highlighted on the specific trip page. Your Trip Manager will highlight these to you and organise their booking on trip. Exceptions may apply where pre booking is required but this will be made known to you in your pre departure information.

A number of meal times are left open for you to explore a region and its foodie offerings in greater detail, so budgeting for your taste in non-catered meals is important.

Travel insurance and visas are also not included in the cost of your trip, and should be booked separately.

What are Contiki's sustainability credentials?

Travel comes with responsibilities. That’s why we’re determined to travel sustainably and consciously, and that’s why we’re willing to take a stand on issues closest to our hearts. Find out more details here . With the help of our four-point Climate Action Plan, we're now on a journey to Net Zero - committing to carbon reductions and evolving to support the transition to a low-carbon future. Find out more details here .

Yes! It’s a requirement of traveling with Contiki that you take out comprehensive insurance cover for cancellation, personal injury, death, medical expenses, repatriation expenses, evacuation expenses, personal liability & loss of personal property and Covid related expenses before you travel with us. It’s also super important to check that your insurance covers all of the activities you’ll be trying out, particularly any adventure activities (for all you adrenaline junkies). For more information check out our full travel insurance FAQs.

I especially appreciated the representative who met us at the airport and made the trek through customs so easy for us! There was a rep waiting for us at the hotel, too, in case any problems arose. Yesterday was jam-packed with activities. We weren’t rushed at all, but I really would have appreciated some quiet time to enjoy the sites more. However, with many tour buses right behind us, I guess that wasn’t possible. Today has already been remarkable, with a memorable boat ride on the Sea of Galilee, with praise music and testimonials - and some of that quiet time I craved. Our guide Barak has an amazing knowledge of the Bible and this land, his land, and has made everything come alive for us. His passion for the tour and his kindness to all of us has made everything very enjoyable.

Both Sides of the River Jordan Nov 2022

The trip was worth the wait after Covid. Skylar & Regan from AIT answered all questions & sent pertinent paperwork as needed to get us started on a memorable journey. The first week is the Roots tour with Jordan as an extension. Forty-one started with 18 going on to Jordan. If you get Yair as a tour guide in Israel, you are getting the best guide. Not only is he knowledgeable & very personable, but also funny making each stop memorable. Menahem, the bus driver, uses his driving skills in difficult situations. If women had short sleeve tops, a shawl was not necessary, but definitely needed for sleeveless tops. No need to change dollars which were accepted when credit cards couldn't be used. Have plenty of $1 bills especially for water which was sold everywhere. Crossing the border to Jordan for 2 extra nights was definitely worthwhile. Jerash ruins show a huge ancient city, but Petra is a true wonder of the world. There is a lot of walking, sometimes on uneven surfaces & uphill. An electric cart (for a fee) can be taken between the Visitors Center & the Treasury if you are unable to walk long distances. You can ride a horse part way which is included in the ticket price, but the handler will expect a tip. Once reaching the Treasury, a very short camel ride can be taken (about $5). Our guide Saleh was knowledgeable and answered all our questions. This trip not only enriched my faith as so many others have said, but I got to see different cultures and met a lot of great people.

Both Sides of the River Jordan Sep 2022

Both Sides of the River was an amazing trip, one we thought about for several years. AIT couldn't have been a better tour company, as well as our tour guide Yair who was so knowledgeable, patient, considerate and pleasant to be with. It was physically demanding and HOT (beyond AIT's control !). Two people using canes did all with us & kept up. We marched on, looking and learning, trying to absorb as much as we could from all the sights and information. Everything was planned to a T, incredible logistics. And for our arrivals & departures too and crossing the Jordan border. It was a rigorous schedule; you certainly get your "money's worth." A great group of people too who also contributed to the trip. I would not hesitate to recommend this trip and AIT to anyone. Toda ! Shakrun !

What an amazing trip of a lifetime! This well organized tour has helped me see more of the Holy Land than I would ever have seen on our own. From the planning to the tour itself, my questions were promptly answered and I was always well informed. Our guide, Yahir, was quite knowledgeable and always entertaining. The baptism at the Jordan River was a moving experience both for those who chose to be baptized and for those who cheered them on. We floated in the Dead sea, heard the story of Masada while viewing where it happened, sailed on the Sea of Galile and saw the Jesus Boat, Caperniam, and Nazareth, and so many other amazing places. We are heading to Jerusalem today and after a few days there, on to Jordan and Petra. I would recommend this tour group to anyone.

We were referred to American Israel Tours by friends who are very experienced, discerning travelers and toured with AIT in 2018. Scheduled for our trip in May 2020 it was delayed by Covid for 2 years. Regan and Skyler, the AIT staff, did a wonderful job keeping us up-to date prior to our departure and navigate Covid requirements. Upon our arrival in Israel we met our fabulous guide, Lital, who was exceptional in every way. She was knowledgeable, thoughtful, considerate, and treated our diverse, wonderful group like family. This was a trip of a lifetime and enthusiastically recommend it. You should definitely extend your trip to Jordan if possible. Our visit to Amman and especially Petra was AMAZING and our guide Saleh was excellent.

