Extraordinary Experiences At High Point University

Throughout the academic year, High Point University offers a wide variety of opportunities open to both visitors and locals,  ranging from experiences that are open on a daily basis to special events.  Once entering campus, you’ll be instantaneously in awe of the impeccable appearance of the environment.  From the array of fountains to the endless flowers and plants surrounding the university, you’ll find it hard to leave!

The Gardens

The nature on campus is a beauty within itself!  Allow yourself to get lost in the artistry of The Mariana H. Qubein Arboretum and Botanical Gardens – offering 28 gardens with 350 taxa of trees and 2,500 taxa of plants.  Not only are they amazing sights to see, but they also promote experiential learning outside of the classroom.  Outside of the Congdon School of Science you will find your not so everyday garden!  This unique garden is designed to look like a DNA strand, allowing biology to be seen within the formation of a garden, rather than solely in the classroom.  Using what God has provided, first lady, Mariana Qubein strives to create a spectacular landscape all around campus.  In 2006, Qubein founded an Arboretum Committee to put in place gardens all around campus.  Since then, the campus gardens have been in constant growth and have expanded throughout the entire university.  High Point University has been a proud recipient of the Tree Campus USA award for the past decade.  This award is given to college campuses that use nature to promote a livable and healthy environment for all.  With all of the First Lady’s hard work, it’s no wonder High Point University has been recognized with this significant honor!  To enhance your garden experience, sign up for a garden tour to learn more about the plants and how they were chosen.  The tour consists of multiple gardens such as the Topiary Fusion Garden, the Mark and Julie Phillips Sculpture Garden, the Lakeside Gardens, and the Pat Plaxico Climbing Rose Garden.  The gardens sure can’t be missed!

A Walk Through History

Take a walk through history by finding the significant figures from American and World history that are sprinkled throughout campus! Not only do these statues provide another element of education, but also a model of values. From civil rights crusaders and masters of gravity to peace makers and trailblazers, let yourself become overwhelmed with motivation while looking back on how people like Mohandas Gandhi, Amelia Earhart, George Washington and Maya Angelou inspired the world by living extraordinary lives of significance, modeling personal initiative, resilience, leadership and service.   One that stands out for this city is the statue of John Coltrane, a jazz legend, who grew up in High Point.  The late saxophonist is honored each year at the John Coltrane International Jazz and Blues Festival , held at Oak Hollow Festival Park, Labor Day Weekend. People come from all over to celebrate his life with a weekend full of live music, food and fun by the lake! Another statue on campus that stands out is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Every January, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is honored at the university.  King is most well-known for his speech of “I Have a Dream” and for his overall involvement in the civil rights movement.  To honor King, High Point University hosts an annual service, featuring guest speakers to honor the impact King has made. Because King dedicated his life to serving others, the university hosts an “MLK Day of Service”.  At this event, various service projects occur on the university’s campus and at locations throughout the city that have partnered with HPU.  If you happen to be in town during this event, all are welcome to join the college students serving in honor of MLK!

Veteran's Day

For eleven years now, High Point University has hosted a complimentary Veteran’s Day Breakfast, open to all veterans and community members, featuring special guest speakers and live entertainment.  The community is welcome on High Point University’s beautiful campus to come enjoy patriotic festivities in honor of those who sacrificed their lives to make America what it is today.  Every year, the university hosts guest speakers, typically individuals with a military background.  These speakers provide opportunities to reflect on the journey we have been through as Americans and allow us to express appreciation to our nation.  The High Point University students are also heavily involved in the event as well!  Many students help to hand out goods and greet community members upon arrival.  Seeing the warm friendly campus faces brightens the visitors day!  The event also consists of live performances from the talented North Carolina Brass Band and the High Point University Chamber singers.  These talented individuals show support to the veterans by performing in their honor.  We cannot forget the grand finale, Clark the Eagle!  Yes, that’s right you read correctly, a live bald eagle always makes a yearly appearance soaring over the crowd, leaving the audience in awe!  To support veterans in the overall local community, High Point University makes a yearly donation around Veteran’s Day to schools, government buildings, and nonprofit organizations.  As an immigrant himself, Dr. Nido Qubein shows mass appreciation for the United States and all that the U.S. veterans have done to make it what it is today.  

