Kind reviews from our friends

There are other ways to get into Thorsmork – but if you want to avoid long hikes, waiting for a bus or the risks of driving your own vehicle across some decent-sized rivers, super jeep is the only option. Logi was wonderful – a total professional and great company on an all-day tour. He was easygoing, extremely knowledgeable and loves the country and what he does. He made sure we saw the places we wanted to see in Thorsmork (along with many we did not know about) while always remaining concerned with our safety and comfort. We hiked to a glacier face, into a cave, Stakkholtsgjá canyon, and a waterfall over the course of the tour. If I return to Iceland, I would definitely book another tour with Logi and Into The Wild.

We (my husband and two boys–15 and 8) booked a day trip to Thorsmork with Logi. We met him in the parking lot of Selandjfoss and just hopped into his super jeep and let him take us away. We made several stops each time Logi said OK let\’s take a little hike…he explained what we where seeing, he never rushed us through any of the stops. The scenery was magnificent. Just when we thought we where heading back to the parking lot Logi pulled over once again, we all hopped out but, this time he handed us helmets! We proceeded to walk behind a wall of rocks and was faced with a waterfall, but that\’s not all…there was another hidden waterfall that you had to cross the brook and scale the side of the rocks to get to the …

What an amazing, unforgettable experience! We had 3 nights in Reykjavik and were hoping to see the Northern Lights, there are soooo many tours and trips available over there and it was difficult deciding whether to go on a bus tour or a jeep….we eventually decided on jeep as there were 5 of us and we preferred a more personal tour. There are a few jeep tour operators so I phoned them all, not only were Into The Wild the cheapest but they were also very friendly and went out of their way to send information and were extremely helpful. After phoning back at 5…just to make sure the forecast was right to see the lights…Logi picked us up at 9pm to start the tour. We were all made to feel very welcome and Logi chatted …

Don’t hesitate to be in touch with any requests or questions!

Þórsmörk day tour, description.

“Þórsmörk has a spot in every Icelander’s heart. There’s just nothing like it…”

Þórsmörk is an incredibly beautiful nature reserve, situated in the heart of South Iceland nestled among the glaciers Eyjafjallajökull, Mýrdalsjökull, and Tindfjallajökull.

This tour is one of our most popular ones, with so many spectacular hiking options and adventurous rides over various unbridged glacial rivers. This is the perfect tour to explore the wonders of Þórsmörk while experiencing an adventurous 4×4 Super Jeep drive!

On our hike, we take in the astonishing view over Þórsmörk, Mýrdalsjökull glacier, and the highlands. We will also hike up to Gígjökull glacier where we observe the effects of the 2010 Eyjafjallajökull eruption and breathe in the purifying glacial air.

Þórsmörk is a spectacular place to visit, it has its own kind of feel to it. It is Icelandic nature to the core.

We will take a few stops to hike. The path is uneven at times and the route takes you uphill and downhill.

Every tour is catered to each person’s ability and the guide will inform our guests about every stop that will be made. If you don’t feel like hiking you don’t have to.

**Light lunch is included**

Difficulty Ratings

Easy, moderate, challenging … What does this really mean? Below you can read the definitions we use for our ratings. We hope this will help you get an idea of the trip difficulty to make sure you choose a trip that suits you best.

Easy Suitable for most people in fair condition. You have to be able to walk on uneven surfaces and hike for at least 2 – 3 hours at a slow pace, with breaks. Trails are generally of good quality and glaciers travel at a relatively low angle.

Moderate Suitable for those in good condition who are able to walk for about 4 hours at a low or moderate pace. Trails are generally of good quality and glaciers travel at a relatively low angle.

Challenging For someone in good hiking condition and with experience of hiking. Trails are generally in fair conditions but some parts of the tour might be off track. Glacier/snow travel can be on uneven ground with challenging sections. Increased distance. We recommend guests have the ability to cover 12 km a day on rugged trails and snow.

Demanding Only a few of our trips are defined as Demanding. Hence most of our tours are rated Easy, moderate, or challenging.

Demanding tours are for someone in very good hiking and physical condition. Trails are generally in fair conditions but large sections of the tour might be off track. Glacier/snow travel on uneven ground with some challenging sections. Increased distance. We recommend guests have the ability to cover 20 km a day on uneven trails and snow. A significant increase in elevation and some technical difficulty should be expected.

Equipment list

Equipment needed can vary greatly from season to season as well as the length of your tour. The following list can be used as a guideline for our trekking, hiking, and longer Snowmobile tours in Iceland.

Try to pack as lightly as possible and take only essentials. Excess baggage can be a burden to you and to our support crew. Keep in mind that there are limits on how much your duffel bag can weigh because the weight restrictions on international and domestic flights are usually around 20 kg.

Luggage for Multiday tours and longer journeys with assistance vehicle An extra bag clearly marked with your name can be kept at your Reykjavik accommodation. Large duffel bag (60/80 liters) sturdy and water-resistant, not exceeding 15 kg Daypack (30 to 50 liters)

Clothing You will need to bring comfortable and adequate clothing to protect you from the cold and wet weather. Wool, synthetics, and wool/synthetic blends are good. We discourage the use of cotton, as this does not insulate against cold or wet conditions. When camping, tents are provided. You will be responsible for bringing your mattress and sleeping bag.