Both Sides of the River Jordan May 2022

We took the both sides of the Jordan tour. The week we seen in Israel with Yair as our tour guide and Gabi as our driver was incredible. Yair is so full of knowledge and ability to put together knowledge with order. He accomplished putting together the Bible to the place where it happened He was clear to explain when it was a certain place or a Traditional. He read passages from the old and new testament pertaining to the places we went. When we finished this tour we could not believe all the places we went to. Gaby was an incredible driver who worked with Yair incredibly well. He always would try to adjust to what Yair asked and we went to a lot of places that I feel other people did not go to. the n we finished the tour all of us in the bus felt like a family and were sad toa ago!! Can't recommend this tour company enough. We are looking forward to another tour with them and hopefully Yair, even though the people that went with Barack liked him very much. Well done to all and thank you so much for making this such a great experience with a lifetime of happy memories!

Both Sides of the River Jordan Feb 2020

Recently returned from an AIT “Roots of Your Faith” tour with visits to both sides of the Jordan. WOW! It was amazing! Both the California and Israeli based administrative teams who planned and organized the trip did so with precision and made our way comfortable and easy. We wanted to see “everything” and we did. Yair, our tour guide in Israel, made historical sites and Biblical events come alive with his knowledge, insight and presentation; and he did so in a way that faded the hectic atmosphere of some crowded sites. Our guide in Bethlehem and Emdad in Jordan enhanced our visits as well. The accommodations and hospitality at our hotels and dining rooms was excellent, particularly in Jerusalem and in Aman. Would I go with AIT again? Absolutely, in a heartbeat!

Both Sides of the River Jordan Oct 2019

Yair is guiding us on a wonderful journey through the Holy Lands. Yossi is our super bus driver. Very informative and well organized. So far, very pleased with trip!

Both Sides of the River Jordan Nov 2019

My husband wanted to go to Israel 25 years ago but with young children we hesitated to do so. Now they are grown, so we decided to go and our dream was to make our faith come alive. It was such a blessing to have the opportunity to see, touch and hear all the sounds of life today in Israel and Jordan. There is nothing like seeing the history of the Bible come alive. It is where the old and new come together and it has deeply touched our hearts. A special thank you to our tour guide Lital who shared this experience with us. She gave us just the right amount of historical information but then left us time to contemplate for ourselves as we pursued our truth. So many amazing moments! God bless you Lital and your family, it was a joy to share this experience with you!

Both Sides of the River Jordan Sep 2019

We had a spectacular and memorable adventure with our tour to Israel and Jordan. Every day was special. It was like going to the most incredible history class for 10 straight days, only experiencing everything for yourself. One of the best parts of our journey was our guide, Lital. She helped bring the sites to life in a way I had not expected. If you are thinking about booking this trip, ask for Lital to be your guide. Much love and thanks to all who put on our trip. Ron B.

What people love about Fully Guided Tours in Israel and Jordan

My wife and I went on a 17-day tour of Israel, Jordan, and Egypt. The tour was well orchestrated. All the details of getting into and out of countries were handled professionally and with little cause of concern to us. Hand-offs between countries went well. We were guided by knowledgable people who had our best interests at heart (with possibly one exception). The only real complaint I have is that TourRadar turned out to be more of a facilitator than a tour agency with its own guides. I was confused when we got to Israel and found that neither TourRadar nor Click Tours (which answered my online questions) was the agency actually leading the tours. Not knowing that we would be connecting with Consolidated Tour Operators (CTO) led to some initial confusion in the Tel Aviv airport. Expecting to be linked up with Click Tours and knowing nothing about CTO, we missed connecting with the airport facilitator in Tel Aviv for nearly an hour while each of tried to find the other. If I had been told to look for a CTO representative, our stressful introduction to the tour would have gone much more smoothly. In Israel and Jordan, CTO handled our tour. In Egypt, the agency was Sylvia. I had expected to be part of a group that held together for the entire 17 days, but that wasn't the case. Groups formed and disbanded based on what individuals planned to visit. In Israel there were 11 of us, and we bonded quickly. In Jordan I was surprised that our group dwindled to five. And in Egypt there was only my wife and me. That left us vulnerable in Egypt to the care of our guide, who, because there was just the two of us, managed to fleece us of $150. I would never have signed up with TourRadar if I had understood that my wife and I would be left alone at one point without the safety of a group and unprepared to deal with a guide we didn't fully trust.
The tour part was fantastic and would recommend it for sure. Please drop the Sea Net from your list of Hotels. The rooms are ok but small. The real problem is with service and the meals. Not even a 1 star for breakfast. Bread out but no butter. No coffee just water and really watered down juice.
What a great trip every thing went brilliant, thank you

"Come, let us rejoice in the God of our salvation. For He is gentle and lowly of heart, and you will find great peace and joy for your soul".

Day 1: Departure

Our life-changing journey begins this evening as we board our overnight flight to Jordan.

Day 2: Arrival Jordan

israel tour from jordan

We arrive in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and transfer to our lodging for the evening in Amman.

Day 3: Jerash, Petra

This morning we travel to Jerash, one of the best preserved and most complete provincial Roman cities. Jerash, Gerasa of Roman Times, was one of the cities of the Decapolis, a confederation of 10 Graeco-Roman cities dating from the 1st century BC situated in Jordan, Syria and Israel. Known as the Pompeii of the East for its extraordinary state of preservation, the ruins indicate human occupations at this location for more than 2,500 years. From here, we continue on to our lodging for the evening in Petra.

Day 4: Petra

This morning we visit the amazing mountain fortress of Petra, known to be inhabited by the Edomites - the descendants of Esau. Begin the tour with a walk through the "Siq," an immense crack in the Nabatean sandstone, to the city of Petra carved out of the rose red rock. The Treasury, El Khazneh, is one of the most elegant remains of antiquity. Beyond El Khazneh we are surrounded on both sides by hundreds of Petra's carved and built structures. Departing Petra, we travel northward on the King's Highway where to the west we view the hills bordering the Dead Sea. This is the area of the hilltop palace/fortress of Machaerus, where John the Baptist was beheaded. We overnight in Amman this evening.

