Popular Tourist Places which we cover in our Andaman Tour Packages

The historical Jail

The Cellular Jail (also known as Kala Pani) was a colonial prison made by the British, which was an aftermath of the Sepoy Mutiny. Many years after the independence, it was open to the public. Here you would find massive structures which were ideally built for the inmates back then

Havelock Island

One of the most important places to visit is the Havelock Island, which is a natural beauty when it comes to the beaches and its magnificent coral reefs. It is connected close to the Port Blair, and one can enjoy the underwater marine life here. The most famous Elephant Beach is positioned on the Havelock Island.

Mud volcano

Many mud volcanoes are distributed between the North and the South Andaman. One can take a moment to notice at the time of the eruption, just to view how mud erupts from the earth.

India’s Only Live Volcano

In a small island across the Andaman Sea, you would find the only confirmed active volcano in South Asia, at Barren Islands. Just seeing it from far, you would understand how Mother Nature works profoundly.

Viewing the bioluminescent beach

It would seem like tiny lighted stars right below your feet in the Havelock Island. On no moon nights, an ecstatic array of lights can be seen near the shore side, and this adds more beauty to the beach.

Ross Island, South Andaman

One can view any animals and birds like deer and peacocks. Ancient ruins of buildings can be found here, indicating how our architecture was in the olden days. The beaches are the one to keep a tab, filled with coconut and palm trees, a real paradise indeed.

India’s Southernmost Point

The other most remarkable view not to miss here is the Indira point. It is the southernmost point in India, where the end leads to nowhere at least close to fifty nautical miles.

So basically, the number of days you want to visit the Andaman Islands varies upon how many places you plan to visit during your stay at the islands. Post the above itineraries you still have some offbeat places such as Long Island to cover which in itself requires 3 days.

For travelers who are short of time can consider a 4 days trip to Andaman Islands and cover Port Blair and Havelock Island as per the itinerary below. The first and the last days of your visit to Andaman should be in Port Blair as the only commercial airport of Andaman is in Port Blair. Other islands has to be visited in a ferry from Port Blair

Day 1 - Arrival - Stay at Port Blair Day 2 - Travel to Havelock Island Day 3 - Return from Havelock to Port Blair Day 4 - Departure

Step 3 - Things to visit in Andaman

Now while you are planning your visit to Andaman you will need to know what the best things to do in Andaman are and the major places that need to be visited. The top places in the Andaman Islands are

At Port Blair - The capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, this is where you land on the day of arrival in Andaman

Port Blair Andaman Islands

Top places at Port Blair Cellular Jail - History Corbyns Cove Beach - Beach and water activities Chidiatapu - Sunset point Ross Island - History and nature North Bay Island - Beach and Water sports At Baratang Island Middle Andaman - Comes under middle Andaman Limestone Caves is a unique experience here at Baratang

Baratang Island

The major locations at Neil Island are  Bharatpur Beach Laxmanpur Beach Natural Rock Formation Sitapur beach Travelers who prefer visiting the islands for water activities should spend more time at Havelock Island as the major activities are done at Havelock. Refer our detailed article about things to do in Andaman Islands to get all details about various things that one can do in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Knowing what you want to do in Andaman is crucial while planning your island trip. Check our some of our best articles about places, beaches, offbeat things in the islands that can help you select what you want to do in Andaman Beaches in Andaman Tourist places in Andaman Islands Offbeat places in Andaman

Step 4 - Get your flight tickets

Flight tickets to the Andaman Islands can get really expensive based on your date of travel. The airport where you land at Port Blair is called Veer Savarkar International Airport and the code is IXZ

Direct flights are available from Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, and Hyderabad. Connecting flights are available from all cities with intermittent direct flights from Mumbai and Delhi as well.

When you plan your budget for Andaman the flight costs are a great deal. If you get cheaper quotes for flights then your overall package cost goes down.

Approx cost of flight per person from major cities

Chennai (MAA) to Port Blair (IXZ) - Direct Flights - One Way - 6000 - 9000 Rupees per person

Kolkata (CCU) to Port Blair (IXZ) - Direct Flights - One Way - 6000 - 9000 Rupees per person

Bangalore (BLR) to Port Blair (IXZ) - Direct Flights / 1 Stop - One Way - 8000 - 12000 Rupees per person

Hyderabad (HYD) to Port Blair (IXZ) - Direct Flights / 1 Stop - One Way - 8000 - 12000 Rupees per person

Delhi (DEL) to Port Blair (IXZ) - Direct Flights / 1 Stop - One Way - 10000 - 16000 Rupees per person

Mumbai (BOM) to Port Blair (IXZ) - Direct Flights / 1 Stop - One Way - 10000 - 16000 Rupees per person

If you see the price flight varies a lot based on the season and your date of travel. The price can sometimes go very high to reach the Andaman Islands specifically from the North part of India. You can connect with the Experience Andamans team to get group flight prices from the below-mentioned cities and as per availability we will share with you the series airfare.

The cities that we have best price to Port Blair are Chennai Kolkata Bangalore

Step 4 - Cost of Accommodation

Now once you know the cost of a Flight from your city, the next is to add the price of accommodation at all the islands that you are planning to stay in the islands as per your itinerary.

The accommodation has to be booked at Port Blair, Havelock and Neil Island

At Port Blair, the cost of the stay is comparatively cheaper than that of Havelock and Neil Island

Budget accommodation - Less than 1500 Rupees per night on double-sharing basis 2 Star Properties - 2500 Rupees per night on double sharing basis 3 Star Properties - 3500 - 4500 Rupee per night on double sharing basis 4 Star Properties - 5000 - 9000 Rupees per night on double sharing basis 5 Star Properties - 8000 - 15000 Rupees per night on double sharing basis

At Havelock Island  Budget accommodation - Less than 1500 Rupees per night on double-sharing basis 2 Star Properties - 3000 Rupees per night on double sharing basis 3 Star Properties - 4500 - 5500 Rupee per night on double sharing basis 4 Star Properties - 5000 - 18000 Rupees per night on double sharing basis 5 Star Properties - 20000 - 40000 Rupees per night on double sharing basis

Likewise at Neil Island.

The major cost of your trip to Andaman Islands will be

Flight Cost + Accommodation Cost - These two costs will cover around 70% of your total package cost in Andaman Islands

Let's take an example to get an approximate cost so far for your trip to Andaman Islands

Consider 2 Adults are traveling from Chennai and are visiting Andaman Islands for 5 days with 2 Nights in Port Blair and 2 Nights at Havelock Island

Flight ticket cost = 8000 x 2 x 2 (return airfare) = 32000 Accommodation Cost in 3 Star hotels Port Blair = 3500 x 2 = 7000 Havelock = 4500 x 2 = 9000

The total cost of accommodation with Breakfast = 16000

Total cost for your trip so far = 32000 For Flights  + 16000 For Accomodation = 48000

Now we need to consider the cost of Ferry, Transport, Activities and Food which we will cover below

Step 5 - Cost of Ferry to move from one Island to the other

Ferry in Andaman Islands is very important again. Basically you will be landing at Port Blair airport and to go to other islands such as Havelock and Neil Island you will need a ferry that takes you from one island to the other and brings to you back. These ferries are of prime importance in your trip planning. If you select an island to book where the ferry is not on a regular basis then you will end up paying more or you can even end not reaching the islands because of no ferry operational.

Ferry to havelock from Port Blair

The major ferries that operate in Andaman Islands are :

Government ferry - No online booking only counter booking allowed Makruzz Nautika ITT Majestic Green Ocean

Except for the Government ferry, all other ferries can be booked online.  Check the ferry booking details on our website that can be booked online

So the ferry charges approximately 1500 Per Person for each side. Therefore for 2 adults as per our previous itinerary, we will need a ferry from Port Blair to Havelock Island and return from Havelock to Port Blair Ferry cost = 1500 x 2 x 2 side = 6000

Total trip cost = Flight + Hotel + Ferry = 32000 (Flight) + 16000 (Stay) + 6000 (Ferry) = 54000 Per Couple for 4 Night 5 Days trip with 2 Nights in Port Blair and 2 Nights at Havelock Island

Next we need to discuss about the other cost such as transportation, activities and sightseeing.

Step 6 - Cost of water activities

Once you are sorted with your flight, hotels and ferry then comes the next part of your trip planning is the cost of water activities in the Andaman islands . The major activities that is done in Havelock Island island are as below :

Andaman water sports seawalk

Scuba Diving costs Rupees 3500 Per Person Sea Walking cost Rupees 3500 Per Person Jet Ski ride cost Rupees 700 Per Person Semi Submarine cost Rupees 2100 Per Person Likewise many activities are available at different islands, please check the detailed list of all the water activities in Andaman on our website.

So as per our previous itinerary plan suppose we want to add Scuba Diving  for 2 people then the package cost will add up 7000. After adding the activity the package cost will be

Total trip cost = Flight + Hotel + Ferry + Scuba Diving for 2 Persons = 32000 (Flight) + 16000 (Stay) + 6000 (Ferry) + 7000 (Scuba Diving) = 61000 Per Couple for 4 Night 5 Days trip with 2 Nights in Port Blair and 2 Nights at Havelock Island Many travelers add 2 - 3 different activities in Andaman and as per the price the budget of your trip increases.

Step 7 - Cost of transportation as per your itinerary

In this section, we will specifically discuss about the package cost for 4 Night and 5 days. So far we have came down to the below cost

Total trip cost = Flight + Hotel + Ferry + Scuba Diving for 2 Persons = 32000 (Flight) + 16000 (Stay) + 6000 (Ferry) + 7000 (Scuba Diving) = 61000 Per Couple for 4 Night 5 Days trip with 2 Nights in Port Blair and 2 Nights at Havelock Island Let us consider the itinerary as below :

Day 1 - Airport Pickup. Then visit to Corbyns Cove Beach and Cellular Jail - Overnight at Port Blair Day. 2 - Travel from Port Blair to Havelock in a ferry and visit Radhanagar Beach - Overnight at Havelock Island Day 3 - Visit Elephant Beach Day 4 - Scuba Diving at Havelock Island and Return to Port Blair Day 5 - Departure

Cabs in Andaman

The cab cost for the above pickup and drop will come approximately to 7000 Rupees for all pickup and drops. If you are taking a 2 wheeler at Havelock Island then the cost only for Port Blair pickup and drop will come to Rupees 4000 and for 2 days two-wheeler will cost you 500 Per day rental with petrol extra. So lets consider 1500 including rental and the petrol.

So overall in transportation, you will be spending approx 6000 Rupees In the above cost entry ticket to Cellular Jail, Light and Sound Show and ferry ticket to Elephant beach are not considered. These tickets for couple will cost around 3000 Per Couple So the revised budget now becomes

Total trip cost = Flight + Hotel + Ferry + Scuba Diving for 2 Persons + Transportation + Entry tickets = 32000 (Flight) + 16000 (Stay) + 6000 (Ferry) + 7000 (Scuba Diving) + 6000 (Transportation) + 3000 (Entry Tickets) = 70000 Per Couple for 4 Night 5 Days trip with 2 Nights in Port Blair and 2 Nights at Havelock Island

With this we have now come to an approximate cost for your trip to Andaman Islands including flight, hotels, ferry, activity and transport. The last leg is the food cost which will bring you to the overall cost

Step 8 - Food Cost

The final part of your cost comes from your food and personal expenses. Let's consider the average meal cost per person is 500. Therefore for 4 days, you will be having 8 meals in total including lunch and dinner

Approx cost of food equals 500 per meal x 2 person x 4 days x 2 (lunch and dinner) = 8000. Let's keep an upper side for food to be around 10k considering evening snacks etc

Total Final trip cost = Flight + Hotel + Ferry + Scuba Diving for 2 Persons + Transportation + Entry tickets + Food = 32000 (Flight) + 16000 (Stay) + 6000 (Ferry) + 7000 (Scuba Diving) + 6000 (Transportation) + 3000 (Entry Tickets) + 10000 (Food) = 80000 Per Couple for 4 Night 5 Days trip with 2 Nights in Port Blair and 2 Nights at Havelock Island

Therefore we can say that an approximate cost of 80000 will be spent on your 5 days trip to Andaman Islands. The key to planning your trip is to get the lowest deals on flight and hotels. If you get it cheaper then you save a lot more during your trip.

