has the disney cruise ever sunk

Cruise ships evoke images of large, majestic vessels sailing calm blue waters under sunny skies. But what happens when rough storms strike and push a ship’s resilience to its limits? This is what many Disney cruise travelers wonder as they book their family vacations.

If you’re short on time, here’s a quick answer: No Disney cruise ship has ever sunk . While there have been a couple of minor incidents, Disney’s ships have an excellent safety record overall.

In this nearly 3,000 word guide, we’ll cover whether any Disney cruise ship has ever sunk or had any major accidents, look at Disney cruise ship safety features, recap notable mishaps or incidents, and compare Disney’s track record versus other major cruise lines.

The Safety Record of Disney Cruise Ships

Disney Cruise Line, known for its commitment to providing magical experiences at sea, has an impressive safety record. With a fleet of well-maintained ships and a strong focus on safety protocols, Disney ensures that passengers can enjoy their vacation without any worries.

Disney’s Focus on Cruise Ship Safety

When it comes to cruise ship safety, Disney goes above and beyond to prioritize the well-being of its passengers and crew. The company invests in advanced technology and rigorous training programs to ensure a safe sailing experience.

Disney Cruise Line follows strict guidelines set by international maritime regulations and works closely with governmental authorities to maintain the highest safety standards. Regular inspections and audits are conducted to ensure compliance with these regulations.

The company also has a comprehensive emergency response plan in place. This includes regular drills and training exercises to prepare the crew for any potential emergencies that may arise at sea. Passengers are briefed on safety procedures during the mandatory muster drill at the beginning of each cruise.

Safety Features of Disney Ships

Disney Cruise Line ships are equipped with state-of-the-art safety features to ensure the well-being of all onboard. These features include:

  • Stability: Disney ships are designed with modern stabilizers to provide a smooth sailing experience, even in rough seas.
  • Fire Safety: The ships are equipped with advanced fire detection and suppression systems to quickly respond to any fire incidents.
  • Life-saving Equipment: Each ship is equipped with an ample supply of life jackets, lifeboats, and liferafts to accommodate all passengers and crew in case of an emergency.
  • Security Measures: Disney Cruise Line maintains a strong security presence onboard its ships to ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers.

It is important to note that while Disney Cruise Line has a stellar safety record, accidents can happen at sea. However, the company’s commitment to safety and preparedness minimizes the risk and ensures that passengers can enjoy a worry-free vacation.

Notable Incidents Involving Disney Cruise Ships

Disney wonder hits reef in grand cayman (2022).

One notable incident involving a Disney Cruise ship occurred in 2022 when the Disney Wonder hit a reef in Grand Cayman. The incident took place during a scheduled port of call, and although there were no injuries reported, the ship sustained damage to its hull.

Fortunately, the crew was able to safely evacuate all passengers, and the necessary repairs were made to ensure the ship’s seaworthiness. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of navigational safety and the measures taken by cruise lines to protect their passengers and crew.

Disney Fantasy Fire (2013)

In 2013, the Disney Fantasy, one of Disney Cruise Line’s newest ships at the time, experienced a fire onboard. The fire broke out in the ship’s engine room while the ship was docked in the Bahamas. The crew quickly responded to the situation, and all passengers were safely evacuated.

The fire was contained, and there were no reports of any injuries. The incident highlighted the effectiveness of the ship’s emergency response procedures and the commitment of Disney Cruise Line to passenger safety.

It is important to note that while these incidents may be alarming, they are relatively rare occurrences considering the number of cruises that Disney Cruise Line operates each year. The cruise industry as a whole has stringent safety protocols in place to ensure the well-being of passengers and crew.

Additionally, Disney Cruise Line continuously invests in the maintenance and upkeep of its fleet to minimize the risk of incidents.

If you are interested in learning more about the safety measures and protocols implemented by Disney Cruise Line, you can visit their official website at https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/ . The website provides detailed information on safety procedures, emergency preparedness, and the company’s commitment to passenger safety.