Day 5: Mt Nebo, Madaba, Tel Aviv

israel tour from jordan

Our morning tour begins in the town of Madaba, the biblical Medeba, 30 kilometers south of Amman. Madaba is best known for its Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics and at the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George we view the earliest surviving mosaic map of the Holy land. Mt. Nebo, believed to be the site of the tomb of Moses, commands a spectacular view across the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea. Study the panorama as we read the scripture of God showing Moses the "Promised Land" before He brought him home to heaven. As we travel west toward the Allenby Bridge, we view to the north the Plains of Moab, the area where the tribes of Israel camped before crossing the Jordan and picture the place where Jesus was baptized. Crossing the Jordan River into Israel, we drive to Tel Aviv area with the remainder of the afternoon free. You may wish to take a devotional time with the sunset over the “Great Sea,” a time of prayer and thanks for the special blessings ahead, a prayer for the people of this land, and then enjoy a good night’s rest.

Day 6: Caesarea, Megiddo, & Nazareth

israel tour from jordan

After breakfast, we travel by private motor coach along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea to Caesarea, where Gentiles first heard the Good News from Peter and were baptized. We’ll see the Roman Amphitheatre, hippodrome, a film on history and the remains of this famous port city, an aqueduct, and then journey through the Mt. Carmel range, where Elijah challenged King Ahab and the prophets of Baal. Next we travel through the Jezreel Valley to Megiddo, the Armageddon battlefield, where archaeologists have unearthed 20 levels of civilization. We drive through the area of Cana and Nazareth, the boyhood home of Jesus, where we visit the Nazareth Village, a wonderful recreation of Biblical times with costumed guides. We will have dinner and overnight lodging for the next three nights along the Sea of Galilee.

Day 7: Dan, Caesarea Philippi, Jesus Boat, Sea of Galilee Boat Ride, Magdala

israel tour from jordan

Following breakfast, our morning travels take us to two valuable northern sites. Dan is where the children of Israel fell to the depths of alternative sacrifice and Caesarea Philippi, the site of Peter’s confession and pagan worship. We pass the possible site of the multiplication of loaves and fishes in Bethsaida and the Mount of the Beatitudes. Returning to Galilee for a St. Peter’s fish lunch (other selections available), we then visit the ancient fisherman boat followed by a relaxing cruise on the Sea of Galilee. A brief scripture reading and devotional on board brings to life the experiences of Jesus and the fishermen disciples. We conclude our day with a visit to Magdala, hometown of Mary Magdalene. The recent excavation of the first century synagogue and well-preserved village makes Magdala one of the most interesting Biblical sites in Israel.

Day 8: Capernaum, Corazin, Mt. Arbel, Jordan River Baptism Site

israel tour from jordan

Today we visit the Biblical towns of Capernaum and Corazin. Capernaum is located along the Sea of Galilee and was the hometown of Peter. It is likely where Jesus and the disciples lived during much of His ministry while in Galilee. Next, we visit Corazin which offers another example of a Jewish synagogue and a replica of the “Seat of Moses” which was carved out of the local basalt block and from which the scribes and Pharisees would have read the Torah. We enjoy a bird’s eye view of the Galilee region atop Mt. Arbel. Mt. Arbel could likely be the location that Jesus would get away from the crowds to take time in prayer with His heavenly Father. Here our guide will point out the various towns listed in scripture during the time of Jesus. We conclude our day with an opportunity to be baptized at the Jordan River Baptismal Site.

Day 9: Beit Shean, Bethany Beyond Jordan, Abraham's Tent, Mt. of Olives & Garden of Gethsemane

israel tour from jordan

We travel southward this morning to Beit-Shean/Scythopolis, the most magnificent archeological site in Israel, located at the strategic juncture of the Jezreel and Jordan valleys. Like Jericho, it has been almost continuously occupied throughout history. After defeating Saul and his sons on Mt. Gilboa, the Philistines hanged their bodies on the walls of Beit-Shean. During the time of Jesus, Scythopolis was one of the chief cities of the Decapolis - a league of ten cities sharing Greek culture and government. Following the fertile Jordan Valley southward, your guide will point out the agricultural restoration of the “Land of Milk and Honey” and Israel’s intricate irrigation development. We pass ancient Jericho and view from a distance this city famed as the oldest in the world. To the east of Jericho along the Jordan River Valley (Queser El Yehud) is the Israeli side of Bethany Beyond the Jordan. In this area Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist; Elijah and Elisha crossed the Jordan; and the children of Israel, led by Joshua, entered the Promised Land. This afternoon we will take part in the Genesis Land/Dinner in Abraham's Tent, where we enjoy a trip back in time to relive life in the time of the Patriarchs, complete with costume, dramatic presentation, camel ride and authentic food. Arriving in Jerusalem we’ll enjoy a beautiful view of the Old City atop the Mt. of Olives and then the Garden of Gethsemane. How many have wished to be whisked back in time to get a glimpse of our Lord or hear His voice if only for a moment? To walk between the ancient olive trees, read the scriptures of Jesus' prayer and take time for personal reflection is important here. We will have dinner and overnight lodging for the next three nights in Jerusalem.