  • Some Andaman packages also include day trips to Ross Island and North Bay Island or Baratang and Jolly Buoy island from Port Blair.
  • Apart from BSNL, the Airtel network is now available in Port Blair and Andaman and at a few points in Neil Island. It will be difficult to get connectivity for any other cellular service.

Places to Visit in Andaman

Radhanagar Beach: Awarded with the title of 'Asia's Best Beach' by the TIMES magazine in 2004, Radhanagar Beach in Havelock Island with its turquoise blue waters and powdery white sands lives up to the moniker. Its vast shores of endless white grains stretch across 2 kilometres, making it a prime attraction of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Cellular Jail: The Cellular Jail, also known as 'Kala Pani' is an old colonial prison situated in Port Blair. Constructed by the Britishers during their colonial rule in India, the jail was used particularly to exile Indian political prisoners. The jail complex is now owned by the Government of India and it is recognised as the national memorial monument that showcases the life of prisoners during the British era. A light and sound show is held here every evening. Ross Island: Ross Island is an uninhabited island, located just 2 kilometres east of Port Blair. At first sight of the island, it is tough to believe that this abandoned place was once the seat of British power and housed everything from a bazaar, a church, stores, bakery, a water treatment plant, tennis court, printing press, secretariat, hospital, cemetery and other vital institutions. Today, everything has disappeared except a few buildings, which housed some of these landmarks. The prime attraction here is the Japanese Bunker and a light and sound show conducted every evening.  Elephant Beach: With its brilliant coral reefs and alluring cyan waters, the Elephant beach is a prime destination for tourists wishing to engage in watersports like snorkelling, swimming, banana boat rides, speed boats and diving. For those who are here to relax, the beach offers some exciting food and drink options while one lounges leisurely on the sands. One could also engage in other adventurous activities like bird-watching, trekking and kayaking.  North Bay Island: North Bay Island in Andaman is most preferred by tourists for its breathtaking coral reefs and exhilarating adventure activities. This island competes with some of the most beautiful islands all over the world when it comes to attracting tourists. Activities like scuba diving, snorkelling, sea walking, and glass boat rides are what allures tourists the most. You will find more things to do here than at Neil Island or Havelock. Neil Island: Neil Island is a part of the South Andaman Administrative District. A part of the massive ocean separates it from Ross Island and Havelock Island. Tourists visiting Havelock often make a day-long trip to Neil Island. Perhaps the most endearing feature of this island is its three sandy beaches, namely Bharatpur Beach, Sitapur Beach and Lakshmanpur Beach. Due to its limited area, Neill Island can be covered with a simple walk. All three beaches are exquisite and extraordinarily clean and are well-connected to the mainland as well. Chidiya Tapu: Known as the bird island, Chidiya Tapu is a picturesque little island in the Andamans, located around 25 kms from Port Blair. While birdwatching is the main allure of the location, there are some fun water activities like snorkelling, scuba diving, deep-sea walking, pearl hunting, and boating that one could engage in along its shores. The Sunset point of the island is considered one of the best sunset points in the Andamans. A trekking trail is also available here. Corbyn’s Cove Beach: Corbyn's Cove is the nearest beach to Port Blair. The facilities for water sports are also not as impressive as many other beaches in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. But if one wants to, they can go Jet Skiing or go on a short boat ride into the sea. Certain parts of the Corbyn’s Cove Beach have some seating arrangement to get a good view of the horizon from a little height. There are some shacks that sell local snacks, drinks, coconut water etc.  Viper Island: Years before Cellular Jail was constructed, Viper Island was used by the British to keep the freedom fighters in exile. You can still see the remains of the jail which was built in 1867 by the British. It is located at a distance of 10 minutes ferry ride from Port Blair. On the way to the island, you will also come across the main port and the navy ships of Port Blair. You can also enjoy the view of the cellular jail and its tower from the boat.  Havelock Island: Havelock Island is one of the largest and most popular isles in the Andaman and Nicobar group of islands.  The southern coast of the island has the charming Radhanagar Beach, while the azure beauty of Vijayanagar Beach is situated towards the east of the island. Elephant beach and Kalapather beach are two other destinations where the sunrise and sunsets are absolutely divine. Most Andaman tour packages include a 1 to 2 night stay in Havelock Island.

Things to Do in Andaman

Scuba Diving: Andaman and Nicobar Islands is a popular spot for scuba diving among tourists. Most popular island among all the islands for the dives however, is Havelock. It is an ideal diving destination for everyone, right from a novice to an experienced diver. For non-certified amateur divers, charges start from about INR 3,500 for a 30 minute dive Snorkelling: There are various centres that offer short courses and provide the equipment required for snorkelling. They consist of various programmes for the beginner, intermediate and advanced swimmers. You can experience snorkelling at North Bay Island, Jolly Buoy Island, Havelock Island, Red Skin Island, in Wandoor, Long Island, Andaman Water Sports Complex, Neill Island, South Button, Henry Lawrence Beach, Rutland Island and Kalipur.  Mangrove Kayaking: Known for their breathtaking beauty, immense greenery, and numerous water bodies, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are an ideal destination for mangrove kayaking. Tour packages are available for morning and night. Port Blair, Havelock, Ross Island and Baratang are some of the most popular locations for the activity. Port Blair’s Veer Savarkar Park is a well-known spot for mangrove kayaking, and the trip goes through the mangroves, a narrow lagoon, tiny islets, and open areas. Sea Walking: An absolute joy for adventure lovers who wish to avoid diving and swimming constantly, sea walking is an excellent way to experience marine life in peace. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands offer multiple opportunities to go down to the sea bed, walk around and discover the unique geographical elements, coral reefs, fish and other aquatic life. Instructors prepare with a short tutorial and accompany throughout the sea walk’s duration. Havelock Island, Ross Island and North Bay are ideal for sea walking. Glass Bottom Dolphin Boat: A one-of-a-kind boat experience, a ride atop the Glass Bottom Dolphin Boat on North Bay Island is an excellent way to discover the island’s diverse marine life and coral reefs without actually having to go underwater. An international-quality speedboat, the Glass Bottom Dolphin Boat is the only one of its kind in India, with similar ones being found only in Australia. Suitable for adults and children alike, the ride provides an opportunity to discover various sea turtles, colourful fish and coral reefs.

The Andaman group of islands is situated about 1520 km from mainland India. This beautiful tropical escape is popular among all types of travelers, groups, honeymoon couples, and families.

The island Islands is blessed with white sandy beaches, rich history, and lush tropical rainforest. However, the remote location of the Andaman islands and the topography makes it very complicated for travelers to plan their trip to Andaman.

Most of the islands popular among tourists are located far from Port Blair (the capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands), and there is minimal internet and mobile network connectivity.

You will need to manage a lot of things while you are planning your Andaman trip, like choosing the right hotel, arranging transport in different islands, and booking local ferry and sightseeing tickets.

Andaman tour package cost what to expect .

The cost of your Andaman tour package for two people could range from anywhere between Rs 10000 per person to Rs 50000 per person. You might be wondering why this huge variation in cost!

The cost of your Andaman package is calculated based on the place you visit, the hotel you choose, and the number of persons traveling. We would discuss this in-depth in the next section, but here I would like to give you an example:

If you are a family of 5 people visiting for a 5-day trip, your per-person cost would be less than a couple on the same tour package. This is because the family will be sharing a vehicle where the cost is split between 5 people.

This was one of the many reasons which could affect your Andaman tour package cost.

We at Tropical Andamans have served thousands of customers over that last seven years and understand what each type of traveler could be interested in. We will help you customize your trip in such a way that you don’t waste your money and get the best value.

Why our tour packages cost is less than competitors?

We guarantee that our tour package cost is much lower than our competitor’s. Now, you could ask how we manage such low cost on our tour packages? Well, I would like to list out a few points which make booking your Andaman tour package with us the cheapest –

We are a 7-year-old company based out of Port Blair, which is the capital of the Andaman Islands. This means we understand the islands very well and have a good team on the ground, unlike many tour package providers who are based in mainland India and depend on local vendors to take care of their guests. Our strong local presence helps us to provide your Andaman tour package at minimum cost.

We being a local company, have prebooked inventory at many of the top hotels in Andamans. This helps us to get rooms at rates that are much lower than what you would get directly or through online booking sites. Our ability to procure hotel rooms at much lower prices plays a significant role in keeping our tour package price low.

We have a fleet of 20 brand new vehicles that are managed very efficiently by our operations team and able drivers. Owning our vehicle fleet gives us the flexibility to keep the package cost low while not compromising on the quality of our service

Choose from our range on Andaman Tour package options We provide a wide range of Andaman tour packages categorized into various sections based on your budget.

Browse through the different budget packages below

As we have mentioned earlier, the Andaman tour packages cost is dependent on a variety of factors, and you will need to understand them to choose the Andaman tour package that is best suited for your needs.

Let us discuss how to calculate your Andaman trip cost in detail:

Airfares make a significant portion of your Andaman trip cost. Most of the travel agents offer only land packages and do not provide air ticketing services.

We at tropical Andamans have an air ticketing desk only for customers who book group packages. Though we provide flight ticketing services at request but encourage our customers to book online by themselves.

If you are planning to visit Andaman during Peak season the fares from major cities in India could range from Rs 7000 to Rs 15000 per person.we We suggest you book your air tickets early to get reasonable rates.

If you plan to travel during the off-peak season, the flight rates are constant at about Rs 5000 per person.

So Book you ait tickets at least two months in advance if traveling in peak season.

Hotel selection for your Andaman trip

Hotels and resort stay costs make up about 30-50% of your total package cost. If you plan your hotel choices at port Blair, havelock, and Niel island wisely, you will end up saving a lot on your package cost.

how much andaman trip cost

You should decide your hotel depending on what type of traveler you areFor couples, we always suggest booking a premium beach resort in havelock, and you can go with a standard 3-star hotel in port Blair as port Blair has more sightseeing places, and you will hardly be in your hotel room. For families and groups, we suggest hotels which allow extra beds or have family rooms .this will help you reduce the price of your package a lot.For solo travelers or bachelors in a group, we suggest to take standard clean hotels in both port Blair and havelock and spend more time and money exploring stuff and on adventure activities.

How many days you are spending in Andaman

The number of days you decide to spend in Andaman is the most significant factor in determining your trip cost. A quick three-day trip would cost much less than a six-day trip covering all attractions.

For people on a budget, we suggest taking a 4-day tour plan with two days in port Blair 1 day at havelock and same-day return from Niel. We can make the itinerary a bit more hectic, and you can quickly visit most of the famous attractions while keeping your entire night stays to a minimum.

This approach of a packed itinerary is only for those who are on a budget but still want to visit all the places in Andaman.

We have seen from experience that most people enjoy an Andaman tour package, which has a relaxed itinerary, and they get enough time to enjoy each location thoroughly.