When layering, the innermost layer should be long underwear. The middle layer can be a synthetic turtleneck or wool shirt, and pants. The outermost layer should be a synthetic jacket, and/or a good quality Gore-Tex wind/rain parka and over-pants.

For quantities for each item listed, use your own judgment, based on the expected weather conditions and overall packing/weight restrictions for your luggage.

  • Regular underwear. Synthetics are easier to wash and dry
  • Synthetic or wool thermal underwear
  • Long-sleeved, synthetic, or wool shirt
  • Short-sleeved synthetic or cotton/synthetic T-shirts
  • Medium-weight synthetic fleece sweater or jacket

Fantastic experience

"We had an amazing experience on this tour. Our driver (Elias) was knowledgeable and had the perfect balance of sharing information but also giving us time to reflect and enjoy the breathtaking landscape of Iceland. Highly recommend this company, tour, and driver!"

Glacier hike with Alberto Marini

"We had a private guided glacier walk for 3 active senior friends with Alberto Marini who is an Italian-born mountain/rock climber. Though cautious by nature, I felt completely comfortable with Alberto who apparently trained many of the other guides we encountered. He was knowledgeable about glaciers and the natural history of Iceland-verified by my geologist husband. Definitely worth doing especially if with Alberto."

Snowmobiling gone wild on a glacier

"We had a private tour with 2 couples to do snowmobiling on a glacier. Magnus was a very skilled ATV driver taking us on an adventurous 1hour drive to get to the glacier to meet snowmobiles. We enjoyed the vantage point even on a cloudy windy day to ride around to see the surrounding volcanoes. Quite a fun 3 hour tour."

Private Tour to Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach

" We took a private tour from Hotel Ranga out to Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach. We rented a car but decided it was too far to drive on our own there and back in one day so we booked a tour with Southcoast.

Our driver, Stefan, was fantastic! It was a 10-hour journey (including a stop for lunch) so it was nice to have a guide that was a great conversationalist and very knowledgeable about Iceland. He answered all of our questions about Iceland and stopped at a few places we never would have found on our own.

We had a gorgeous day and the pictures we got on Diamond Beach were out of this world. Would highly recommend this company and this guide, especially if you're interested in a private tour. "

Jökulsárlón Day Tour

Travel  in Luxury SUV  following the picturesque southern coastline passing the villages of Selfoss, Vik and Kirkjubaejarklaustur as well as Skogafoss, a mighty and much photographed waterfall on the south coast. Continue through the vast desert of Skeidararsandur, an area which can be prone to sand storms. Many of Iceland‘s biggest glacial rivers run into the Atlantic Ocean off the south shore and each year they carry millions of tons of black volcanic sand, constantly altering the shape of the coastline and creating vast black deserts. Just before reaching the lagoon, drive pass Oraefajokull glacier, home to Iceland‘s highest peak, Hvannadalshnjukur, at 2119 m. Jokulsarlon is a stunning glacial lagoon that is constantly changing as the massive glacier tongue retreats. Icebergs of all shapes, sizes and in many hues of blue, turquoise and white, break off from the glacier and float around the lagoon. You will have time to walk the shores of the lagoon to admire the surreal shapes and take time to photograph the lagoon‘s wonderful, mirror-like reflections. For an even closer view, you can go on a cruise aboard an amphibious vessel and sail amongst the oddly-shaped ice formations.  Jokulsarlon & Diamond Beach (The Diamond Beach is a strip of black sand belonging to the greater Breiðamerkursandur glacial plain, located by Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon) is a natural wonder that has to be seen to be believed.

This may be one of the longest day tours from Reykjavik but it is also one of the most highly recommended. Note that the itinerary is subject to weather and road conditions. Warm clothes and sturdy shoes are recommended as the terrain can be rough underfoot. Jökulsárlón day tour highlights:

  • Skaftafell national park
  • Volcanic sandy beach
  • Glacial rivers
  • Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon
  • Diamond Beach
  • Boat ride on the lagoon is optional for additional price
  • Vatnajökull and Öræfajökull glaciers
  • Small villages
  • Comfortable way to travel

This tour lasts 11 to 13 hours. Free pick-up from your hotel in the capital area begins at 8:00

NOTE : we are running all our scheduler tour on minnum 3 person to June 3th 2021

Extras: Boats on the glacier lagoon are available between 15. May to 30. September.

Embark on an unforgettable adventure with our Fjallabak Super Jeep Tour, designed for those seeking to explore Iceland’s remote volcanic wilderness. This tour takes you through the beautiful Fjallabak Nature Reserve, an area that many Icelanders consider to be one of the country’s greatest treasures. With a diverse color palette, spectacular landforms, and a unique ecosystem, Fjallabak promises a mesmerizing experience.