HPU At Christmas

Christmas time at HPU is truly a magical experience that you don’t want to miss. HPU takes “Deck The Halls” very seriously and instead decorates the whole campus! As a way to give back to the community, a Christmas drive is hosted annually to spread the holiday cheer right from your car!  After campus visiting hours, visitors are invited to see the vibrant decorations at night.  These include 138 bigger than life nutcrackers, a nativity scene, and Christmas lights that brighten the night with holiday spirit. 

Community Prayer Breakfast

Come join a breakfast of prayer and meaning in honor of Jesus Christ. HPU hosts a Community Prayer Breakfast, in honor of the true meaning of Christmas.  In addition to complementary food, participants will be able to reflect on the contributions of Christ and his legacy.  The breakfast also includes music from various choirs composed of High Point University students who want to give back to the community by performing to them for the holidays. The spectacular sounds of the season can’t be missed!  The university also participates in multiple charity functions throughout the season such as Angel Tree and “Stuff a Stocking Campaign” to give back to those in need.  HPU students work throughout the year to organize these events, allowing children who would otherwise not receive presents to enjoy the holiday season!  The community is also invited to attend the “Community Christmas” event!  On this grand night attendees are magically taken into a Christmas wonderland filled with cheer and joy.  The Christmas spirit fills the night as children partake in various Christmas events.  From attending a Crafty Elf Workshoppe, learning skills that can only be learned from Santa’s elves themselves to bouncing the Christmas spirit around in the air on the bounce houses, petting animals in a live petting zoo, and of course meeting the one and only Santa Clause!  This event is sure to leave a smile on your face and brighten up the night!

Cultural Experiences

High Point University is a school full of culture.  You can see it around campus by looking at the international flags on the promenade or by actually attending a cultural event.  Many of the events take place in the David R. Hayworth Fine Arts Center.  Upon arrival, you are immediately taken into an elegant theatre atmosphere, with various balcony levels providing an array of seating locations for you to enjoy the performances.  On top of that, there is a sparkling chandelier that sits in the center of the ceiling!   Year-round, High Point University offers more than 150 cultural events, guaranteeing something for all to see.  Art created by students in various artistic fields such as photography, ceramics, drawings and paintings, are often displayed, creating a gallery of talented work.  Literature in the forms of poetry, novels and writing of all sorts is presented or even performed, allowing all to experience culture provided by the authors or performers.  And of course the award-winning HPU choirs often perform live.    There are orchestras, jazz bands, and other types of musical performances for those who prefer instrumental performances.  Additionally, the school hosts guest speakers with various professionals and topics.  Lastly, theatrical performances depict the emotions of student actors as they portray individuals in the spotlight.  All of these events are open to the public.  Visit their website to find the events that best interest you and r eserve your tickets today! 

Show Your Panther Pride!

Now let’s talk sports!  High Point University is home to 16 different Division 1 sports, including basketball, soccer, and lacrosse!  Guests are encouraged to attend and cheer on the HPU Panthers!  It wouldn’t be frowned upon to wear purple either!  You may even bump into Prowler the Panther!  Some other fun experiences at HPU sports events include fireworks lighting up the sky as you root for the Panthers, eat delicious food while watching the games that’s sold at the concession stands or from the food trucks that often visit campus!  The food trucks are provided by local vendors, allowing you to taste the true High Point experience while on campus!  Tickets for all the athletic events are available online or call the ticket office 336-841-9276 to reserve your tickets today.  If you are interested in attending many sports games throughout the year consider joining the Panther Club.  The Panther Club seeks to raise money for the HPU Athletics teams.  By joining, donors will receive priority tickets for all the sports games and more!  HPU athletic events are great for children too!  By joining Prowler’s Kids Club , children will receive free entry to baseball, volleyball, lacrosse, and soccer games throughout the year, as well as gifts and invites to member-only events.  Please visit the High Point athletic website for more information or call 880-345-6993.