What activities you plan

There are a lot of activities that are available in the Andaman islands for visiting tourists. And generally, tour operators try to include them all in your Andaman tour package because they get good commissions from the activity providers.

While most of the activities are fun and adventurous, they are not for everyone

In our experience, we have seen that people book many activities and don’t end up doing all of them and waste a lot of money. Money which could have been used to do stuff they would enjoy. For example, Many people book scuba diving for the whole group beforehand, but only a few members finally end up doing it.

We suggest that you do not include any watersport activity in your Andaman tour package and book it through your travel agent once you are at the locations. The exception is people who are sure about the activity they want to do and can book in advance.

Which of the locations you prefer

Andaman has about 20 attractions which are popular among tourists and many more remote beaches and spots where locals visit frequently.

You cannot cover them all, no matter which Andaman tour package you choose. So we have made a list of the popular destination and tips on how to choose the attraction you want to visit while keeping your Andaman tour package cost within your budget:

Andaman tour attractions and cost details

City tour of port blair:.

Most tour operators include a city tour on the first day the guests arrive. You typically visit the small parks, zoos, and museums in port Blair city. On average, you get charged Rs 1500 for one five-seater vehicle.

While the city tour is recommended for families with children, couples and bachelors usually don’t enjoy it very much. We can suggest that if you are a couple or a group of bachelors, you can skip the city tour and spend more time at Corbyn’s cove beach near port Blair or visit marina park for some watersport activities like jet ski.

Cellular jail

Cellular jail is a national monument and gives you a glimpse into the Andaman’s history and significance in the Indian independence struggle.

The cellular jail is a gigantic structure with a museum attached. “light and sound show ” at cellular jail showcases the history of the prison and the Andaman islands in a theatrical way.

Most of our guests have given us positive reviews after visiting cellular jail. We suggest you add cellular jail to your itinerary as the entry ticket is only Rs 200, and the jail is located within the city.

Ross island

Ross Island is a tiny uninhabited island just off the coast of Port Blair city. The ross island was the old administrative capital of the British in their early days in the Andaman Islands during the 18th century.

Now the island is controlled by the Indian navy and is open for tourist. The island is famous for its old British ruins from the 18th century, which are mostly intact. The people visiting there feel like they have traveled back in time to a ghost town.

The cost of a ticket to ross island is about Rs 500, depending on the season. The last boat from ross island to Port Blair leaves at 5 pm.

Ross Island can be a fun trip for all kind of travelers, and for couples and groups who are not into archeology and history, there is a lovely beach at the rear side of ross island where you can spend quality time.

Havelock Island

Havelock island is the most popular destination for tourists travelling to the Andaman islands and for a good reason.

Havelock Island has many attractions like the famous Radha Nagar beach, Kala Patthar beach, and elephant beach. We recommend you visit Radha Nagar beach and Kala Patthar beach it will cost you about Rs 1500 for a four-wheeler.

Elephant beach requires traveling on a small boat and will cost you about Rs 1000 per person. Visit elephant beach if you have time as it is famous for its crystal clear water and snorkeling activities.

Scuba diving

Andaman is divers heaven. There are many dive schools in havelock, which conduct recreational diving for tourists. You dive up to 5mts along with a certified diver.

how much andaman trip cost

Diving in Andamans is safe, and it is a beautiful experience thanks to the clear waters at havelock. Though it is not for everyone and some people find it too intimidating. The cost of a 15min dive is about Rs 3000.

How to plan the Ultimate Trip to the Andamans?

Step 1: pin down on what you want your trip to look like.

how much andaman trip cost

What your trip looks like often boils down to the intent behind your trip and the type of traveller you are. Your intent could be adventure, a honeymoon, an anniversary with your partner, some quality family time or plain ole alone time. A lot of your vacation decisions rest on this intent.

Here are some bite-sized takeaways for different types of travellers:

For the romantics:

More Havelock + Neil, less Port Blair should be your go-to mantra. If you’re looking at about a week, the ratio can be 6:1. Nothing says romantic like a beach-side resort with swaying coconut trees and an open-aired bar. Look for an upper-category room to ramp up the oomph factor.

Read more about how you can plan the most romantic trip here.

For the adventurers:

Do not miss out on the breath-taking scuba-diving experiences you can have in the Andamans . The best places to dive are: Havelock, Neil & Chidiya Tapu, Port Blair. If you’re an experienced diver, looking to organise a dive trip to more remote locations like Barren Island , seasoned dive shops like Lacadives will be happy to help you with it. You’ll have to call at-least 1-2 months in advance and book it, since it’ll require special permits that could take time to come through. Look up & book other activities before you go, these could include: kayaking , sea karting, jet skiing, para sailing, sea walking, snorkelling & trekking.

Click here for the Complete Guide to Scuba Diving in the Andamans.

For the family traveller:

Mix it up with some culture and adventure. You can split your time equally between Port Blair, Havelock and Neil. Do look for properties with pools, because no family vacation is complete without pool games. If you’re a large family, you can approach hotels for a group rate and even book a private party space in advance!

For the solo traveller:

The nicest part about going solo is the freedom to set your own pace and to explore off-beat places. So, if you’re keen on something like this, look up lesser-known islands like: Long Island, Ross & Smith, Little Andaman and Rutland. You’ll find yourself transported backwards in time to idyllic little towns and villages that will allow you a sort of mental re-awakening. But hey, if it’s Havelock + Neil you’re craving, then by all means, go for it! They are sure to give you equally enriching experiences.

Step 2: Pin down on a Budget Range

how much andaman trip cost

Your budget range will probably determine the resort or hotel that you choose to stay at. If you’re looking at a luxury or a mid-range group of hotels, it could mean that you’re not looking to cut corners in most places and can comfortably accommodate a range of island activities, restaurant hopping and bar hopping in your budget. So, this one’s mostly for people looking to travel on a tighter budget.

There are some things we recommend you skimp on and some things that you absolutely don’t, if you’re not looking to splurge and go all-out. Here it goes:

  • Regardless of what your budget is, feel free to cut down in Port Blair but go in for the best resort that your budget can offer in Havelock.
  • If you’re looking to add a bit of adventure, allocate a minimum budget of 10k per person for a vacation of 4-5 days. You may not partake every day, but you’ll want to do something every 2 days to break the monotony of the beach and the pool.
  • Allocate a minimum budget of 7k per person for restaurant hopping for a vacation of 4-5 days. You may not want to eat at the resort or hotel of your stay every single day. So, put aside a small budget for exploring different eateries. This is an absolute must.

Step 3: Pin down on the perfect number of days

how much andaman trip cost

While the “perfect number” may sound far-fetched, there is a number at which just about any traveller will be happy. That sweet number, lovelies, is 7 days aka. a week. Anything less than that and you’re sure to be feeling like you’re hurrying along. You’re dreading the end of your vacation even before it has started. We’ve done it and it’s the worst! More than a week is, of course, ideal but some may say that we’re being over-optimistic. So, we’ll leave it at 7 days minimum. That’s the sweet spot, if you will.

Step 4: Know the different seasons and the best time of travel for you

how much andaman trip cost

Do you want to be here when it’s pouring cats, dogs and whales? Maybe. Maybe you’re the rare breed of traveller that relies only on your hearty spirit to make the best of your holiday. However, that’s not been our experience with most holiday-makers. Weather can be a deal-breaker for most people. Pick your dates smartly and in all probability, you may end up having a sunny time.

So, for the weather-cautious, the break-down of tourist seasons in the Andamans looks more or less like this:

Process of Booking the Holiday

how much andaman trip cost

Step 1: Flights First

Booking of flights is a great starting point for travellers to the Andamans. Here are a couple of tips to keep in mind:

  • Book flights 1-2 months in advance: Flights to Port Blair during the High + Peak seasons can be exorbitant, if they’re not booked in advance. So, try and book at-least 1-2 months in advance, if not more. This is especially for folks looking to travel in December and January. Last-minute ticket costs in these two months can go to as high as Rs. 30,000 one-way and getting a ticket can become an annoying, expensive affair.
  • Book flights smartly, it can save you money: If you’re looking to spend time only in Havelock & Neil, book the earliest flight into Port Blair, so you can get the last ferry to the islands that departs from Port Blair at 2 pm. Similarly, from Havelock or Neil, book the earliest ferry into Port Blair, so that you can leave on the last flight back. This will mean that you can give Port Blair a complete miss, if you want to, without spending the night here.

Step 2: Ferries before Hotels

Book your inter-island ferry tickets (from Port Blair to Havelock or Neil islands) before you book your hotels, even if you’re someone that loves to take it as it comes. There are a limited number of ferries on the islands and thereby, there are a limited number of tickets. We’d recommend booking it at-least a month in advance. At worst, you can do 3 weeks in advance. Through the years, we’ve seen some travellers come to the islands without ferry tickets and struggling with it after they’ve arrived. It can make for a bitter experience if you only have a few days in hand and are not pleased to be stuck in Port Blair.

Step 3: Hotel Bookings

Booking hotels and resorts is a vast field to cover, but we’ll give you the most important things to keep in mind while booking them.

  • More Havelock + Neil, Less Port Blair: If we had a rupee for every time we’ve said this, we’d have a piggy bank full of fat coins. But this is essential and cannot be said enough. If you’re here for a tropical beach vacation, then Havelock & Neil islands are where you want to be spending the most time. Although Port Blair district does have its own set of coveted beach locations, we’re still a little partial to the island twins: Havelock & Neil.
  • Location. Location. Location: Decide on whether you want a moderately crowded space or a near-isolated resort on a remote part of the island. Most people on short trips prefer to stay close to the buzz. All the islands are comfortable quiet after dark, so you are not likely to be faced with loud music or drunk vacationers, in any case. But if you’re after a special type of isolation, and are looking to step off the beaten path, you only need ask.
  • Beach-side hotels > Hotels not on the beach: We don’t think this needs an explanation. But we’re still going to do it: white sand, a heady sea breeze and a beach lined with coconut trees. Okay, you get the drift.
  • Pool is cool: Disgustingly rhymed words aside, even if you’re on a beach, luxuriating in a pool is a whole different vibe. And if it’s a pool with a pool-side bar, extra brownie points for that! Because nothing better than sitting on a flamingo, sipping chilled beer and soaking up the sun.

Step 4: Booking your Activities

Booking your activities well in advance may be to your advantage if you have very few days of vacation time and don’t have the luxury of flexibility.

  • Book your Scuba session in advance: If you book a Scuba-Diving session (you should definitely), do it well in advance. This is especially applicable during peak season between December and January when most dive shops get completely booked out.
  • More adventure, less sight-seeing: Indulge in more adventure activities, like water sports & trekking, and less sight-seeing activities. Try to pick 2-3 sights to see, if at all and don’t let FOMO get the better of you.

Do a maximum of 2 Activities/day: Don’t book yourself for more than 2 activities in a day. You probably don’t want to feel like you have a time-table to follow. Don’t try and cram in too much, without giving yourself any breathing space.

Important Travel Resources

Packing list: what to carry and what not to carry.

We’re not going to bore you with every little thing but we’ll give you a list of island-relevant things that shouldn’t be missing in your packing list.

What to Carry:

how much andaman trip cost

Necessaries:

What you don’t need: .

A lot of people wonder if their Indian sim cards will work on the Andamans and the answer is: yes, it will! We have three main service providers here: Airtel, Vodafone and BSNL. So, if you’re with any one of them, you don’t have to worry about getting a new sim card when you land or getting an international sim card before you depart. BSNL and Airtel are your best bet. If you’re not with any of them, you could get one before you arrive and it’ll work just fine.

Cash or Card?