Day 10: Masada, Ein Gedi, Dead Sea Scrolls, Dead Sea Swim

israel tour from jordan

Our day begins with a cable car ride to the mountain top fortress of Masada. Here our guide will treat us to the history of the famous zealot stand. Afterwards we proceed to Ein Gedi, "Spring of the Goat," an oasis on the western shore of the Dead Sea. Because of its warm climate and abundant supply of water, the site developed a reputation for its fragrant plants and date palm groves. This is where King David hid from Saul and where God defeated the enemies of the Israelites by praise and worship led by King Jehoshaphat. Next, we visit the Qumran Caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. This afternoon we have an opportunity to enjoy a relaxing float in the Dead Sea.

Day 11: Jesus’ Steps, Western Walls, Southern Steps, Way of Suffering, Garden Tomb

israel tour from jordan

Today we walk where Jesus walked, beginning the day with a visit to the Wailing Wall and then the fascinating Rabbinical Tunnels leading us through the Second Temple era. The tunnel and exhibit give a clear understanding of the amazing construction of the Temple Mount, giant stones, water supply and Roman street where our Lord was led to judgment. Before exiting the tunnel, we see the immense cornerstone rejected by the builders. Next, we visit the Southern Wall Excavations. This southern side of The Temple was the main entrance for the common folk, whereas the Priests and Levites had their own entrance from the higher eastern side. Parts of the giant stairs, which led to the Temple Mount from the courtyard have been unearthed along with the purification pools. From here Jesus entered the Temple Mount and drove out the vendors and money exchangers who were exploiting the people. It is also likely that this is the place where Peter stood and preached and where thousands were saved and baptized on the Day of Pentecost. This afternoon we move on to the Judgment Hall of Pilate, hear of those who conspired against Him and are reminded of His brutal beating and humiliation. From here we will also be able to see the Pool of Bethesda, Stephen's Gate, and St. Anne’s Church. While walking along the Via Dolorosa, we are reminded of His way of suffering along with a visit to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Our guide will explain the differing opinions on the route where Christ was led. (The actual place of crucifixion and burial is a very interesting study!) The climax of the day is the area of Golgotha (place of the skull) and the Garden Tomb, where we celebrate the resurrection with communion and a time of praise.

Day 12: Home

A very early morning departure for the Tel Aviv Airport for our flight homeward will allow for arrival home by early afternoon.

Important Note: Although the itinerary above obviously emphasizes the spiritual aspect of this marvelous country, our guides are also experts in and passionate about the miracle of the return of the Jews and the restoration of the state of Israel. This fact, along with many modern day topics (military, politics, education, and other cultural aspects), will be woven into the commentary in order to give you well rounded information.

Israel Jordan Tours

  • ITINERARIES

Welcome to Israel & Jordan

In these neighboring Middle Eastern nations where the cornerstones of three of the world's major faiths converge, you'll immerse in thousands of years of history and culture at the traditional center of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. In Jerusalem, discover the Western Wall, the Dome of the Rock, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and much more. Explore Tel Aviv, Haifa, and the fortress of Masada. In Jordan, attend a traditional Bedouin feast (complete with sword dance) in the desert, explore the ancient "lost" red-rock city of Petra, and discover the secrets of the Dead Sea.

Jerusalem's tower of david, the tower of david in the heart of old jerusalem.

What is today called the Tower of David (a.k.a. the Jerusalem Citadel) at the Old City walls stands on the site of fortifications that date back to the time of King Herod, destroyed and rebuilt numerous times over the centuries. First called the "Tower of David" (mistakenly) by the Byzantines, the structure we see today was mostly built by Muslim sultans between the 14th and 16th centuries; the 17th-century minaret is what many now refer to as the Tower itself.

Ancient Petra

The ancient nabataean city of petra in jordan.

The ancient pink city of Petra in modern-day Jordan was carved out of rose-colored sandstone cliffs by its Nabataean builders perhaps as far back as the 4th century BCE, and abandoned sometime during the early Islamic era. Much of it remained hidden in the mountains and desert sands for thousands of years before its "discovery" by western explorers in the early 19th century. Today, its stunning temples, tombs and other key features like Al Khazneh (The Treasury) are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Jordan's most popular historic attraction, which you'll explore on foot and by horse cart.

Dome of the Rock

A sacred place in old jerusalem – the dome of the rock.

Sheltering one of the holiest spots on Earth for three of the world's great religions, the Dome of the Rock is a 7th-century Islamic shrine built on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem's Old City. Its golden dome shelters the rock from which Muslims believe the Prophet Mohammed ascended to Heaven in his Night Journey. For Jews, it covers the holiest spot on Earth, the Foundation Stone of Solomon's inner temple, which contained the Ark of the Covenant; also considered by many as the site of God's creation of the world and of Abraham's attempted sacrifice of his son, it is of great importance to Jews and Christians as well.

India, Jordan join chorus of countries warning against travel to Lebanon

A photo taken during a tour organized by the Lebanese Ministry of Public Works and Transport shows staff loading cargo onto a plane at Beirut's international airport on June 24, 2024.

BEIRUT — India and Jordan were among the countries that issued travel warnings for Lebanon on Friday, joining a growing list of concerned states as confrontations between the Israeli army and Hezbollah threaten to expand into a full-blown war.

Jordan’s Foreign Ministry in a Friday statement called on Jordanians to “avoid travel to the sisterly Lebanese republic at the present time,” citing unspecified “developments” in the region and the "safety” of citizens abroad. The ministry reiterated that it issued a travel advisory for Lebanon back in late October, shortly after the start of the Gaza war.