Taylor Swift ‘Eras Tour’ final nine concerts in US: Where to buy tickets

Taylor Swift is performing on her “Eras Tour” this week in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. She will perform on Thursday, July 4 ; Friday, July 5; and Saturday, July 6 , at Johan Cruijff Arena. (Ticket prices start under $200).

The wildly popular tour next heads to Zurich, Switzerland, for concerts on Tuesday, July 9, and Wednesday, July 10 .

The pop star will eventually be back in the United States for nine more concerts - three each in Florida, Louisiana and Indiana - before finishing out the tour in December in Canada.

Fans that don’t want to travel overseas to catch the tour (although ticket prices are much cheaper), can find tickets to her U.S. concerts here (prices are as of the time of this publication):

Taylor Swift 's VIP tent was full of star power during another Eras Tour show!

On Sunday, the GRAMMY-winning songstress, 34, hit the stage for her third night at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland, and Julia Roberts, Stevie Nicks and boyfriend Travis Kelce were all in attendance. In videos captured by fans, Roberts, 56, was spotted grabbing friendship bracelets from the audience. Meanwhile, the Fleetwood Mac lead vocalist, 76, was spotted in the VIP tent taking in the show.

For his part, Kelce, 34, was seen talking to the famous women. Everyone had one thing in mind, though: jamming out to Swift's music during her performance.

This isn't the first time that Roberts has attended one of Swift's show. In 2023, Roberts and her family attended the Eras Tour . After the show, the Oscar-winning actress took to Instagram to gush about the moment. Roberts also took the stage with Swift in 2015. 

Before going into her song "Clara Bow," Swift gave a special shout-out to Nicks -- whom she called a "hero of mine." 

"The reason I want to play this tonight is because a friend of mine is here who's watching the show and who has been one of the reasons why I, or any female artist, get to do what we get to do," she said. "She's become friends with so many female artists just to be a guiding hand. I can't tell you how rare that is. She's a hero of mine and also someone that I can tell her any secret and she'd never tell anybody. She's really helped me through so much over the years. I'm talking about Stevie Nicks!"

Kelce, on the other hand, hasn't been far from his girlfriend's mind during her weekend in Ireland. On Friday, Swift hit the Super Bowl champion's signature archer pose  during her performance of "Midnight Rain," which drew boisterous approval. As everyone knows, Kelce famously  strikes that pose  just before he runs out onto the field with the rest of his Kansas City Chiefs teammates.

According to  Page Six , Swift also rewore her Tiffany & Co.  diamond wire ring , which features the couple's diamond-dotted initials.

Prior to taking the stage, Swift shared a bouquet of flowers she received from rock icons U2 , who gave her a welcome to their home country. Swift took to social media to share a pictures of the flowers and the note from Bono and guitarist The Edge, bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen Jr.

"Dear Taylor, Welcome back to our hometown.... leave some of it standing?!!!! Your Irish fan club," the note read.

Swift's Eras Tour has not been without star power. Last week, the stars aligned (sang their hearts out) and packed her VIP area when she did her run of shows in London . Some of the biggest celebs in attendance included her boyfriend, Kelce, his brother Jason Kelce, his sister-in-law Kylie Kelce, Sophie Turner, Cara Delevingne and royalty -- Prince William, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. 

London is also where Swift and Kelce finally went IG official  and where he made his onstage debut alongside his leading lady.

Travis Kelce Praises Julia Roberts and Stevie Nicks After Meeting Them at Taylor Swift's Eras Tour Show

Travis Kelce is a regular in the VIP tent at girlfriend Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, hanging with celebrities like Tom Cruise and Gigi Hadid . But two recent attendees in particular left him raving after Swift's June 30 show in Dublin .