Although we do have ATMs everywhere in Port Blair and we have a couple in Havelock & Neil and most places do accept card payments, it’ll still be prudent to carry some amount in cash. You may need it for smaller eateries, roadside vendors, to pay for some activities and such. An all-card approach is definitely not advisable. At all times, keep at-least Rs. 5000 in hand which can be replenished at an ATM when it runs out.

Calling it a (holi)day

We’ve covered lots of little bits to get you going and this blog should serve as a gentle guidance for your Andaman Vacation Plan.

And with that we’re going to sign-off. Here’s hoping that all of these pointers help you in building the ultimate plan for an unforgettable holiday!

We’re a small crew of locals and Andaman-lovers helping you make the most of your trip to the Andamans.

You can build your holiday from the ground-up, exactly how you like. We’ve personally verified each experience, so you know that they’re tried, tested and true!

We visited Andaman in February 2021. The weather was pleasant and less humid. All water activities were open for tourists.

Budget for a 7 days 6 Nights Trip to Andaman

Accommodation.

We stayed for 3 Nights in Harriet View B&B in Port Blair, 2 nights in Blue Bird Resort in Havelock Island & 1 night in Laxmi Residency Resort in Neil Island.

Harriet View B&B in Port Blair and Blue Bird Resort in Havelock Island range in between INR 4000–6000 per day and Laxmi Residency Resort range in between INR 2000 – 3000 per day depending on the season.

So, for a 7 days 6 nights trip to Andaman, expect to spend around INR 25000 (for two people) on accommodation if you choose your stays in the similar range.

If you are on budget, you can book your stays online in the range of INR 2000 – INR 3000 per day. For good price of a property, prebook your stays at least 2 months in advance.

You can hire a taxi or rent a bike/scooty for roaming around in Andaman. We hired a scooty at every destination in Andaman. Renting a scooty cost around INR 500 (depends on the season as well) per day plus the fuel cost.

Also, ferry is the only way to travel to and fro Port Blair, Havelock Island and Neil Island. Government ferry cost around INR 650 per person and private ferry INR 1200 – 1500 per person. In total 3 ferry rides are required if you are visiting Havelock and Neil Island.

So, for 7 days expect to spend around INR 6500 – 8000 (for two people) for private ferry and INR 4000 for Government ferry.

If you are on a budget, you can easily get a vegetarian Thali in INR 150 – 250 per person in Andaman. And if you are a foodie and love exploring cafes/ restaurants, expect to spend around INR 1000 per meal for two people.

We had the breakfast included in the package of our hotels.

So, for 7 days, expect to spend around INR 6000 – 9000 (for two people) on food in Andaman.

There are plenty of water activities in Andaman. We did Jet Skiing in Portblair, SCUBA, Sea Walk, Kayaking and Snorkeling in Havelock Island and Snorkeling in Neil Island. The cost of these activities(per person) are as under:-

Jet Skiing – INR 600

SCUBA Diving – INR 3500 to 6500

Snorkelling in Havelock Island – INR 1000 (plus underwater camera charges)

Snorkelling in Neil Island – INR 1500

SEA Walk in Havelock Island – INR 3500

Kayaking in Havelock Island – INR 4000

Water park in Portblair – INR 600

So, expect to spend around INR 15K to 20K (per person) if you choose to do the activities that we did. You can also skip any of these or add more depending on your budget.

Booking a ferry in Andaman

Sea ferry is the only way to travel in between islands in Andaman. There are two kind of ferries, Government Ferry and Private Ferry. Private ferries are booked online.

For booking Government ferry, you have to fill a form and submit it in DC office, a day prior to your visit. The forms and details are available with the accommodations.

We used Government ferries to travel from Port Blair to Havelock Island, Havelock Island to Neil Island and from Neil Island to Port Blair.

Reach out to your place of stay in Port Blair, Havelock Island and Neil Island for booking ferries.

Q. how much does an andaman trip cost.

Ans. There are many Andaman tour packages available online at different prices for travellers. You have to choose as per your budget and preferences. For example, a 5-night and 6-day package will cost you around ₹ 45,118 to ₹ 51,970 per person. If you choose a smaller package of 3 nights and 4 days, then you may have to pay approximately ₹ 34,421 per person. A longer package of 6 nights and 7 days may require anywhere around ₹ 74,350 per person. You can also customise your itinerary, depending on your budget and other needs.

Q. Which is the best month to visit the Andamans?

Ans. If you are considering booking Andaman tour packages anytime soon, then you must plan your visit between October and May. This season is preferred by tourists for the lovely weather conditions that make it easier to go sightseeing, lounge on the beach and indulge in water sports and other adventure activities. The off-season for tourists in the region is the stretch between July and September. Visiting during these months is not advisable due to the heavy rainfall, gusty winds and the tidal waves.

Q. Can Andaman be covered in 4 days?

Ans. You will find many Andaman tour packages for four days that give you a feel of its most mesmerising islands. You can explore Havelock Island along with Port Blair. These will be your major stops along with Ross Island. You can also replace Ross Island with the North Bay if you want, or even consider the Elephant Beach if you are a watersports enthusiast. If you are looking at maximising your time in the region, then you may add Neil Island to your itinerary for a quick jaunt.

Q. Can you drink alcohol in the Andamans?

Ans. Many people booking Andaman tour packages often have queries about liquor-related restrictions on the islands. If you are one of them, then you must know that you can drink alcohol in Andaman. There are many liquor stores owned by the Government that retail  various IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) brands. Andaman is not a typical nightlife destination and is known more for its tranquillity. Yet, Port Blair and Havelock Island do have some exciting bars and pubs that you can visit.

Q. Is Andaman costlier than Goa?

Ans. Wondering if Andaman tour packages are more expensive than Goa holidays? This is a question posed by many travellers. Here are some factors that you should keep in mind in this regard: Andaman is only accessible via flights since going by car is impossible. Plane fares for Andaman are only affordable during the low season, which brings its own share of difficulties. Goa is naturally more affordable than Andaman in terms of flight ticket costs throughout the year. Goa has accommodation options that cater to almost every budget, while liquor and food costs are also quite cheap. Goa is also accessible by car for road trips. Andaman has costlier plane tickets, while accommodation options may sometimes be more expensive too. However, there are still quite a few reasonable options available. Food is relatively affordable in Andaman, although liquor prices may be costlier. Taking everything into account, Goa is a cheaper destination to visit than Andaman. However, nothing can take away the spectacular beauty of the latter.

Q. What to pack for an Andaman trip?

Ans. If you have already booked your Andaman tour packages, then you should plan out your packing list carefully. These are the clothing items that you should carry for your trip: Cotton clothing including t-shirts and tops. Sarongs and summer dresses. Pants and shorts that are comfortable and breathable. Bathing suits and swimwear. Board shorts and light shirts. Sunglasses are a must for your Andaman trip. A cap or hat to shield you from the sun rays.

Q. Do phones work in the Andamans?

Ans. Booked Andaman tour packages already? You should now know about other important details. Worried about cell phone connectivity in the region? Fret not; Port Blair offers decent mobile network connectivity with good BSNL and Airtel coverage throughout the entire city. SIM cards of these two carriers will also work without any hassles in Havelock Island and some other areas like Neil Island. However, there may be some islands and remote areas where you may not always get a signal.

Q. Which island is banned on the Andamans?

Ans. North Sentinel Island is never included in Andaman tour packages. It is banned  for tourists in the region. The Sentinelese, who live here are an indigenous community who have isolated themselves by choice. They are also aggressive while safeguarding their island from the rest of the world. The Government has already classified the island as a prohibited destination for travelling within 5.6 kilometres of the same, while also calling it a tribal reserve. The community wishes to remain protected from any possible infectious ailments coming from mainland travellers since they do not have any immunity against the same. The Indian Navy patrols the entire stretch.

Q. How much does scuba diving cost in the Andamans?

Ans. You can include scuba diving in your itinerary while booking Andaman tour packages. The costs for scuba diving are approximately the following: Shore Diving for the North Bay Island- ₹ 3,100. Shore Diving for Havelock Island- ₹ 3,300. Boat Diving for Havelock Island- ₹ 4,999. Boat Diving for Neil Island- ₹ 5,000.

Q. What is the famous food in Andaman?

Ans.  While checking out Andaman tour packages, make sure you plan your itinerary in a way where you can try delicious local cuisine in the region. Most people consume coconut, rice, seafood and spices. Andaman offers tasty crabs, cuttlefish, prawns and lobster, along with the famous Red Snapper. You will also find numerous vegetarian options along with a blend of Bengali, Andhra and Kerala cuisine. North Indian delights like Mughlai, Parathas and Naan are also available in the Andamans. Some of the top restaurants worth trying here include Full  Moon Café- Try the delicious seafood at this restaurant in Havelock Island near Beach Number 5. Annapurna Restaurant- This is a great restaurant for trying vegetarian dishes with a mix of Indian and Chinese culinary styles. New Lighthouse Restaurant- The ambience here is delightful with proximity to the Marina Park at Port Blair. You should not miss the grilled lobsters and fish at this open-air eatery.

Q. What can we do in Andaman in 5 days?

Ans. You can cover all the main attractions of the Andamans in 5 days. Here is a suggested plan for your Andaman trip in 5 days, giving a good mix of leisure and Andaman sightseeing: Day 1: Arrive in Port Blair by flight. Visit Cellular Jail for the Light and Sound Show and go for a Dinner Cruise at night. Day 2: Ferry to Havelock Island (also known as Swaraj Dweep). Visit the famous Radhanagar Beach and enjoy the sunset  here. Day 3: Ferry to Neil Island (also known as Shaheed Dweep). Explore the beautiful beaches of Neil Island and enjoy water sports. Day 4: Return to Port Blair, and if you have time, visit either Ross Island or Chidiya Tapu Beach. Alternatively, visit the Corbyn’s Cove beach in the evening. Day 5: Morning museum visit or shopping and leave for the airport!

Q. Is a passport required for Andaman?

Ans. Indians do not need a passport to visit the Andaman Islands as they are a part of the Indian nation. However, if you are a foreigner , or NRI/OCI Card holder, then please remember to carry your passport since you will need to clear Immigration at Port Blair airport and also take a Restricted Area Permit (RAP).

Q. What is the best month to visit Andaman?

Ans. While you can visit Andaman nearly any time of the year, if you wish to avoid the monsoon rains then you can travel during the months of September to May.

Q. How many days are enough for Andaman?

Ans. If you wish to cover all three main destinations within Andaman (Port Blair, Havelock and Neil Island) properly, then we recommend a trip of 5 to 6 days. For travellers wishing to also explore other Andaman places like Baratang Island, or spend more time on activities like scuba diving, a trip of 6 to 8 days is recommended.

Q. Can I go to Andaman by cruise?

Ans. It is possible to travel to Andaman by ship from Chennai and Kolkata, but it is a long and inconvenient journey of multiple days. We would suggest a flight to Port Blair as the best way to reach Andaman.

There are hundreds of providers in all around India offering Tour Packages to Andaman in Budget, while it’s also true that, most of them have never visited Andaman themselves.

Are you really paying the best price for your Andaman tour? Or are you getting duped with referrers, affiliates and secondary reseller agents?

First of all, like every other destination, some of the tourist places in Andaman and Nicobar is cheaper to visit and some who cost almost double the price of travel.

Knowing which places come under your budget, will help you decide your package faster. Follow the below information to find out:

Best places to add on your package when traveling in under budget:

Here are some of the best places in Andaman you can visit without having to exceed your budget.

These places are sorted based on beauty and cost of traveling:

Port Blair:

Port Blair, Budget Destination in Andaman

This is simple. Port Blair is where you will arrive and this is where you will start your trip, so there will be no additional ferry or cruise charge to explore this place.