India’s embassy in Beirut said on Friday that its citizens should “exercise caution” in the country, but stopped short of calling on them to avoid travel. “In view of the current situation in Lebanon, all Indian nationals in Lebanon are advised to exercise caution and remain in contact with Embassy of India in Beirut,” the embassy noted.

The Irish Department of Foreign Affairs said that citizens should avoid travel to Lebanon and that those currently in the country should leave while commercial options are available, citing “intensifying clashes along the southern border in recent weeks” in a statement that was updated on Friday.

Lebanese media reported on Thursday that Russia told its citizens to avoid traveling to Lebanon. The Russian ambassador in Beirut, Alexander Rudakov, told the local news outlet Elnashra on Thursday that the embassy did not issue a statement prohibiting travel. Rather, he said he recommended against visiting because of events in the south, according to Elnashra.

Germany’s Foreign Office updated its travel advisory to Lebanon on Wednesday, calling on German nationals to “urgently” leave the country. The update came one day after German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock visited Beirut.

“Tensions in the border areas with Israel are heightened and could escalate further at any time,” the office said, warning of potential attacks against foreigners and tourist facilities, including hotels.

In a similar move, the Netherlands issued a stern warning on Wednesday for its citizens to leave Lebanon while commercial flights are still available due to the increasing threats between Hezbollah and Israel.

The Dutch Foreign Ministry said the current travel warning to the small Mediterranean country is “red,” urging its citizens not to travel there whatever their situation.

“It is unsafe in Lebanon, and the situation remains very unpredictable,” the ministry warned.

Earlier on Tuesday, Canada called on its citizens in Lebanon to leave “while they can.”

In a statement, Foreign Minister Melanie Joly called on Canadians to leave while commercial flights remain operational.

“The security situation in Lebanon is becoming increasingly volatile and unpredictable due to sustained and escalating violence between Hezbollah and Israel and could deteriorate further without warning,” she warned. “It is not the time to travel to Lebanon.”

“Canada is not currently offering assisted departures or evacuations for Canadians in Lebanon, and these are not guaranteed,” Joly added.

Last week, Israel's Channel 12 reported that Canada was preparing to evacuate 45,000 Canadians from Lebanon. The channel quoted Joly as telling her Israeli counterpart, Israel Katz, that her country is planning “the largest evacuation we have ever undertaken” if a war in Lebanon breaks out.

Australia joined Canada on Tuesday and recommended against travel to Lebanon “due to the volatile security situation. The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade also called on Australians in Beirut to leave on currently available flights before the situation further deteriorates.

Similarly, Switzerland said Tuesday that travel to Lebanon has now become “inadvisable.” The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) warned on its website of the growing risk of escalation in the country.

“A significant deterioration of the security situation in Lebanon can occur at any time,” it added.

The FDFA also advised its nationals in Lebanon who wish to leave now to use available commercial options, saying those who wish to remain must be aware that “the Swiss Embassy in Beirut has only limited capacity to provide services or emergency assistance” in case the security situation deteriorates.

Last Friday, Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry also asked its citizens in Beirut to leave “as soon as possible” in light of the current situation.

Before Kuwait, Sweden’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs last Thursday issued its “most stringent advisory” against all travel to Lebanon, asking its nationals in the country to leave while viable options remain.

The Iran-backed Hezbollah movement and Israel have been engaged in daily cross-border fire since the war in the Gaza Strip erupted last October. The skirmishes, which had been limited to tit-for-tat attacks, have spread in recent weeks, with the two parties striking deeper into the other's territory.

The increasing attacks coincide with Israeli warnings to wage an all-out war on Lebanon to eliminate the threat posed by Hezbollah. The group has also escalated its rhetoric, with its leader, Hassan Nasrallah, threatening last week that “no place” in Israel will be safe in the event of war.

In a televised speech last Wednesday, Nasrallah said leaders of armed groups from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen and other countries had offered to send thousands of fighters to back Hezbollah in its fight with Israel. Nasrallah claimed to have declined the offer, saying his organization has more than 100,000 fighters.

The United Nations warned Wednesday that a war in Lebanon would be “potentially apocalyptic.”

A war involving Lebanon “will draw in Syria . . . it will draw in others,” Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths told reporters in Geneva.

Watchdog group: Israel approves largest West Bank land seizure in 3 decades

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel has approved the largest seizure of land in the occupied West Bank in over three decades, an anti-settlement watchdog group said Wednesday, a move that could further worsen already soaring tensions linked to the ongoing war in Gaza.

Peace Now said authorities recently approved the appropriation of 12.7 square kilometers (nearly 5 square miles) of land in the Jordan Valley. The group’s data indicate it was the largest single appropriation approved since the 1993 Oslo accords at the start of the peace process.

Violence has surged in the West Bank since Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack ignited the war in Gaza, with Israel carrying out near-daily military raids that often spark deadly gunbattles with Palestinian militants. Palestinians have also carried out a string of attacks on Israelis.

READ MORE: Ultra-Orthodox men clash with Israeli police in protest against court order to enlist in military

The land seizure, which was approved late last month but only publicized on Wednesday, comes after the seizure of 8 square kilometers (roughly 3 square miles) of land in the West Bank in March and 2.6 square kilometers (1 square mile) in February.

That makes 2024 by far the peak year for Israeli land seizure in the West Bank, Peace Now said.

The parcels are contiguous and located northeast of the West Bank city of Ramallah, where the Western-backed Palestinian Authority is headquartered. By declaring them state lands, the Israeli government has opened them up to being leased to Israelis and prohibited private Palestinian ownership.