On the second season finale of his New Heights podcast co-hosted with his brother Jason , Kelce, 34, discussed meeting Julia Roberts and Stevie Nicks . “Yep. I met Julia Roberts in Ireland, in Dublin, Ireland. That was pretty cool, she was awesome. Her and Stevie Nicks were in there having some fun,” he said.

Kelce continued to praise Nicks and pointed out that his older brother needs to meet the rock legend. “You might be the only one in the family that hasn’t met her yet. Mom got to meet her down in Florida…and she is, I mean, every bit as what everyone makes her out to be. She’s just so, so awesome.”

Since the Eras Tour started in March 2023, Kelce has attended Swift's show 10 times and met various celebrities, including Bradley Cooper, Hadid and Prince William and his children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

Earlier in the episode, Kelce talked about one of the three London Eras Tour shows that he attended the week prior, when he made his debut on stage. The three-time Super Bowl champ explained that he gave himself a rule while carrying Swift, 34, during his surprise appearance. “The one thing I told myself is, do not drop the baby. Do not drop Taylor on your way over this damn couch. The golden rule was do not drop Taylor, get her to the couch safely,” he said.

Kelce also revealed how the cameo moment happened. "I initially mentioned it to Tay," he told his brother. "I was like, ‘How funny would it be if I just rolled out on one of the bikes during the 1989 era.'"

Swift laughed at the idea, Kelce said, before asking him, "'Would you seriously be up for doing something like that?’ "

He explained, "I was just like, ‘What? I would love to do that, are you kidding me?' I've seen the show enough — might as well put me to work here. And sure enough, she found the perfect part of the show for me to come in.”

Last week, Travis attended all three of Taylor's concerts at London's Wembley Stadium, and at the last one, the 34-year-old made a surprise onstage appearance as a guest performer, during which he carried his girlfriend bridal-style across the stage.

The "Style" singer, who has been dating the NFL star since last summer, later wrote on Instagram she was " cracking up/swooning over @killatrav's Eras Tour debut. "

Julia, 56, has also watched Taylor perform live before and also joined the 34-year-old onstage. The Pretty Woman actress attended her first Eras tour show in Chicago last June and in 2015, the Grammy winner invited Julia to take the stage with her at a concert in Santa Clara, Calif.

The Oscar winner and Travis were not the only fellow celebs seen at Taylor's latest Dublin concert. Rocker Stevie Nicks was also in attendance and received a special onstage tribute from the "Cruel Summer" singer. Also spotted among the crowd:  Florence Hunt , who plays Hyacinth on  Bridgerton .

A docuseries about the murders of four University of Idaho students has been picked up by Amazon with the streamer also planning a scripted version.

Bryan Christopher Kohberger was charged with four counts of murder after Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin were found stabbed to death in their off-campus home in Moscow, Idaho in 2022. A trial date has been set for June 2025.

This comes a year after Skydance optioned a book by James Patterson and Vicky Ward about the murders.

The docuseries will feature the support from the family of victim Ethan Chapin and victim Maddie Mogen’s mother and stepfather. It will launch on Prime Video.

David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Matt Thunell will executive produce for Skydance Television, with Patterson, Bill Robinson, and Patrick Santa executive producing for James Patterson Entertainment. Garbus, Dan Cogan, Jon Bardin, Katie King and Kate Barry will executive produce for Story Syndicate with Galkin executive producing for Fairhaven.

Garbus is also attached to direct the first episode of a scripted adaptation, which is in the works at Amazon MGM Studios.

It marks the second scripted take on the murders, which took place in 2022, after Village Roadshow Television acquired the rig hts to Howard Blum’s book When The Night Comes Falling.