So, this is one of the best places to add to your itinerary.

There are several attractions in Port Blair which are relatively cheaper than other which include:

  • Corbyn’s Cove Beach
  • Cellular Jail with Light and Sound Show
  • Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex
  • Chatham Saw Mill
  • Samudrika, Anthropological, Fisheries Museums.

These are some other places, which are a bit expensive to visit, because of the transportation charges:

  • Wandoor Beach
  • Chidiya tapu and Mundapahar Beach

North Bay is a haven for water sports in Andaman and is really close to Port Blair which means the transportation charges are less and can be added to your budget package, without second thoughts.

North Bay- perfect for a budget trip to Andaman

The complete round trip to the place can cost a few hundred rupees, and the bonus is that you can also include Ross Island on this trip to get around 30% extra off on the trip.

One more thing to add is that, there are no hotels in North Bay which means you’ll have to stay in Port Blair, and this is actually good, I’ll explain it later as we move on.

Ross Island:

Ross Island in Andaman

Another great place, loved by tourists which is really closer to Port Blair is Ross Island , in fact, it is easily visible from the water sports complex.

The trip to Ross is under everyone’s budget as the ticket costs are low and there are a lot of boats available to visit here. Adding North Bay together with this on the same day will help you save more on a round trip easily.

Havelock Island:

Havelock, Radhanagar Beach

Havelock is one of the top-rated places in India and must be on your visit list. Although the charges for cruise and hotels can make the trip a bit expensive, it is totally worth it.

The main issue lies here is the hotel charges. Havelock is flocked with a lot of tourists and therefore, the pricing for rooms can get really high sometimes, reaching around 25-K during season.

If you’d like to save more on your trip, you can opt not to stay in Havelock Island , and return to Port Blair after sightseeing.

Here is the list of places that are relatively cheaper to visit in Havelock:

  • Radhanagar Beach
  • Kalapathar Beach

These are the places that are a bit expensive, due to additional boat and travel charges:

  • Elephant Beach

This is because, the Elephant Beached has to be reached by a boat ride and can cost around a thousand rupees to reach there.

The beach is famous for water sports but, the pricing for water sports is higher here due to demand. If you’d really like to do water sports, you can opt for North Bay, which has the same variety of activities, at the lowest pricing in Andamans.

One more thing is that, the trip to the beach takes one whole day, and if you are looking to add it to your Budget Package, then a day’s stay in Andaman would be required.

Neil Island:

Neil island on a budget

Neil Island can be a great place to visit on your trip and besides the cruise cost, there isn’t much to it, so you can easily add it to your budget tour package.

The island is small and cabs can be hired or bikes can be rented easily to explore the place. Make sure to pre-book everything because public transports are very less.

Also, hotels in Neil island can add up easily so make sure to either return back to Port Blair or research thoroughly.

Places that can get a bit expensive:

  • Red Skin Island

‍ Which hotels to choose for a budget tour?

Choosing a hotel in Port Blair will help you save more on your trip because there are a lot of hotels here and the pricing is competitive, unlike Havelock, which at times seems unfair for the tariff they charge for some people.

Whether you are planning a trip to Havelock, Neil Island or any other island, returning to Port Blair in the evening will save you more money, even if we include the cruise charges.

Budget Hotel in Andaman

But for most of the people, the trip is not complete without staying at the island, and therefore we recommend staying for at least one day in Havelock.

Now, we won’t leave you there, as we have selected the best hotels in Andaman for you.

Best hotels in Andaman under budget:

There are a lot of hotels in Andaman from cheap ones to exceedingly expensive. But there are only a few that offer superior value for money, for the stay they provide.

The hotels contained in this list have proven to be the best at the price range, make sure to select one of them to add to your budget package to Andaman.

There are a lot of hotels and resorts in Port Blair that gives you a myriad of choices ranging from Rs. 1500-3500 in the budget category. We will list only the best in the series that we like them. These hotels are in Port Blair and located close to either the main city or the airport so you can save more on cabs and other transportation.

  • Hotel Gaj International
  • Hotel Marina Manor
  • Hotel Shine View
  • Andaman Residency
  • Hotel Marine View
  • SL International
  • Hotel Adarsh
  • Vedant Residency

These are the best hotels in Havelock sorted according to budget. If you’d like to stay in Havelock, make sure to add one of them to your tour package.

  • Aurora Beach Resort
  • Green Valley Beach Resort
  • V Knot residency
  • Gold India Beach Resort
  • Gold Star Beach resort

These are the best rated and verified hotel in the Neil Island. Although, not staying in Neil Island is what we usually recommend as it is a small island that can be explored in a day, you can opt for these if you are planning to stay there. To find the cheapest hotels, Bharatpur beach is the best spot, because there are lots of them who offer great prices and you can also visit the beach whenever you like.

Here are some of the good ones:

  • Coco-n-huts beach resort
  • Hotel Amulya
  • Blue stone Lodge
  • Hotel Kingfisher

Top budget activities you can add to your tour package:

how much andaman trip cost

Snorkeling:

Snorkeling is one of the most famous sports in Andaman, which also comes at a fair price, so you can easily add it to you budget tour package in Andaman. The activity can be done on specific beaches only. The most famous ones being the North Bay Beach and the Elephant Beach.

The pricing of snorkeling is the cheapest at North Bay, closely followed by Elephant Beach, but as discussed earlier, reaching elephant beach can cost a bit extra.

Jet Skiing:

Jet skiing delivers the rush and splashes and is an activity that can be done by anyone. It is available on various islands in Andaman including Port Blair, Havelock Island, Neil Island and North Bay. Learn more about it here .

If you looking to find the cheapest jet skiing here, you can do this activity at the water sports complex in Port Blair, next best selection would be North bay, closely followed by Elephant Beach.

Banana Ride:

Banana Ride is best enjoyed with the whole family and is one of the top-rated casual water sports in Andaman. The ride takes you to the sea to explore, splash, and fall from the banana, which refreshes you and gives the rush.

The best place to do it in budget would be the water sports complex in Port Blair, followed by North Bay and then the Elephant Beach.

Sofa ride takes you on an adventure to the sea and lets you ride the waves, powered by a speed boat. The ride can be either done with the whole family or couples and is recommended for people who’d like to do something different this vacation.

This activity is only available at North Bay which is good because the pricing is the lowest at this destination.

Glass Bottom Boats:

Glass Bottom Boat rides lets you experience the under water world without having to go through the trouble of going into the water.

As the name suggests, the boat has a magnifying see through glass at its bottom that lets you see through the waters and explore the fishes and other marine life inside.

Now, there are 2 types of glass bottom boats present in Andaman, which offer different rates.

The normal glass boat is priced at Rs.400/- on average while the more advanced, Dolphin Glass Bottom Boat is priced at Rs. 1500/- and delivers a premium viewing experience.

Sofa ride can be found at the best price in the Water Sports Complex, closely followed by North Bay Island and then the Bharatpur Beach in the Neil Island and finally Elephant Beach at Havelock Island.

‍ How cheap can a budget vacation to Andaman get?

Andaman can be fairly expensive to travel because there are lesser number of cabs and no Uber or Ola is present here currently. The only way to travel is by either public transportation or pre-booked cabs. Although public transportation is relatively cheaper, it can be a hassle to keep track of timings. This is the reason why most people prefer to travel with pre-booked cabs.

Can’t I just book a cab after getting here?

Yes you can, but pre-booking helps you save more as cabs on the spot can charge you more for the day because they are independent.

Coming to the question, our packages start form Rs. 3400/-which is the cheapest in Andaman by far.

The pricing depends mainly on the number on islands you will visit and the hotels at that particular island.

Hotels at some islands are more expensive than others as discussed above, which can add to the total trip cost.

Moreover, the transportation can also add up if you choose cruise instead of Government Ferry. We put cruises on all our tours because it offers a comfortable travel experience and the ferry is usually reserved for the islanders.

Is it necessary to get a tour package to Andamans?

Although it is not necessary, it is recommended. Not because we are trying to sell you a tour, but because last minute change of ferry timings, closing of attractions due to bad weather, ticket demands, cab availability, attraction closed on specific days of the week and much more, are a common thing in the islands.

There are lots of variables when you plan a vacation here, which is hard to keep track of.

We are sure you can handle the planning really well, but make sure to keep everything in check before visiting here. To learn more about planning a trip to Andaman by yourself, you can read this article .

How much should be my budget for Andaman Nicobar Trip?

The packaged budget vacations listed here are the lowest you can go while on your trip, without excluding any destination in a given island. Now that's out of the way, the trip cost will depend for the number of days you are visiting. Here is the list that shows our lowest day wise tour cost.

  • 2 Nights and 3 Days: 3300
  • 3 Nights and 4 Days: 8150
  • 4 Nights and 5 Days: 9,300
  • 5 Nights and 6 Days: 14,800
  • 6 Nights and 7 Days: 18,490
  • 7 Nights and 8 Days: 19,850

These are atleast 30% lower than OTA's and travel agencies because you will be getting a tour directly from us (Tour Operators), hence no additional costs or fees is added to the trip. Moreover, the tour will be same or in most cases, better than OTA's because no matter where you get the package from, you will be touring with locals only, as they are the ones present in Andaman.

We are proud of having the lowest rates in Andaman without sacrificing tour quality, by removing destinations from the package, like most operators do.

You can simply fill the form below and request a free quote to check it out.

Will I save more by traveling myself to Andaman or by getting a tour package?

For this you will have to take into consideration several factors. Independent cabs can get expensive in Andamans when compared to a DMC because we operate with fixed schedules and have proper list of places to visit.

Moreover, relations with cruises, and hotels all throughout Andamans helps us get the actual best pricing for them, that isn’t available any where else.

You can probably save more if planned correctly but collectively a package takes into consideration, all of your needs and comes as bundle with proper discounts, so you can save more.

Check for these while getting a tour from any agency:

  • Make sure the travel agent is not a reseller and is an actual DMC in Andamans.
  • Check to see I they are registered with the A&N administration. Genuine DMC’s always provide a copy of their registration when asked for.
  • Check for genuine reviews on Google to see if they are a good fit for you.
  • Ask for transparent pricing, and a breakup of all costs incurred during your trip.
  • Beware of fraud. Over the years, we have seen that, several websites sell Andaman Islands, by using images of other destinations, which we think is highly unethical.

Plan your Andaman trip under budget:

GUARANTEED LOWEST PRICE or WE WILL REFUND THE DIFFERENCE. Add your requirements below and we will design a custom tour for you and your family.

Thank you! Your submission has been received! We will call you in a short while to discuss about your trip. Our planners are advised not to push and force any sales talk, so feel free to ask anything. Please keep your phone with you, Eternal Andamans only calls twice for every inquiry.

How Much Money Should You Give for a Wedding Gift?

Find out how much Americans typically spend on cash wedding gifts, then decide how much you want to give.

Cash Wedding Gift Guidelines for 2024

Dollar banknotes and two golden wedding rings

Cash is often king when it comes to wedding gifts.

Key Takeaways:

  • Wedding experts advise starting cash giving at $100.
  • You may want to adjust up to $500 based on factors such as your relationship with the couple, your budget and the cost of your attendance at the wedding.
  • If your budget is really tight, you may want to consider buying a gift from the registry instead.

The amount of money you should give as a wedding gift depends on a range of factors, including your budget, your relationship with the bride and groom and the cost of attending the wedding.

Cash is often king when it comes to wedding gifts. Gone are the days when guests arrive with beautifully wrapped boxes containing gifts they picked from the department store registry, Nichol Burton, founder of Confetti Creator, said in an email.