How Disney Cruise Safety Compares to Other Lines

When it comes to safety, Disney Cruise Line has a stellar reputation. The company prioritizes the well-being of its passengers and crew members, taking extensive measures to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience onboard their ships.

While accidents can happen in any industry, including the cruise industry, Disney Cruise Line has managed to maintain an impressive safety record over the years.

Carnival Cruises

Compared to other cruise lines, such as Carnival Cruises, Disney Cruise Line has fewer incidents. Carnival Cruises has faced a few high-profile accidents in the past, including the infamous Costa Concordia incident in 2012.

This incident resulted in the tragic loss of lives and raised concerns about safety measures on Carnival’s ships. While Carnival Cruises has since taken steps to improve safety, Disney Cruise Line has always been committed to providing a safe environment for its passengers.

Royal Caribbean Accidents

Royal Caribbean is another popular cruise line that has had its fair share of accidents. From fires breaking out on their ships to technical issues causing delays, Royal Caribbean has faced some challenging situations.

However, it is important to note that accidents can occur in any industry, and the cruise industry is no exception. Disney Cruise Line, on the other hand, has proven to be highly proactive in implementing safety protocols and conducting regular inspections to prevent such incidents from occurring.

Norwegian Cruise Line Incidents

The Norwegian Cruise Line has also experienced incidents in the past. One notable incident involved a fire on one of their ships in 2013, which led to a complete evacuation of passengers and crew members.

While this incident was unfortunate, it is important to remember that no industry is immune to accidents. Disney Cruise Line, with its stringent safety measures and commitment to passenger well-being, has managed to maintain a strong safety record.

It is worth mentioning that the information provided here is based on public knowledge and available records. For the most up-to-date and accurate information regarding the safety records of cruise lines, it is recommended to visit official websites or consult authoritative sources such as the Vessel Sanitation Program or the U.S.

Coast Guard’s FOIA Library .

While the cruise industry overall has seen its share of major accidents over the decades, Disney Cruise Line boats have managed to stay incident-free aside from a couple fairly minor mishaps.

With their commitment to safety, extensive crew training, and state-of-the-art systems and features, Disney ships continue to provide some of the most family-friendly and secure cruise vacations available.

Has A Disney Cruise Ever Sunk?

The thought of a Disney cruise sinking is enough to make any vacationer’s stomach turn. After all, Disney is synonymous with safety and reliability. But is it really possible for a Disney cruise to sink?

The short answer is yes, it is possible. But it’s also extremely unlikely. In fact, there has never been a Disney cruise ship that has sunk while carrying passengers.

However, there have been a few close calls. In 2010, the Disney Dream was caught in a major storm and suffered some damage. But the ship was able to make it back to port safely.

In 2015, the Disney Fantasy was involved in a collision with another ship. The Fantasy sustained some minor damage, but again, the ship was able to continue on its voyage.

So, while it is possible for a Disney cruise to sink, it’s extremely unlikely. And if it ever does happen, you can rest assured knowing that Disney will do everything in its power to keep its passengers safe.

All the parkgoers riding the Jungle Cruise boat in Adventureland got off the ride safely, a Disney spokeswoman said. The ride lasts about 10 minutes and is listed on Disney World's website as a "slow" ride for "all ages." The "river cruise" is lined with animatronic wild creatures.

Park staffers immediately called the Reedy Creek Fire Department when they noticed the ride was going awry, the Disney spokeswoman said. They then worked with affected guests individually to help them enjoy the rest of their day at the Orlando theme park.

has the disney cruise ever sunk

It is an unfortunate reality that accidents can and do happen, even on vacation. Disney Cruise Line has a fantastic safety record, but it is always important to be aware of the potential risks associated with any activity, including cruise vacations.

The question of whether or not anyone has ever fallen off a Disney Cruise Ship has been raised more than once, and the answer to that question is both yes and no.

The official statement from Disney Cruise Line is that no one has ever gone overboard from one of their cruise ships. However, there have been several reported instances of guests going over the railing and into the water. In each case these guests were either rescued or managed to swim back to the ship on their own.