The Palestinians view the expansion of settlements in the occupied West Bank as the main barrier to any lasting peace agreement and most of the international community considers them illegal or illegitimate.

READ MORE: Strike on Khan Younis kills 9 people hours after Israel ordered mass evacuation

Israel captured the West Bank, the Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem in the 1967 Mideast war, territories the Palestinians want for a future state. Israel’s current government considers the West Bank to be the historical and religious heartland of the Jewish people and is opposed to Palestinian statehood.

Israel has built well over 100 settlements across the West Bank, some of which resemble fully developed suburbs or small towns. They are home to over 500,000 Jewish settlers who have Israeli citizenship. The 3 million Palestinians in the West Bank live under seemingly open-ended Israeli military rule.

The Palestinian Authority administers parts of the Israeli-occupied West Bank but is barred from operating in 60% of the territory, where the settlements are located.

Prominent human rights organizations have pointed to Israel’s rule over the West Bank in accusing it of the international crime of apartheid, allegations Israel rejects as an attack on its legitimacy.

Israel’s far-right finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, has turbocharged land seizure and settlement construction since being granted expanded powers over Israel’s administration of the occupied territory under the current governing coalition, the most religious and nationalist in Israel’s history.

READ MORE: Israeli airstrike in the West Bank kills a Palestinian militant, wounds 5 other people

Smotrich laid out his plans for the West Bank at a conference for his ultranationalist Religious Zionism Party last month, a recording of which was obtained by Peace Now. He said he intended to appropriate at least 15 square kilometers (nearly 6 square miles) of land in the West Bank this year.

He also promised to expand the establishment of farming outposts, which hard-line settlers have used to extend their control of rural areas, and to crack down on Palestinian construction.

The declaration published Wednesday was signed in June by Hillel Roth, a deputy Smotrich appointed earlier this year to boost settlement expansion and state land declarations in the West Bank, according to a copy of the order obtained by The Associated Press.

Hamas cited the expansion of West Bank settlements as one of its justifications for the Oct. 7 attack into southern Israel, in which Palestinian militants killed some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and took around 250 hostage. Israel has launched a massive offensive in response that has killed over 37,900 Palestinians, according to local health officials, who do not say how many were fighters.

The war has caused massive devastation across Gaza and displaced most of its 2.3 million people, often multiple times. Israeli restrictions, the ongoing fighting and the breakdown of law and order have curtailed humanitarian aid efforts, causing widespread hunger and sparking fears of famine.

Middle East Crisis Iran Warns of ‘Obliterating War’ if Israel Launches an Offensive in Lebanon

  • Share full article

Smoke rising above an area of multistory buildings.

Iran threatens Israel as diplomats try to keep tensions with Hezbollah from escalating into a full-blown war.

Iran has threatened an “obliterating war” if Israel launches a full-scale attack in Lebanon, as diplomats work to prevent tensions between Israel and the Lebanese militia Hezbollah, which is backed by Tehran, from escalating into an all-out conflict.

In a post on X late Friday, Iran’s mission to the United Nations said that “all options,” including the involvement of Iran-backed armed groups across the Middle East , “are on the table.” Chief among those groups is Hezbollah, a powerful militia that dominates southern Lebanon.

At the same time, Iran dismissed warnings from Israeli officials that Israel could invade Lebanon as “psychological warfare.”

Enemies for decades, Israel and Hezbollah have frequently exchanged fire along Israel’s northern border. Since the war in Gaza began last October, Hezbollah and the Israeli military have intensified cross-border strikes. Israeli officials have warned for months that Israel might invade Lebanon if Hezbollah did not pull its forces back from the border area. Hezbollah has also threatened to launch an incursion into Israel.

Israel’s defense minister, Yoav Gallant, met with Biden administration officials in Washington this past week, in large measure to discuss the friction along the Lebanon border.

U.S. officials are keen to avoid an escalation in which Iran and Israel again directly exchange blows , following back-and-forth aerial attacks in April. Political analysts say that Iran appears to want to avoid a direct confrontation as well.

During his visit to Washington, Mr. Gallant told U.S. officials that Israel also did not want a full-scale war with Hezbollah, but that it was prepared to hit the group hard if provoked.

On Thursday, the State Department issued an advisory again warning Americans not to travel to Lebanon, emphasizing that Lebanon’s government “cannot guarantee the protection of U.S. citizens against sudden outbreaks of violence and armed conflict.”

Analysts and officials have said that a halt to the fighting in Gaza would be the surest way to defuse the tensions between Israel and Hezbollah.

Key Developments

An Israeli raid in Gaza City enters a third day, and other news.

An Israeli ground operation in eastern Gaza City was in its third day , with the military saying in a statement on Saturday that its forces had killed “dozens of terrorists” in an area known as Shajaiye. Gaza’s health ministry said that some 40 people had been killed in the past 24 hours, but it did not distinguish between combatant and civilian deaths. Neither claim could be confirmed. The raid has prompted more displacement, with at least 60,000 people fleeing from areas east and northeast of Gaza City as of Friday, according to the U.N. office of humanitarian affairs . The latest wave of Israeli strikes in Shajaiye began on Thursday, when people described a frantic effort to get out as explosions sounded around them. The Israeli military has said the operation there is targeting Hamas fighters and infrastructure.