"While wedding registries have gone digital and any tangible items are typically shipped straight to the couple's residence, one gift remains the same – cash," she said.

Cash can help newlyweds afford some of their top priorities, such as going on a honeymoon or paying off wedding bills.

But how much should you give if you decide to gift cash? Here's what the wedding experts have to say.

While the amount you should gift a couple depends on a number of factors, the latest available data from The Knot reveals that U.S. wedding guests spent an average of $160 on a gift in 2021. Adjust that for inflation and you're looking at about $187 in 2023.

"It's common to give anywhere from $100 to $1,000. I often see the card box on the gift table oozing with overstuffed envelopes," Burton said.

"As a bride myself, I received one $1,000 check. However, this was from an uncle who is well off . For the rest of us, a range between $100 to $500 per guest is considerate," she added.

Factors to Consider When Deciding How Much to Give

Here are four main factors to consider when determining the size of your wedding gift:

1. Your Relationship With the Couple

Your relationship with the bride and groom should factor into how much you gift them. Generally speaking, the closer you are to one or both people, the more you should give.

For example, if you're attending your brother's wedding, you'd likely give a larger amount than if you were attending a colleague's.

"The exact amount might depend on the relationship the guest has with the couple but it shouldn't be any less than $100," Dustin Sitar, managing editor of The Groom Club magazine, said in an email.

2. Your Budget

Your budget should also play into your decision. Run the numbers to see how much you can afford.

"If you have more to spend, then a greater sum would be appropriate. However, if you are on a limited budget , smaller amounts should be expected," Carissa Kruse, a wedding planner and the founder of Carissa Kruse Weddings, said in an email.

If your budget is really tight, you may want to consider buying a gift instead of giving cash.

"Attending a wedding might require a significant cost for a family, leaving minimal funds for a cash gift," Karen Riley-Love, owner of AMI Beach Weddings, said in an email. "In that case, I suggest purchasing an item from the registry as a family gift, and they will think fondly of your family each time they use the present."

3. Your Role in the Wedding

Another factor to consider is if you've gifted your time, energy or money leading up to the wedding.

Did you, for example, plan the bridal shower, organize the bachelor or bachelorette party, do the makeup for the bridal party, or something similar? If so, the amount you give may be lower because you made other investments in the couple's big day.

4. The Cost of Your Attendance at the Wedding

Traditional etiquette says that your wedding gift should be at least enough to cover your attendance at the wedding.

While the average cost per wedding guest in 2023 was $304 according to The Knot 2023 Real Weddings Study , a better starting point might be to think about the cost of your meal at the reception.

"Gifting the amount that the couple paid for your meal should be the bare minimum. Say it's a catered barbecue buffet – the couple likely paid $50 to $100 per person for catering alone. So, if you brought a plus-one, you should be leaving anywhere from $100 to $200 in that envelope. Using those calculations as your base will help set a minimum," Burton said.

There Is No Rule Regarding Cash Gifts

Bottom line: There's no hard-and-fast rule on how much cash to give as a wedding gift. Wedding experts advise starting at $100. From there, you may want to adjust up to $500 based on factors such as your relationship with the couple, your budget and the cost of your attendance at the wedding.

What you should know before you set sail

Reservations are required to board the ferry. Passengers can reserve a spot by booking online or calling customer service during normal hours.

Reservations require the length of your vehicle if it is not a standard car, truck or van; the number of passengers including the driver; and your credit card number. An email and phone number will be noted for contact in case of booking changes or other issues.

Check-in begins 45 minutes to one hour before departure, and reservations may be forfeited if check-in is not completed 30 minutes prior to scheduled departure. Stand-by tickets will be available at this time.

Bookings can be rescheduled free of charge, but if canceled, a nonrefundable cancelation fee of $6 per one-way and $12 per round-trip booking will be imposed. No-shows will result in the cancelation of the crossing and a non-refundable no-show fee of $26 will be charged.

Paid, unused reservations may be applied to future trips, with some restrictions. Ferry tickets are valid for two years from the date of purchase.

Cape May-Lewes Ferry restrictions

Before you board, make sure you have all needed items and none of the restricted ones.

A government-issued photo ID is required for all drivers and foot passengers over 14 years old. Foreign travelers must present a valid passport or international driver’s license.

Children under age 14 must be accompanied by someone at least 14, and that person must present a school ID, passport state ID or driver's license. A maximum of two children between the ages of 2 and 13 can travel with an unaccompanied passenger between 14 and 18 years old.

Passengers are prohibited from bringing opened alcoholic beverages on or off the ferry by Delaware and New Jersey law. Alcoholic beverages sold on each vessel and or in each terminal must be discarded before boarding or disembarking. Unopened beverages are allowed but must be kept stored.

The ferry and its terminals and surrounding areas have been tobacco-free since 2017. No smoking or other forms of tobacco are allowed. This includes vaping, cigarettes, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco or smoking-related products.

Pets are permitted on the ferry but must stay on outside decks or in vehicles. Passengers with pets cannot bring them inside the cabin near food areas. If restroom or food court facilities are needed, contact a crew member for assistance.

The Cape May-Lewes Ferry notes that “pets must be sociable when on passenger decks and remain on a leash or in an appropriate carrier,” or the owner will be asked to return the pet to the vehicle. All vehicles with pet passengers must have the windows open for air.

Is parking available at the terminals?

Parking is available for free at both the Cape May and Lewes terminals.

Cars can be left in the ferry parking lot overnight as long as license plate numbers are registered at the ticket counter in the terminal or with the police after hours in the police building in either city.

There is no winter shuttle to Cape May, but seasonal shuttles are available. In Lewes, the DART Route 204 bus picks up and drops off in front of the Lewes terminal.

Ferry amenities

The ferries have various amenities including internet service and food and drink options available for passengers.

The Lewes Terminal features Grain on the Rocks, a great dinner option once you complete your round trip, while the Cape May Terminal has Café 64 in colder months and more dining options from Exit 0 in season.

Ferry vessels have indoor and outdoor seating, along with elevators to help get between decks. Table, bench seating and reclining seats are available indoors. Adirondack chairs, wooden benches, Lido Bar seating and metal chairs and tables are available outdoors.

What to do in Lewes

In Lewes, there are plenty of shops, historic sites and nature views to enjoy and lots of places to eat your way through.

A bike trail is across the street from the ferry terminal and local eateries such as Grain On the Rocks and Crooked Hammock Brewery are nearby.

Local beaches are a short drive or bike ride away, and seasonal events and beer rides are always on tap.

What to do in Cape May

While in Cape May , you can visit Cape May Point State Park, the Cape May Lighthouse, Washington Street Mall, the Lobster House, Cape May Brewery, Beach Plum Farm and much more.

Cape May (and Lewes) have electric bikes available for rental during your trip that can help expand your exploration of the area and give you a workout!

More Cape May area attractions include the Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation, Cape May County Park and Zoo, Willow Creek Winery and Farm, Emlen Physick Estate (a historic Victorian house and museum) and many annual events.

Cape May-Lewes Ferry upgrades

The Cape May-Lewes Ferry has been running since its first voyage on July 1, 1964.

The ferry has three vessels, with a capacity of 100 vehicles and about 800 people each, each the length of a football field.

Although the ferry has been improved throughout the years, the Delaware River and Bay Authority announced in 2023 that the current vessels are set to retire as a new fleet awaits the water.

The proposed fleet will have four vessels that are smaller than the ferry’s current boats. Each new vessel will have a capacity of 75 vehicles and about 330 passengers each, according to a spokesperson for the Delaware River and Bay Authority.

Although the new boats will be smaller, a fourth vessel will allow for greater schedule flexibility. The Delaware River and Bay Authority expects the new fleet to be more environmentally friendly, meet or beat the current total trip times and improve customer and crew amenities.

The $320 million project will be completed in phases, with the first new vessel expected to arrive in late 2026. Plans have not been finalized yet, but a public information session was held last June that considered vessel profile options, discussed plans and reviewed the project timeline.

The three most recent design layouts were voted on by attendees, with profile B coming out as the winner. Profile C was a close second, followed by profile A. More information about the master plan and profile options can be found on www.cmlf.com/marine-master-plan.

How to get a certified copy of a death certificate

Many organizations require a certified copy of the death certificate when someone dies. How you get copies depends on whether the person died in the U.S. or abroad.

Death in the U.S.: how to get a certified copy of a death certificate

Contact the vital records office of the state where the death occurred to learn:

  • How to order a certified copy of a death certificate online, by mail, or in-person
  • How to get a copy fast
  • The cost for each certified copy

Can anyone get a copy of a death certificate?

Only certain family members may be able to obtain a death certificate when someone dies. This includes a spouse, siblings, and children. But death certificates can be requested by anyone when they become public record. In some states, death certificates are released 25 or more years after death. Check with your state’s vital records office to find out when death certificates become public record.

When to use a certified copy or a photocopy

You will need to purchase a certified copy of the death certificate for tasks such as:

  • Notifying the Social Security Administration and other government agencies
  • Closing or transferring credit cards and bank accounts
  • Claiming a person's life insurance or pension

You may only need a photocopy for other tasks, such as canceling a subscription. Check with the agency or organization handling each account.

How Much Does an Air Conditioner Really Cost to Install? What to Know

T he average air conditioner cost ranges from about $2,500 to $7,500, depending on the size of the system, the type of air conditioner, the efficiency rating, and several other cost factors. Use this guide to find out more about air conditioner cost factors that can impact the price of this home upgrade.

Type of Air Conditioner

The cost of an air conditioner can range significantly depending on the type of air conditioner . Investing in an air conditioner that is too small will only result in a costly purchase and minimal cooling, while installing an air conditioner that is too large will cost more than necessary.

  • Portable air conditioning units cost about $100 to $500 to purchase without installation and about $600 if installation is included. These small units are good for apartments, condos, and small homes.
  • Window air conditioning units are commonly used to help keep small- to medium-size homes cool during the warmer months of the year. This type of air conditioner costs about $1,300 including professional installation, or about $150 to $800 without the installation costs.
  • Central air conditioning is another common choice and may be installed in apartment buildings or condo buildings as well as homes. This type of air conditioner works with the existing HVAC system to direct cool air throughout the home. Central AC will cost about $2,500 to $4,500 for the appliance and materials, or about $6,000 to purchase the appliance and have it professionally installed.
  • Ductless split systems cost a bit less than central air conditioners, ranging from about $2,000 to $3,000 for the unit, and about $4,000 if you include the cost of professional installation. The main difference between a ductless split system and a central AC system is that ductless systems do not rely on ductwork. Instead, the outdoor unit connects directly to an indoor, wall-mounted unit to cool the space directly, so they're better for smaller homes.
  • Geothermal air conditioning is the most expensive option, but a geothermal system can be used for both heating and cooling. The system works by absorbing heat from the home and releasing it into the ground to cool the home. During the colder months of the year, it absorbs heat from deep in the ground to help heat the home. This type of system costs about $4,200 to $12,000 to purchase and about $24,000 when the cost of the installation is included.

Air Conditioner Installation Cost Factors

Air conditioner size.

Size in this context does not refer to the actual measurements of the air conditioner, but instead it refers to the cooling power of the appliance . Air conditioner cooling power is measured in tons or British Thermal Units (BTUs), with one ton of cooling capacity equal to about 12,000 BTUs. The more powerful the air conditioner, the higher the cost of the unit.

Air Conditioner Efficiency

The more efficient the unit, the lower the operating costs. However, more efficient air conditioners will also typically come with a higher initial cost, so it's a good idea to shop around to find a model that both fits the budget and is efficient.