The most recent incident occurred in February 2020 when a passenger went over the railing on the Disney Wonder near Mexico. Fortunately, he was rescued by crew members who were able to bring him back onboard safely. This incident prompted Disney Cruise Line to review their safety protocols and make changes as necessary.

In addition to these reported incidents, there have also been rumors of other guests falling off cruise ships belonging to other cruise lines. These rumors are unsubstantiated and generally regarded as false.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, while there have been reported incidents of passengers going overboard from a Disney Cruise Ship, none of these passengers were lost at sea or presumed dead. Disney Cruise Line takes its safety protocols seriously and continues to review and update them as necessary.

A disney cruise has never sunk and is one of the safest ways to travel. The company has a great safety record and takes care of its passengers.

What is the likelihood of a Disney cruise ship sinking?

What are the safety features of a disney cruise ship, what are the odds of surviving if a disney cruise ship sinks.

The chances of a Disney cruise ship sinking are slim to none. In the event of a major disaster at sea, Disney has a well-trained and equipped crew to handle any situation. The company also regularly evaluates and updates its safety procedures to ensure the highest level of safety for guests and crew.

When it comes to cruising, Disney is widely recognized as a leader in the industry, setting a high standard for safety and security. A Disney cruise ship is a floating hotel and amusement park , and the company takes great pride in providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all its guests.

One of the most important safety features of a Disney cruise ship is its state-of-the-art fire safety system. Disney was one of the first cruise lines to install sprinklers in all staterooms and public areas, and the company has continued to invest in new fire safety technologies. All Disney ships are equipped with smoke detectors, automatic fire doors, and comprehensive fire alarm and suppression systems .

Another key safety feature of Disney cruise ships is their comprehensive medical facilities. All ships have a fully- staffed infirmary, and larger ships also have a health clinic with a doctor and nurse on call 24 hours a day. Guests can receive treatment for minor ailments and injuries, and the medical staff is also trained to deal with more serious medical emergencies.

Safety is also a top priority when it comes to Disneycruise ship entertainment and activities. All guests are required to participate in a mandatory safety briefing before they are allowed to use the ship's pools, waterslides, or take part in any of the other recreational activities onboard. Lifejackets are available for all guests, and the ship's crew is always on hand to provide assistance and supervision.

Disney cruise ships are some of the most safe and well-equipped vessels sailing today, and the company takes great care to ensure that all guests have a enjoyable and safe experience.

If a Disney cruise ship sinks, the odds of surviving are about 1 in 700. This means that for every 700 people on the ship, only one is likely to survive. The odds are even worse for children, who are about half as likely as adults to survive a shipwreck. There are several factors that contribute to these odds. First, Disney cruise ships are large and heavy, meaning they are less likely to float if they sink. Second, they are often carrying a large number of people, which can make it difficult to evacuate the ship in an emergency. Finally, many of the people on board are likely to be young children, who are not as strong swimmers as adults and are more likely to panic in a crisis.

What are the causes of most cruise ship sinkings?

When it comes to cruise ship sinkings, there are a variety of different causes that can contribute to this type of incident occurring. One of the most common causes of cruise ship sinkings is due to storms or other forms of severe weather conditions. If a cruise ship is caught in a hurricane or other type of severe storm, it can cause the vessel to take on water and eventually sink. Another common cause of cruise ship sinkings is due to collisions with other objects, such as icebergs. In some instances, cruise ships have also been known to sink as a result of fire or explosions onboard the vessel. While these are not the only potential causes of cruise ship sinkings, they are some of the most common.

What are the consequences of a cruise ship sinking?

On the morning of April 10, 2012, the Costa Concordia set sail from the port of Civitavecchia, Italy, bound for the island of Giglio. Just over an hour into the voyage, the ship ran aground on a reef off the coast of the island. The impact ruptured the hull, causing the ship to take on water and eventually to sink. Thirty-two people were killed in the accident, and thousands more were left stranded on the ship or on the island.