Osama Hamdan, a senior member of Hamas, told reporters at a news conference in Beirut on Saturday night that negotiations for a cease-fire and hostage release deal in Gaza were stalled for now. Mr. Hamdan said Hamas’s demands remained the same, including a complete end to the war and a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza. Israel has said it would accept a permanent cease-fire only after the destruction of Hamas’s military and governing power in Gaza and the return of the remaining 120 living and dead hostages. Hopes for a truce rose after President Biden publicized a proposal approved by Israel at the end of May. Hamas responded by demanding amendments that Israel rejected as unacceptable. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel appeared to walk back support for the deal earlier this week in a televised interview, before later re-endorsing it after criticism at home and abroad.

The Israeli and Serbian governments condemned what they both described as a terror attack at the Israeli Embassy in Belgrade on Saturday. A man used a crossbow to shoot a police officer guarding the embassy, and the wounded officer then killed the attacker, the Serbian government said . The officer was being treated at a hospital, and officials were working to confirm the attacker’s identity. Israel’s foreign minister, Israel Katz, posted on social media a statement thanking the Serbian government for the quick response.

Thousands of anti-government protesters gathered on Saturday outside the Israeli Defense Ministry in Tel Aviv, renewing calls for the resignation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and a cease-fire in Gaza that would allow the return of hostages taken during the Hamas-led attack on Oct. 7.

One protester held up a sign that called Mr. Netanyahu “the enemy of Israel,” while others covered themselves in fake blood and bandages and lay in the street.

Relatives and family members of hostages have held weekly street demonstrations since October to pressure the government to bring their loved ones home. Some hostages were released as part of a temporary cease-fire in November and others have been rescued. But more than 100 remain in Gaza. It is unclear how many are still alive.

Noa Argamani, a hostage who was rescued on June 8, called for the release of the remaining captives in a video by the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, which represents families of hostages held captive in Gaza.

“We must do everything possible to bring them back home,” Ms. Argamani said in the video. She was kidnapped and taken to Gaza along with her partner, Avinatan Or, on Oct. 7. He is still being held .

Efrat Yahalomi, the sister of Ohad Yahalomi, a French-Israeli hostage who was taken from the Kibbutz Nir Oz, said it was “incredibly painful” to know that Israeli hostages were languishing in captivity.

“Almost nine months have passed, and I’m still standing here with a heavy heart, while you, Ohad, are still not here,” she said in a statement released by the forum.

What does it mean when Israel authorizes an illegal West Bank settlement?

Israeli officials have tentatively agreed to legalize five Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank, a move that could further inflame tensions between Israelis and Palestinians and draw the ire of the international community, but one that advances the expansionist agenda of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing government.

Israel’s far-right finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, has agreed to release funds he has been withholding from the financially strapped Palestinian Authority, which administers some West Bank areas under Israeli military rule, in exchange for strengthening Israeli settlements in the territory, his office said on Thursday.

The tentative agreement would ease some of the financial pressure on the Palestinian Authority but would officially tighten Israel’s hold on the West Bank, further complicating any future effort to reach an agreement on a two-state solution for Palestinians and Israelis.

Much of the international community views Israeli settlements in the West Bank as illegal, and many of the outposts are illegal under Israeli law, too, but are tolerated by the government. Many whose creation violated Israeli law were later legitimized by the Israeli government, granting them formal access to services like running water, electricity, building permits and funding.

Still, outposts have grown with the tacit agreement of the government for decades. Mr. Netanyahu last year decided to ease the process for approving new settlement construction, transferring authority from the defense minister, Yoav Gallant, to Mr. Smotrich, who believes Israel should annex the West Bank and rule it permanently .

What outposts are being approved by Israel?

The details and timeline for legalizing the five settlements were not immediately clear. Among the settlements that Mr. Smotrich said would be legalized:

Evyatar: A controversial outpost on Jabal Subeih, a hill near Nablus in the northern West Bank, it is named for Evyatar Borovski, a settler killed by a Palestinian in 2013. In 2021, after the outpost rapidly expanded and incited Palestinian protests , settlers were ordered to evacuate. But they soon returned with the government’s tacit approval .

Givat Assaf: Located in the central West Bank and settled by religious nationalists in 2002 , it was named after Assaf Hershkovitz, a settler killed by a Palestinian. The Israeli advocacy group Peace Now sued for demolition of homes there in 2007, arguing that they were established on private Palestinian property. The government in 2013 said it was considering legalizing the settlement, drawing the ire of American officials . In 2014, four homes shown to have been built on private Palestinian land were demolished under court order .

Sde Ephraim: Squatters established this outpost in 2018 on a hilltop near the Palestinian village of Ras Karkar, northwest of Ramallah. Settlers and villagers have clashed repeatedly here. This month, the Israeli military said that attackers had set fire to a trailer on the farm outpost.

Adorayim: This outpost comprises about two dozen religious-nationalist families in the area of Hebron and was established in 2017 .

Heletz: A newly established farming area, it is located amid a cluster of settlements south of Jerusalem and Bethlehem called Gush Etzion.

Are the settlements legal?

Most of the world considers settlements to be illegal under international law. The United Nations General Assembly, the United Nations Security Council and the International Court of Justice have all said that Israeli settlements on the West Bank violate the Fourth Geneva Convention, which prohibits an occupying power from moving its people into occupied territory. The statute that established the International Criminal Court in 1998 classifies such transfers as war crimes.

The United Nations in 1947 approved a partition creating a Jewish state and a Palestinian one that would include the West Bank, and put Jerusalem under international control. But after the first Arab-Israeli war, Jordan took control of the West Bank, and Jerusalem became divided between Israel and Jordan.