“We are honored that the Chapin and Laramie families have decided to exclusively collaborate with us to shine a light on the personal stories of Ethan and Madison, as well as Xana and Kaylee,” said Garbus and Galkin. “Our unparalleled access to the families and closest friends will allow us to paint intimate and authentic portraits of all four victims and their lives at the University of Idaho, which were so tragically cut short. We couldn’t ask for better partners than Skydance and James Patterson Entertainment to help bring the definitive telling of this important story to the world.”

Travis Kelce watches Eras Tour in London with Tom Cruise, Hugh Grant, other A-Listers

The guy on the Chiefs is back for night two of Taylor Swift 's Eras Tour in London and sharing a VIP tent with a handful of A-List celebrities.

The Eras Tour singer hard launched her relationship with Travis Kelce , after dating him for almost a year, by posting the very first Instagram photo of the two with Prince William and his two children . Prince William enjoyed his 42nd birthday from a balcony suite overlooking the right side of the stage, at one point shimmying during "Shake It Off."

On night two, Travis sported a backwards USA Olympics cap. The same hat he wore on night one, pairing it with an off-white, short-sleeved button up.

Jason Kelce collected friendship bracelets and posed for photos with his wife Kylie outside of Wembley Stadium. Dressed in a white and marigold vintage bowling shirt, the former NFL center told one fan his favorite era was 1989.

The VIP tent on the floor housed some top talent including actors Tom Cruise, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Liam Hemsworth, Hugh Grant and director Greta Gerwig.

Travis Kelce supports Swift by attending multiple shows

On Friday, Travis attended the three plus hour show with Jason and Kylie. Their VIP tent included "Bridgerton" actress Nicola Coughlan, Queer Eye personality Jonathan van Ness and actress Cara Delevingne.

The tight end has attended the tour seven times visiting stops in Argentina , Australia,  Singapore , France and England. Every time number 87 is in the audience, the singer changes her lyrics in “Karma” to "Karma is the guy on the Chiefs coming straight home to me." For the 2023-2024 season, Swift attended 13 NFL games to support the tight end , culminating in Super Bowl 58.

Swift has one more show in London before heading to Dublin, Ireland.

Amazon Prime Video has ordered a docuseries about the 2022 Idaho murders, with a separate scripted series in the works.

The docuseries, from Skydance Television and Story Syndicate, will chronicle “the November 2022 murders of four University of Idaho students and the subsequent investigation, arrest, and trial of suspect Bryan Kohberger,” per a press release. It will be based on the upcoming nonfiction book about the murders by James Patterson and Vicky Ward. Both the docuseries and scripted series stem from Patterson’s first-look deal with Skydance.

Kylie Kelce is still reveling in the “Afterglow” of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour shows in London.

The college athlete admitted on her Instagram Monday that she “had to fangirl” over meeting sports reporters Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson while hanging out together in the VIP section of Wembley Stadium.

“Pardon the delay because we were very busy last week. But I have to circle back to meeting the absolute queens @CharissaJThompson and @ErinAndrews,” Kelce, 32, wrote in her post.

“I had to fangirl over them both for not only being badass women in sports. But also having meaningful and empowering conversation on @CalmDownPodcast.”

Kelce wrote the message over a photo of her posing with the two women and their husbands as well as her brother-in-law and Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce.

Kylie and her husband, Jason Kelce, attended two of the “Shake It Off” singer’s concerts the weekend of June 21 following a visit to the Cannes Lions festival in the French Riviera.

While at Wembley, Jason, 36, proved to be a dedicated Swiftie as he was seen in fan videos trading tons of friendship bracelets with fellow fans.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 34, and retired Philadelphia Eagles center also met Prince William , Princess Charlotte and Prince George while at Swift’s concert.

“Prince William was fantastic, but the highlight was Princess Charlotte,” Jason told listeners of his and Travis’ “New Heights” podcast. “She was so f–king adorable.

“Maybe because I have three girls now, [but] she had a fire to her,” Jason continued. “She was asking questions.”

Swift, 34, is set to return to Wembley Stadium on Aug. 15 for five additional shows.