The Fjallabak Super Jeep Tour promises an exciting adventure through Iceland’s stunning highlands. During the tour, we’ll take you to some of the country’s most iconic sites, including Mt. Maelifell . This magnificent mountain is easily recognizable by its almost perfect conical shape covered in bright green moss, situated in the black ash desert of Mælifellssandur . We’ll also visit the beautiful Rauðibotn crater , featuring a small emerald green lake surrounded by red rocks. The stunning Álftavatn lake , known for its birdlife, and Hvanngil valley , Mt. Hattfell and Mt. Laufafell are equally impressive. We’ll also explore Markafljótsgljúfur’s magnificent technicolor glacial river canyon, where waterfalls and stratified lava/ash layer walls abound. Torfahlaup is a beautiful spot at the beginning of the canyon. Other iconic mountains that we’ll encounter include Mt. Hekla , one of Iceland’s most active volcanoes with over 20 eruptions since 874, and Mt. Einhyrningur , resembling a sleeping unicorn with a horn jutting out, situated between Tindfjöll Glacier and Markarfljót river . Additionally, we’ll visit Landmannalaugar , a geothermal oasis with breathtaking sites such as Hnausapollur crater lake , Rauðaskál crater , Dyngjuleið and Dómadalur .

Please note that due to the abundance of sites, it’s not possible to see everything in one day, and routes may vary depending on weather conditions. If you’re interested in visiting Landmannalaugar specifically, we offer a Landmannalaugar Day Tour . Our main priority is to ensure that you have an unforgettable experience and make the most out of your trip.

Landmannalaugar Super Jeep Tour With Pickup from Reykjavik

Landmannalaugar Super Jeep Tour With Pickup from Reykjavik

Discover one of Iceland's natural gems, the Landmannalaugar geothermal area, on this luxurious super jeep tour. See stunning waterfalls and otherworldly crater lakes before taking a dip in a naturally heated pool. This tour shouldn’t be missed by anyone wanting to experience the best of Icelandic nature while traveling in comfort and style.

Landmannalaugar is a vast area of unique beauty, located in the heart of Iceland’s southern highlands. Nestled between the jet-black Laugahraun lava field, Landmannalaugar is made up of windswept rhyolite mountains, a type of volcanic rock that creates a full spectrum of dazzling color on the mountainside.

Your adventure starts in Reykjavík, where you will be picked up in the morning by a super jeep. This large and luxurious vehicle is specially built to go off the beaten track, to areas not accessible by normal buses, so you will get an exclusive and unique experience as you traverse the highlands of Iceland.

Your first stop of the day will be in Þjórsárdalur valley where you will find Hjálparfoss waterfall. Situated in the lava field north of the stratovolcano Hekla, this is a twin cascade where two streams from the river Fossá merge in the basin of the waterfall.

Traveling from the beautiful waterfall, you’ll stop at two scenic lakes before you reach Landmannalaugar. The first lake is Ljótipollur, a crater lake with high banks in an unbelievable shade of red that contrast with the azure water. The second is Frostaðavatn lake, a wide and beautiful lake popular among photographers around the world.

The rhyolite mountains at Landmannalaugar appear in shades of red, pink, green and golden yellow, bestowing an otherworldly aspect upon the whole area. You will get a chance to hike up one of the area’s many trails before taking a dip in the naturally heated geothermal pool to relax after a day of traveling.

Before you head back to the city, you will make a quick stop in Dómadalur valley where you will find the waterfall Þjófafoss. You will be thankful for the super jeep as it is one of the few vehicles that can easily access the route to this gorgeous waterfall. You will also visit the magnificent volcano Hekla, one of Iceland’s most active volcanoes.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to travel the geothermal and volcanic landscapes of Iceland’s highlands. See areas not visited by many on this exclusive super jeep tour. Check availability by choosing a date.

The first stop on the Silver Circle is Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring – a truly incredible sight that is like nothing else that you will ever see. Its thundering waters generate vast plumes of steam – making for a majestic spectacle. Deildartunguhver also supplies a number of towns in the surrounding area with hot water – another example of how Icelanders utilize their unique landscape for the good of the environment.

We’ll drive inland to the Hraunfossar and Barnafossar waterfalls – two stunningly beautiful waterfalls that are the pride of west Iceland.  Hraunfossar is particularly special – comprised of thousands of tiny cascades that combine into a dramatic cacophony of thundering water. These rivulets emerge from the colorful Hallmundarhraun lava field – making for one of the best photo opportunities that you will ever get! We’ll also stop at Barnafossar , whose beautiful foggy blue waters have a supernatural quality about them. They are known as ‘the children’s falls’ and your knowledgeable local guide will tell you all about the tragic story that earnt them this name.

We’ll take a break for a picnic lunch in the rolling Husafell woodlands (lunch not included) and then drive to Langjokull glacier . Langjokull (the long glacier) is Iceland’s second largest and is a renowned icy wonderland that will provide memories that will last you a lifetime.

Langjokull is also the perfect place to really put our super jeeps to the test – travelling along lesser known paths so we can see this vast icy wilderness in all its majesty. Look out of the window to see a world of craggy crevasses, deep moulins and remarkable ice sculptures. If the conditions are right, then we’ll take the mountain pass back to Reykjavik – crossing the famous Kaldidalur (cold valley), which offers the greatest views of Thingvellir National Park in Iceland. The perfect way to end a truly incredible day!