In the months and years following the sinking of the Costa Concordia, the Italian government launched an investigation into the accident. The focus of the investigation was on the actions of the ship's captain, Francesco Schettino, who was accused of failing to follow proper procedures and of abandoning the ship before all of the passengers had been evacuated. He was eventually convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 16 years in prison.

The Costa Concordia disaster also had a significant financial impact on the cruise line . The ship was insured for $560 million, but the total cost of the accident, including salvage and cleanup operations, was estimated to be as much as $2.5 billion. As a result of the disaster, Costa Cruises was forced to cancel more than 20 cruises and to offer discounts on future bookings. The company also faced a number of lawsuits from passengers and from the families of those who were killed.

The Costa Concordia disaster was a tragedy that had far-reaching consequences. Thirty-two people lost their lives, and thousands more were left stranded or displaced. The ship's captain was convicted of manslaughter, and the cruise line faced enormous financial losses. In the years since the accident, the Costa Concordia has come to serve as a reminder of the danger of sailing too close to shore.

How many people have died from cruise ship sinkings?

As of September 2019, there have been 47 recorded deaths from cruise ship sinkings worldwide since 1980. The most recent and deadliest incident was the Costa Concordia disaster in 2012, which resulted in the deaths of 32 people.

When the Titanic sank in 1912, it resulted in the deaths of 1,502 people and is still considered one of the deadliest maritime disasters in history. Other notable sinkings include the Lusitania (1915), MV Wilhelm Gustloff (1945), and MV Dona Paz (1987).

The Costa Concordia disaster was particularly devastating not just because of the high death toll, but also because it occurred during a routine Mediterranean cruise. The vessel hit a submerged rock off the coast of Italy and capsized, resulting in the deaths of 32 people and leaving over 4,000 passengers and crew stranded.

The incident brought into question the safety of cruise ships and their ability to deal with disasters at sea. It also underscored the need for better training and safety procedures for crew and passengers alike.

In the wake of the Costa Concordia disaster, several changes have been made to improve safety on cruise ships . These include changes to evacuation procedures, the introduction of mandatory safety drills, and the creation of a new International Maritime Organization (IMO) code for the construction and operation of passenger ships.

While there have been no major cruise ship disasters since the Costa Concordia, that does not mean that they are immune to sinking. In 2018, the Royal Caribbean's Symphony of the Seas had to be evacuated after suffering engine failure during a storm. Thankfully, there were no fatalities and everyone was safely evacuated.

However, given the fact that cruise ships carry thousands of people on board, even a small incident can result in a major disaster. That is why it is important to always be aware of the potential risks when travelling on a cruise ship, and to know what to do in the event of an emergency.

What is the most famous cruise ship sinking?

The sinking of the most famous cruise ship is a topic of great interest and debate. There are many different cruise ship sinkings that have been talked about over the years, but the most famous one seems to be the Titanic. The Titanic was a massive ship that was said to be unsinkable. Unfortunately, it hit an iceberg and sank to the bottom of the ocean. This event has been made into movies and documentaries, and is still talked about today.

How can I avoid being on a cruise ship that sinks?

When it comes to avoiding being on a cruise ship that sinks, there are a few things you can do. First, you can research the ship you are considering booking a cruise on to see if there have been any reports of the ship sinking. If there have been reports, you may want to consider another cruise ship. Second, you can check to see if the cruise ship you are considering has been inspected by the U.S. Coast Guard. The Coast Guard inspects cruise ships to ensure they meet safety standards. If the ship you are considering has not been inspected, you may want to reconsider taking a cruise on that ship. Finally, you can talk to people who have been on cruises to see if they have any recommendations for avoiding being on a cruise ship that sinks. By following these tips, you can help avoid being on a cruise ship that sinks.

Another warning sign is problems with the engines. If the ship starts having problems with the engines, it means that the ship is in danger of sinking. You should get off the ship as soon as possible if you hear about engine problems.

Another warning sign is leaking pipes . If you see water leaking from pipes on the ship, it means that the ship is taking on water. This is a serious problem and you should get off the ship as soon as possible.

Finally, if you see the ship tilting to one side, it means that it is in danger of sinking. You should get off the ship as soon as possible if you see the ship tilting.