Air conditioners have an efficiency rating system known as SEER (seasonal energy efficiency ratio). The higher the rating, the more efficient the air conditioner. New air conditioner units should have a minimum SEER rating of 13 to 15 depending on local regulations. Though top-efficiency models can reach up to 24 on the SEER rating, indicating a very high efficiency output.

  • SEER 13 to 14 : $3,200
  • SEER 15 to 16 : $4,600
  • SEER 17 to 18 : $4,700
  • SEER 19 to 21 : $6,900
  • SEER 22 to 24 : $7,700

Air Conditioner Brand

Common air conditioner brands include Aire-Flo, American Standard, Carrier, Lennox, York, and Frigidaire. Expect to pay about $1,700 on average for a standard Aire-Flo AC unit, while a Lennox air conditioner will cost about $3,400. Similarly, American Standard and Carrier air conditioners cost about $3,200. Trane AC units cost a bit more at $3,300, while Frigidaire air conditioners cost a bit less, at $2,900. If you are looking for a bargain, go with a Goodman AC unit that costs about $2,100, or invest a little more for a $2,800 York air conditioner.

Only central air conditioners and geothermal AC units need ductwork to function properly, so there is a chance you may not have the proper ductwork for a new air conditioner. If this is the case, then you will need to pay about $500 to $2,100 to install the necessary ducts and vents for the system. This work can usually be completed by the air conditioner installers, though some HVAC companies may have separate workers who will come in to install the ducts.

If you're handling the air conditioner installation as a DIY project, then there is no labor cost associated with this job. However, if you have decided to hire a professional HVAC company to complete this work, then you'll need to pay for the unit, installation materials, and labor.

Typically, the labor cost to install a new air conditioner without installing updated ductwork ranges from about $1,250 to $3,000. If the home requires new ductwork or the existing ductwork needs to be repaired or replaced, then the cost of labor increases to about $2,215 to $5,325.

Cost of Related Services

Maintenance and repairs.

An air conditioner will typically last about 15 to 20 years, so if the air conditioner hasn't even reached the 10-year mark, then there is a good chance that it will last another 10 years with proper maintenance and repairs. Plan to spend about $390 to have the air conditioner inspected and repaired.

Plumbing and Electrical Work

Air conditioners will usually require some type of electrical connection to function. Additionally, some air conditioners will need plumbing for proper drainage. You will need to pay about $100 to $150 for a plumber to install or repair the drain lines, while an electrician will typically charge about $100 to $150 to add a dedicated circuit to the electrical panel for the AC system.

Old Air Conditioner Removal and Disposal

When the home has an existing air conditioner, the homeowner will need to remove the old air conditioner before the new one can be installed. Some HVAC companies will handle this part of the job for free, though they may charge a disposal fee. Typically, it will cost between $25 to $2000 to have the old air conditioner professionally removed and disposed .

Permits and Warranties

Replacing an air conditioner unit may require a permit depending on the local permitting requirements. Typically, it will cost about $100 to $250 for an air conditioner replacement permit, while a permit to install a new air conditioner and ductwork can cost $250 to $1,500. Given the amount you are investing in a new air conditioner, it's worth considering paying a bit more to get an extended warranty for the product. Expect to pay between $100 to $500 for a reliable extended product warranty.

Zoning System

A zoning system will better allow for large homes to minimize the required air conditioner size, while ensuring that each zone in the home is kept at a comfortable temperature. However, adding a zoning system will cost between $1,700 to $4,500 on top of the initial cost to purchase and install the air conditioner.

DIY vs. Professional Air Conditioner Installation

DIY installation may be a viable option, depending on the type of air conditioner and the experience of the DIYer. For instance, most DIYers will be able to install a portable or window air conditioner without relying on help from a professional HVAC company. Some highly experienced DIYers may even be able to install a ductless split air conditioner, saving an average of $500 to $2,500 on labor.

However, you will likely need to hire an HVAC crew to install a central air conditioner or geothermal air conditioner due to the complexity of these systems. The pros will have the right tools, equipment, and experience to tackle this type of job. Additionally, trained and experienced HVAC technicians should be able to complete this installation faster and with less issues than the average DIYer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size air conditioner do I need for a 2000 sq ft house?

For a 2,000 square foot home, you should invest in an air conditioner that can remove about three tons or about 36,000 BTUs of heat per hour. Just keep in mind that the larger the air conditioner, the higher the cost.

Should I replace my 20 year old air conditioner?

Given that an air conditioner will typically last about 15 to 20 years, there is a high chance that a 20 year old air conditioner is not working efficiently. With this in mind, it's a good idea to replace a 20 year old air conditioner with a more efficient model.

What is the average lifespan of an AC?

An air conditioner has an average lifespan of about 15 to 20 years, though the older the system get, the less efficient it becomes, so once the air conditioner has passed about 10 years of age, it may be time to start shopping around for an upgrade.

How much does a plumber cost?

Small plumbing repairs like unclogging a sink or drain cleaning costs $75 to $250 , while larger jobs like fixing a water heater or sump pump cost $500 to $800 . Some plumbers have fixed rates for common jobs or a call-out charge of $50 to $200 that covers the first hour of work.

$45 – $150 average hourly rate

$125 – $450 average job cost.

Tom Grupa

Average Plumber Rates

Average plumber rates are  $500 to $800  for large repairs, and  $125 to $350  for small jobs like repairing toilets, sinks, faucets, or bathtubs. Most plumbers charge  $45 to $150 per hour  and have a minimum service call-out fee or flat rate of  $50 to $200 .

Average cost to hire a plumber - chart

Plumbers work on anything that involves the plumbing system of pipes, tanks, fixtures, fittings, and pumps required for the gas and water to flow through your home.

Common plumbing jobs include fixing leaky faucets, replacing burst pipes, installing a hot water heater, repairing gas lines, installing water lines, or adding new plumbing fixtures such as sinks and bathtubs.

How Much Do Plumbers Charge?

Plumbers charge by the hour or by the job, with hourly rates ranging from  $45 to $150  or a flat fee of $200 to $250  for small repairs. Hiring a master plumber costs  $100 to $200 per hour , while  handyman rates  are  $50 to $80 per hour .

Additional costs are for travel, which is worked in with either:

Minimum service call-out fees of $50 to $150

Travel and trip fees of $1 to $2 per mile after the first ten miles

A $200 to $250 flat fee for standard services or the first hour of work

Setting a minimum number of hours to be billed for each service call

These costs are just the base rate to have a plumber in your home—add the price for materials and supplies, the cost of travel to and from the job, insurance, and the cost of getting equipment to the job.

Plumber Cost Per Hour

Plumbers cost  $45 to $150 per hour , depending on experience, union dues, overhead, parts, tools, insurance, and job type. Plumber hourly rates average  $75  before trip fees and materials. A handyman or apprentice charges about half at  $25 to $45 per hour .

Plumber cost per hour - chart

Flat-Rate Plumber Prices

Flat rates for smaller plumbing repairs like a clogged drain pipe are $75 to $250 , while bigger jobs like fixing your water heater or sump pump cost  $500 to $800 .

Plumbers save time and money by determining the general cost of common issues rather than creating individual quotes for every customer.

Customers may save money with a flat rate if the job takes longer than expected.

Plumbing Prices Per Fixture

Plumbing prices cost  $100 to $600 per fixture , depending on the location and the type of house.

An average  faucet installation costs   $120 to $300 .

A  toilet installation costs   $350 to $800 .

Upgraded fixtures often take more time and skill to install, some requiring electrical work. Electrician hourly rates are $50 to $130 , with a $100 to $200 minimum service call fee.

To get a general cost estimate for new construction, a plumber can add up the number of fixtures and multiply it by his “fixture rate.”

A plumber in new home construction installing bathroom fixtures

Master Plumber Hourly Rate

Master plumber rates are  $75 to $125 per hour  because of the education and experience required, and to cover overhead costs. A master plumber can own his own business and is qualified to supervise journeyman plumbers and teach apprentice plumbers. They are also eligible for bonuses, profit sharing, and commissions.

The requirements to qualify as a master plumber are:

At least seven years of education

A minimum of 2 years as a journeyman plumber

A minimum of 5 years of experience

Three professional references

Pay Per Hour for a Journeyman or Apprentice

An apprentice plumber earns  $14 per hour  while journeyman plumbers who have completed their apprenticeship make about  $24 per hour . The plumbing company they work for bills out higher rates to cover their overhead.

Apprentice plumbers work for about 5 years under a master plumbing and learn as they go to gain experience.

Commercial vs. Residential Plumbing Rates

A commercial plumber charges  $85 per hour  on average, and then in 15-minute increments after the first hour. Residential plumbers average about  $70 per hour .

Commercial plumbers are required to adhere to strict building codes, and they likely will not take on any residential work.

Weekend or Emergency Plumber Cost

You can be billed  double or triple time  on weekends, after hours, and holidays, or about  $125 to $170 per hour  when you need emergency plumbing services. Weekday nights typically cost  time and a half  or more. Most plumbers are available for emergency calls.

Plumbing Prices

Plumbing prices mostly depend on the location, materials needed for the repair or installation, and the plumber’s experience. Most of them will not have a plumbers price list on their website, so you’ll have to call and ask to find your local prices.

Plumbing Repair Costs

Plumber installation services price list, cost of plumber for a house call, plumber service call costs.

Plumber service call fees cost  $50 to $200 on average, which usually covers the first hour of work. The reason for this charge is to discourage casual clients who are only seeking free information. When requesting on-site quotes, be respectful of the plumber’s time, and remember they have other jobs scheduled as well.

Plumbing Trip or Call Out Fees

Many plumbers charge travel and trip fees of  $1 to $2 per mile  after the first 10 miles. This fee covers their fuel and most of the cost of travel between your home, the plumbing supply store, and their office. Others will charge for the full first hour, even if the work only takes 15 minutes, in lieu of a plumbing service fee.

Plumbing Permit Cost & When You Need One

Plumbing permits cost   $30 to $500 . You won’t need a permit for regular repairs or replacement work. You typically need a permit if you open the walls to work on the plumbing, install new pipes during a home addition, or change any of the plumbing in the home.

Check your local building codes for permitting requirments. Having a permit and receiving the resulting inspection upon completion of the job ensures the job is done safely and according to code.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are plumbers so expensive.

Plumbers are so expensive because they are educated, trained professionals. They’ve spent thousands of dollars on training, and they’ve worked many hours as an apprentice (at a low rate of pay), up to the point where they have invested in their own business.

A plumber will come to your home in the middle of the night, will crawl under your house, and will do all kinds of extensive work you don’t want to do.

How Do I Find Inexpensive Plumbers?

If you hire a cheap, inexperienced plumber and something goes wrong, you'll have to pay out of pocket for another master plumber to fix the damage. To find a high-quality plumber, ask around for recommendations from friends and coworkers or compare quotes on HomeGuide for free. The cheapest plumbers might only be less expensive because:

They have no insurance

They aren’t licensed

They are not experienced

How Do I Pay a Plumber?

You can typically pay a plumber by check or credit card, usually when the repair is complete. When you get your initial estimate, ask how they prefer to be paid. Sometimes they will prepare your final invoice in the office and then mail or email it to you.

What is a Plumber's Hourly Wage?

The basic hourly wage for an apprentice plumber is  $22 per hour . The wage changes as the plumber works additional years and receives more education, going up to an average of  $45 per hour .

Do Plumbers Give Free Estimates or Quotes?

Many plumbers will give free estimates; however, keep in mind that preparing an accurate quote can be a labor-intensive project. If a plumber does charge for the time the estimate takes, they will often deduct this cost from your final bill, if hired.