In the 1967 war, Israel annexed East Jerusalem and occupied the West Bank, which it says is disputed territory whose fate should be determined in negotiations. Soon after, it began to permit settlements there.

Palestinians have long argued that the settlements are a creeping annexation enforced by armed settlers and the Israeli military, carving territory that should become a Palestinian state into an unworkable patchwork, and steadily pushing Arabs out of their homes and farms.

Under Israeli law, legal settlements must be built on land held by the state, must have government building permits and must be established by a government resolution.

Under the Oslo accords, signed by Israel and the Palestinians in the 1990s, both sides agreed that the status of Israeli settlements would be resolved by negotiation, a prospect that grows dimmer with each new outpost.

The U.N. General Assembly last year asked the International Court of Justice to give an opinion on the legal consequences “from the ongoing violation by Israel of the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, from its prolonged occupation, settlement and annexation of the Palestinian territory.”

How many settlements are there?

Some settlement construction has continued under every Israeli government for decades. As of last year, more than 130 settlements had been built with Israeli government permission since 1967.

More than 100 unauthorized settlement outposts have been erected since the 1990s, and the Israeli authorities are working on legalizing many of them retroactively.

More than 500,000 Israeli settlers now live in the West Bank — not counting more than 200,000 in East Jerusalem — alongside more than 2.7 million Palestinians. Some of the settlements are home to religious Zionists who believe that the area is their biblical birthright. Many secular and ultra-Orthodox Jews also moved there, largely for cheaper housing.

This year, the Israeli government had designated a record amount of land, about 6,000 acres , as eligible for settlement by March, another signal of Mr. Smotrich’s intent to deepen the Israeli hold on the West Bank.

In March, the U.N. human rights chief, Volker Türk, condemned the rapid expansion of settlements after a U.N. report showed a “dramatic increase in the intensity, severity and regularity of Israeli settler and state violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, particularly since 7 October, 2023, which is accelerating Palestinians’ displacement from their land.”

Tor Wennesland, the U.N.’s special coordinator for the Middle East peace process, on Tuesday said that signs of expedited settlement and legalization of outposts undermine prospects for a two-state solution .

That appears to be the goal for Mr. Smotrich, who adamantly opposes Palestinian statehood. He has said that he will legalize additional outposts in response to any nation that announces recognition of a Palestinian state.

In the last two months, Spain, Ireland, Norway, Slovenia and Armenia have formally recognized an independent Palestinian state . In a social media post on Thursday, Mr. Smotrich indicated that the latest settlement legalization was a response to those decisions .

“We’ll continue developing the settlements to maintain Israel’s security and to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state that would endanger our existence,” he said.

Maj. Gen. Yehuda Fox, the head of Israel’s Central Command, which is responsible for the West Bank, has said that since Mr. Smotrich took office the effort to clamp down on illegal settlement construction has dwindled “ to the point where it has disappeared .”

Then and now: See which clubs from Jordan Spieth’s 2015 John Deere Classic win are still in his bag

Change Text Size

GolfWRX.com

The last time Jordan Spieth teed it up in the John Deere Classic was in 2015, when he won the event for the second time, adding to his 2013 title.

Since then, when it comes to his equipment, not much has really changed. He’s still just as methodical when it comes to making changes in his bag, which means he doesn’t always play the absolute newest clubs possible. Rather, he plays what works for him and what he’s comfortable with.

Look no further than his putter.

This year at the 2024 John Deere Classic, Spieth is still using the same exact Scotty Cameron 009 prototype that he used to win the 2015 John Deere Classic … and the 2013 John Deere Classic, too.

Throughout the rest of his bag, Spieth has made upgrades along the way, but nothing has changed drastically as far as his setup goes. He’s still using a “2” model Titleist driver, he still uses roughly the same lofts, he still switches between a driving iron and a hybrid depending on course setup and conditions, and he still uses essentially the same grinds on his wedges.

When it comes to his equipment, Spieth is the epitome of consistency.

In his press conference Wednesday, Spieth reflected about the equipment world in general and what has changed since 2015.

“Mainly just the driver [has changed], I think; driver and 3-wood," Spieth said. "But I would say some guys are probably hitting some 3-woods from around that time, anyway, still. I think the driver has come a long way. I remember mishits dropping ball speeds by 3-4 mph. If I hit one off the heel, it's as fast as if I hit it off the center now. Toe balls are only dropping a couple miles an hour. So much more forgiving. They launch and spin better. Our drivers are close to maxed out. I think there was some room back then now that we see where they are now. That was probably the biggest change. I don't think the ball – everything has probably changed a little bit to be a little bit more forgiving and maybe just fine tuning things, but that would be the biggest thing I think.”

One area that Spieth has changed with the times, though, is on the driving range, specifically in shaft testing.

“I use launch monitor devices when I practice way more now,” Spieth said. “As far as equipment testing, no. I would say I've probably, because of the change in drivers, I've gone through – where I may have played the same shaft in my driver from 2011 to 2016, I've probably gone through five different ones since then just in speed uptick with the area dynamic improvement of driver heads and increased speed just from me. So I've had to test a lot more drivers, but I'm pretty much – most everything else is right off the shelf for me.”

As mentioned previously, Spieth finds what he likes – and he doesn’t switch into something different until it’s confirmed to be better.

Below, we highlight Spieth’s winning bag from the 2015 John Deere Classic and his current 2024 John Deere Classic setup.