If you see any of these warning signs, you should get off the ship as soon as possible. These are all serious problems that could lead to the ship sinking. Try to stay calm and follow the instructions of the crew. They will know what to do in order to get everyone off the ship safely.

Does Singapore’s 5-year deal with Disney Cruise Line mean ship has sailed for Hong Kong?

  • Hong Kong's two cruise terminals have not fully recovered from Covid-related lockdown

The great fanfare with which Disney Cruise Line revealed more details about its maiden voyage from Singapore, its first home port in Asia, in 2025 has raised questions over whether Hong Kong has missed the boat.

Although the deal between the cruise line, part of US entertainment giant Walt Disney Company, and the Singapore government was signed last year, a series of high-profile marketing activities in the city state on Wednesday made waves in Hong Kong.

The cruise line's senior vice-president and general manager, Sharon Siskie, revealed that the new Disney Adventure ship would call Singapore its Asian home port for five years from 2025 and offer three- and four-night voyages.

Do you have questions about the biggest topics and trends from around the world? Get the answers with SCMP Knowledge , our new platform of curated content with explainers, FAQs, analyses and infographics brought to you by our award-winning team.

"We're bringing the magic of Disney Cruise Line to Asia for the first time ever, and we want to give our guests the cruise relaxation and Disney fun they can only experience aboard one of our ships," she said.

Hong Kong's two deepwater cruise terminals - Ocean Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui and the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal - are still recovering slowly from a three-year Covid-related lockdown.

Jeff Bent, managing director of Worldwide Cruise Terminals which operates the Kai Tak site, said he tried to reach out to Disney during the pandemic in 2022, but in vain.

"It was bad timing," he said. "While Hong Kong was in a lockdown, it was a done deal [between Disney and Singapore]."

In April last year, the Singapore Tourism Board and the cruise line agreed the new 208,000-tonne Disney vessel would berth exclusively in the city state for at least five years. The ship, the company's sixth, can hold 6,000 passengers and will have a crew of 2,300, with seven themed areas.

Bent said Disney would not put all its eggs in one basket and wanted to tap new markets such as Asean, as it already had theme parks in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Tokyo.

"Having a cruise ship in Singapore is like having a floating theme park in the sea," he said.

Singapore is one of 10 member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, along with Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Brunei, Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.

Asia will be a new piece in the Disney Cruise Line jigsaw, with the firm already serving the Caribbean, Europe, Canada, Mexico, the South Pacific and elsewhere.

Disney Adventure has been converted from an unfinished ship, Global Dream, that was being built in Germany in 2022 when its owner Genting Hong Kong went bankrupt and subsequently sold the vessel.

Bent said he visited Orlando, Florida, to meet the cruise line's senior managers but to no avail, as they and the Singapore government were already discussing their deal.

Exclusivity is a strategy Singapore has used before. US pop diva Taylor Swift's only Southeast Asian stop on her world tour was Singapore, which signed an exclusive deal with her.

Asked what lessons Hong Kong could learn from missing out on a big player such as Disney Cruise Line, Bent said: "The lesson has to be to keep in close communication with potential partners and investors and help them when they need help.

"Be a solid partner, even when times are tough and show your merit."

The cruise ship deal also turned the tables on Hong Kong, who beat Singapore 20 years ago to secure a Disneyland resort. The city had promised a large site connected to the international airport and a rail line to the theme park, which debuted in 2005.

Economist Simon Lee Siu-po, an honorary fellow at the Asia-Pacific Institute of Business at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, said the government needed long-term policies on tourism so global investors would be more comfortable with investments.

"Another thing is government departments should be better coordinated, for example, in how to promote tourism," he said.

Frederick Yip, an executive director of one of Hong Kong's largest travel agencies, Goldjoy Group, said the company was among key agents for Disney Adventure cruise products and he expected the new services would fuel intense competition in the region.

"Based on the three-to-four-night voyages, return trips will probably reach Malaysia and Thailand and will not be enough to get to Hong Kong," he said after attending the Disney event on Wednesday.