How Much Does a 24-hour Plumber Cost?

A 24-hour plumber who charges more for late night issues charges $195 to $260 per hour . Some plumbers charge you the same rate no matter what time you call them. Before you have an emergency, call some plumbers in your area to find out what their policy is.

How Much Are Plumber Union Fees?

Plumbers who belong to a union pay dues of  $20 to $30 per month . Some unions take a percentage of the plumbers' wages that can be as high as  20% .

Roto-Rooter Labor Rates

Roto-Rooter doesn’t publish its labor rates online because hourly rates depend on the location of the business—some areas of the country have higher labor rates. Based on online reviews of the service, Roto-Rooter prices are 3X to 4X more than the cost of getting a handyman to do the same work.

Hiring a Plumber

When it comes to hiring a plumber , you’ll either hire a general plumber who handles basic repairs, or a plumbing contractor who specializes in new construction and remodeling projects.

General Plumber

A general plumber is who you’ll call when your kitchen sink gets clogged up, or you have a leak or the toilet’s overflowing. Master plumbers typically own plumbing businesses and have the knowledge and experience to handle any problem that might occur.

Plumbing Contractor

A plumbing contractor handles things like remodels and new construction. They will act as a general contractor and oversee the water, sewer, and gas lines in the new construction project, hiring subcontractors to handle different aspects of the project.

Hiring A Plumber

Before hiring a plumber, be sure to:

Get at least three estimates to compare.

Ask for recommendations from family, friends, and neighbors.

Read reviews and check out their previous work on HomeGuide and Google.

Select companies that are insured, bonded, licensed, and have been in business for 5+ years.

Avoid selecting the cheapest quote as quality may suffer.

Ask for a written warranty on their work, including any parts.

Avoid making large payments up front, and never pay in cash.

Questions To Ask

Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?

How long have you been in business?

Can you provide references with contact information?

What hours do you work? Do you charge more for after hours and weekend jobs?

How long will the job take?

How do you handle damages if they occur during the job?

How do you handle additional work that arises?

Do you offer a warranty? If so, what does it cover?

Check Licensing Information

Call your local building department and verify the license of the plumber you’re considering. Every state licenses plumbers who prove through testing they have the education and experience needed to receive a plumbing license.

Hiring someone without the proper training and expertise could be disastrous for your plumbing problems and your home.

Research Summary. Whether you’re flying out of town for that important business meeting or simply attending an annual workshop, business travel is an important part of any big company’s protocol. When it comes to business travel, our extensive research shows that:

Business travel in the U.S. from domestic and international travelers amounts to around $387 billion in annual revenue .

While business trips currently account for roughly 12% of total U.S. air travel , they make up to 75% of airlines’ profits .

At least 35% of U.S. businesses engage in business travel.

From 2019-2020, the number of business trips taken in the U.S. dropped from 464 million to 185 million .

The average business trip costs Americans $949 in travel fees .

business travellers per year

General Business Travel Statistics

Knowing that business travel accounts for up to 75% of air travel revenue, it’s not hard to see why it’s encouraged. In fact, business travel is so lucrative that it even affects the U.S. GDP. Here are the facts:

In 2016 alone, business travel contributed $547 billion to the United States’ total GDP.

That’s around 3% of the total GDP, a number which stayed rather stable until 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic negatively affected business travel. In reality, these high numbers might never return, as experts predict 36% less business travel post-COVID.

In 2022 business travel accounted for 12% of U.S. air travelers.

In 2022 there were over 460 million business travelers, which is a noticeable increase from 2020’s drop to 185 million. However, both years have had a relatively even share of business travelers (around 12-13%).

Business travel can account for up to 75% of an airline company’s revenue.

This trend can mostly be attributed to the booking of first-class tickets. Instead of saving money on business trips, more and more corporations are looking to provide their travelers with maximum comfort and convenience. While doing so makes the company look better, these decisions are mostly made due to competition.

Business travelers account for as much as 40% of hotel guests.

63% of these travelers are male, and 50% are between 35-54. Further, 56% of these individuals are employed in a professional or managerial position that earns them at least $127,000 per year.

Business Trip Statistics

Now that we know how profitable and common business trips are in the U.S., what does the average business trip look like? Well, according to our extensive research:

The average length of a domestic business trip in the U.S. is three days.

The average length for an international trip is 5-6 days. Overall, these numbers seem to slowly decline over time, with the old average (2016) for international business trips being just over six days.

Roughly 26% of business trips are only one day long.

This is another contributing factor for companies’ high cost of business trips, as same-day flights can wrack up costs. However, this does save the company money elsewhere (lodging, food, etc.).

38% of U.S. business travel is for meetings and events.

ME&I travel ( meetings , events, and incentive travel) amounts to $139.3 billion of all business travel spending, nearly 42% of total business travel spending.

Roughly 1.3 million business trips are taken in the U.S. every day.

A number that took a hit from the 90% reduction in travelers in 2020. While these numbers may not recover to pre-COVID numbers, 2021 has increased.

Business Travel Spending Statistics

business travel expenses

As shown, a good percentage of businesses invest in business travel despite the cost. However, you might be surprised to learn just how much business travel costs companies and employees. According to our extensive research:

The average three-day domestic trip costs between $990-$1,293.

While the average international trip costs an average of $2,600 or more. For this reason, business trips need to be especially valuable for the company or employee taking them.

The average company spends 17-27% of its total travel budget on airfare.

You might be surprised to learn that airfare isn’t the most expensive part of business travel. Overall, the average domestic flight is $470, give or take how far away the destination is.

Over 20% of a typical business travel budget goes to food expenses.

That’s even more than flights and can amount to hundreds of dollars in expenses. One of the best ways to avoid this hefty cost is to utilize free hotel breakfasts. After all, never buying breakfast is a great way to cut food expenses.

The most expensive aspect of a business trip is lodging, making up around 34% of total costs.

Hotels make a lot of money from business travelers and the companies who sponsor their trips. This is especially true given the fact that up to 40% of hotel guests are business travelers.

Companies spend roughly $799 per person per day during a business trip.

Business Traveler Statistics

Because only 35% of companies actively partake in business travel, and it can be rather expensive, the demographics of travelers can be rather skewed. According to our research:

At least 50% of business travelers are between 35-54.

Undoubtedly, this abundance of higher ages relates to an employee’s position within the company. Older workers are more likely to have high-level positions . This can also be shown by the fact that 56% of business travelers hold professional or managerial positions that earn at least $127,000 per year.

The average business traveler takes roughly 6.8 trips per year.

And this number is even higher for millennials , who take an average of 7.4 trips per year. In that way, younger generations take more business trips on average (per person) than their older counterparts.

47% of female travelers are traveling on business.

While female business travelers are slightly less common than male travelers, women (on average) tend to enjoy their trips more than their male counterparts. Overall, 45% of women have positive experiences while traveling on business compared to 39% of men.

As of 2021, only 12% of corporate travel representatives feel as though their employees are unwilling to travel.

And with new CDC travel guidelines in 2021, 61% of employees now feel somewhat more comfortable traveling for business.

It takes an average of 38 minutes to complete and correct one expense report.

While it only takes 20 minutes (on average) to complete the expense report , at least 19% of expense reports have errors. Plus, with an average of 1.5 travel expense reports filed per month, that means employees can spend up to an hour filing them each month.

Business Travel Company Policy Statistics

Due to the potentially expensive nature of business travel, it’s no surprise that companies create business travel policies. Here are some stats related to business travel policies:

72% of corporate travel managers haven’t achieved their desired travel policy compliance level.

For the most part, this lack of compliance is due to shortfalls in the traveler ’s experience, fairness and transparency, and not meeting budget requirements.

Only 50% of business travelers follow their company’s travel policy.

In fact, 60% of business travelers don’t even understand their company’s travel policy, making it especially difficult to follow.

81% of business travel is done via personal vehicle.

By contrast, only 16% of business travel is air travel . That means most business travelers travel to their destination by car.

90.6% of corporate travel managers agree that business travel is vital for company growth.

And this sentiment comes from a genuine place, as on average, businesses earn a $2.90 increase in profit for every dollar spent on corporate travel. That equates to an average $9.50 increase in revenue.

Business Travel Trends and Projections

The 2020 height of the COVID-19 pandemic took a major toll on business travel. While business travel has started to recover in 2021, the number of travelers is still around half of what it was pre-COVID. After extensive research, here are the facts about business travel trends:

From 2019-2020, the number of business travelers in the U.S. dropped from 464 million to only 185 million.

From 2010 to 2019, business travelers remained steady between 440 million and 465 million. However, this number dropped drastically in 2020 and then increased to 229 million in 2021.

From 2010-2019, the number of business travelers grew by 4%.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic saw the number of business travelers decrease by 60%, which aligns with other travel declines caused in 2020.

The business travel industry is expected to experience a CAGR of 13.2% between 2021 to 2028.

Luckily, trends seem to show that business travel will start to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic over the next couple of years. Estimates predict that the value of the industry will increase from $695.9 billion in 2020 to $2.1 billion by 2028.

Business Travel FAQ

How many people travel for business annually?

Over 460 million people travel for business annually in the U.S. This is a massive 150% increase from 2020 when there were only 185 million, and similar to 2019’s numbers.

These travelers tend to fall under certain demographics, with at least 50% of business travelers between the ages of 35-54 and 56% of business travelers holding professional or managerial positions that earn at least $127,000 per year.

Luckily, the business travel industry has a CAGR of 13.2% between 2021 and 2028, which indicates at least somewhat of a rebound.

Buying travel insurance is a smart move for any type of trip, but you may not need a policy that covers everything under the sun. If you don't need coverage for trip cancellations or delays because you're relying on your travel credit card to offer these protections, for example, you may find you only need emergency medical coverage that works away from home.

Still, travel medical coverage varies widely based on included benefits, policy limits and more. If you're comparing travel insurance plans and hoping to find the best option for unexpected medical expenses, read on to learn which policies we recommend.

Frequently Asked Questions

The term travel insurance usually describes a comprehensive travel insurance policy that includes coverage for medical expenses as well as trip cancellations and interruptions, trip delays, lost baggage, and more. Meanwhile, travel medical insurance is coverage that focuses on paying for emergency medical expenses and other related care.

Travelers need international health insurance if they're visiting a place where their own health coverage will not apply. This typically includes all international trips away from home since U.S. health plans limit coverage to care required in the United States.

Note that if you don't have travel health insurance and you become sick or injured abroad, you'll be responsible for paying back any health care costs you incur.

Many travel insurance policies cover emergency medical expenses you incur during a covered trip. However, the included benefits of each policy can vary widely, and so can the policy limits that apply.

If you're looking for a travel insurance policy that offers sufficient protection for unexpected medical expenses, you'll typically want to choose a plan with at least $100,000 in coverage for emergency medical care and at least that much in protection for emergency medical evacuation and transportation.

However, higher limits can provide even more protection from overseas medical bills, which can become pricey depending on the type of care you need. As just one example, Allianz says the average cost of emergency medical evacuation can easily reach up to $200,000 or more depending on where you’re traveling.

Your U.S. health insurance policy almost never covers medical expenses incurred abroad. The same is true for most people on Medicare and especially Medicaid. If you want to ensure you have travel medical coverage that applies overseas, you should purchase a travel insurance plan with adequate limits for every trip. Read the U.S. News article on this topic for more information.

The cost of travel medical insurance can vary depending on the age of the travelers, the type of coverage purchased, the length of the trip and other factors. You can use a comparison site like TravelInsurance.com to explore different travel medical insurance plans and their cost.