The Tourism Board said it was continuing to provide support and concessions for overseas and mainland cruise companies to attract more ships to Hong Kong and make the city their home port.

It said it would drive the development of fly-cruise and rail-cruise products.

Bent said the Kai Tak terminal was operating at about half of its pre-pandemic capacity after the borders reopened in January 2023.

He said he did not expect it to return to pre-pandemic levels until after 2026 as cruise companies planned two to three years ahead.

Sunk California Cruise Ship Refloated After Leaking 14,900 Gallons of Waste

One month after authorities were alerted about a sinking cruise ship in the California Delta, officials confirmed that the 300-foot vessel had been refloated.

An old ship partially submerged near the shore is surrounded by floating containment booms. A crane and vegetation are visible in the background.

Thousands of gallons of contaminated water have been removed as teams continue to mitigate the spill and keep the ship afloat.

In late May, authorities in California learned that the Aurora, an abandoned 1950s cruise ship, was sinking while leaking fuel and oil into the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta.

By the time the Coast Guard arrived, the ship’s rear had sunk 13 feet. The agency limited contamination by cordoning off the wetlands and deploying a boom around the vessel.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) and the Office of Spill Prevention and Recovery (OSPR) later joined forces to drain the water from the vessel with dewatering pumps.

What was the ship doing in the Northern California River?

Two images: Left shows a stationary cruise ship surrounded by floating containment booms on the California Delta, suggesting an oil leak. Right shows workers in safety gear repairing the top structure of another vessel.

Aurora is currently in Little Potato Slough, an area in the San Joaquin River near Stockton.

Built in 1955, the 69-year-old ship was West Germany’s first large vessel after World War II. It was also the inspiration for the 1970 TV show The Love Boat and was featured in the James Bond film From Russia With Love.

Because of its storied past, the owner reportedly spent over $1.1 million towards its restoration before abandoning the project and selling it to another owner in 2023.

Due to the significant hazards and risks posed by abandoned ships, the Abandoned and Derelict Vessel Removal Act is being explored. If it is ratified into law, it will establish more efficient processes for the removal of vessels and demand greater accountability from owners.

FAQ: Has a Disney Cruise Ever Sunk?

Welcome to our FAQ-style guide on the topic “Has a Disney Cruise Ever Sunk?” If you’ve ever wondered about the safety of Disney cruises or if any unfortunate incidents have occurred, you’ve come to the right place. In this comprehensive FAQ section, we’ll address the most commonly asked questions regarding the sinking of Disney cruises, safety precautions, and other intriguing aspects of the topic.

Which Boat Sank on the Jungle Cruise

Contrary to what the name might suggest, the Jungle Cruise is a beloved Disney theme park attraction and not an actual cruise ship. So, no cruise ship has ever sunk on the Jungle Cruise because it’s just a fun-filled boat ride that navigates simulated rivers and jungles to entertain park guests.

How Rare is It for a Cruise to Sink

Cruise ship sinkings are extremely rare occurrences. In fact, the chance of a modern cruise ship sinking is incredibly low. Thanks to stringent safety regulations, state-of-the-art technology, and highly trained crew members, cruise ships are designed to withstand various challenges and ensure passenger safety.

Can a Cruise Ship Survive a Tsunami

Cruise ships are built to be highly resilient, but it’s important to note that large-scale natural disasters, such as tsunamis, can pose significant challenges. Although cruise ships are designed to handle rough seas, it would be unwise to assume they are immune to the immense power of a tsunami. However, cruise lines closely monitor weather conditions and ensure the safety of passengers by altering course or avoiding areas affected by natural disasters.

Are Cruises Safe from Sinking

Yes, cruises are generally safe from sinking. Sinking incidents are incredibly rare, and the stringent safety measures implemented by cruise lines significantly reduce the likelihood of such occurrences. These measures include routine safety drills, extensive maintenance checks, and compliance with international safety standards.

Which Cruise Line Has the Most Deaths

While any loss of life is tragic, it’s essential to note that the chance of dying on a cruise ship is statistically very low. Cruise lines prioritize passenger safety and invest heavily in safety protocols, which significantly reduces the risk of accidents or fatalities. Therefore, it would be misleading and inaccurate to single out a specific cruise line as having the most deaths.

When Was the Last Cruise That Sunk

As of our latest update in 2023, there have been no recorded incidents of a Disney cruise ship sinking. The cruise industry as a whole has an impressive safety record, assuring passengers of a secure and enjoyable vacation experience.

How Deep is the Water on the Jungle Cruise

The water on the Jungle Cruise is relatively shallow, as it is a man-made attraction within the Disney theme parks. The rivers and water bodies featured in the Jungle Cruise are cleverly crafted with special effects to give the illusion of depth and adventure.

Can a Disney Cruise Ship Sink

Although no Disney cruise ship has sunk to date, it’s important to acknowledge that any vessel, regardless of its size or reputation, has the potential to face unforeseen circumstances. However, Disney Cruise Line ensures the safety of its passengers and crew through stringent safety protocols, routine maintenance, and highly trained staff.

How Many Lifeboats Are on the Disney Cruise

Disney Cruise Line prioritizes passenger safety and is fully compliant with international safety regulations. Each Disney cruise ship is equipped with more than enough lifeboats and life rafts to accommodate all passengers and crew members on board.

Is There a Cruise Ship Graveyard

While the term “cruise ship graveyard” might invoke thrilling images of abandoned ships, it’s not entirely accurate. When cruise ships are retired from service or repurposed, they are typically dismantled and recycled. Some shipyards specialize in these processes, providing an environmentally friendly way to handle aging vessels.

What Is Disney’s Best Cruise Ship

Disney Cruise Line boasts a fleet of exceptional ships, each offering unique and memorable experiences. The best Disney cruise ship ultimately depends on personal preferences and interests. Whether you’re looking for modern amenities, family-friendly activities, or themed experiences, Disney Cruise Line has a ship to suit your needs.

What Happens If You Jump Off of a Cruise Ship

Jumping off a cruise ship is extremely dangerous and should never be attempted. The height of the ship, coupled with the force of the water, can result in severe injuries or even fatalities. Cruise lines have strict guidelines and utilize advanced surveillance systems to deter such risky behavior. So, remember to enjoy the cruise safely from the ship’s decks and designated areas.

Which Cruise Line is the Safest

Various cruise lines prioritize safety and invest significantly in stringent safety protocols and crew training. Each cruise line has its own safety record and measures in place, making it challenging to determine the absolute safest. It’s advisable to research individual cruise lines and consult reputable travel agencies to make an informed decision based on your preferences and needs.

Do Pirates Target Cruise Ships

While pirate attacks on cruise ships are extremely rare, cruise lines take the safety of passengers and crew very seriously. They collaborate with international organizations and follow strict security protocols to minimize the risk of pirate encounters. Cruise ships are equipped with advanced surveillance systems, implement evasive maneuvers, and receive guidance from naval authorities in piracy-prone waters.

Will a Cruise Ship Stop If Someone Falls Overboard

In the event that someone falls overboard, cruise ships are equipped with advanced technology to detect such incidents. The onboard personnel undergo rigorous training to respond swiftly and effectively in such situations. The ship will immediately initiate rescue measures, including stopping the vessel, initiating search procedures, and notifying the appropriate authorities.

Do Disney Cruise Ships Have a Morgue

Morgues are a standard feature on large cruise ships, including those operated by Disney Cruise Line. While the necessity for such facilities may be unsettling to some, it’s essential to ensure the dignified and respectful handling of any unfortunate incidents that may occur during a voyage.

Can a Wave Flip a Cruise Ship

Cruise ships are designed and built to withstand various weather conditions, including rough seas. While rogue waves can occur, they are exceedingly rare. Thanks to advanced weather monitoring systems, cruise lines can plan routes that avoid severe weather whenever possible, ensuring the safety and comfort of their passengers.

Did the Disney Dream Sink

No, the Disney Dream has not sunk. It is one of Disney Cruise Line’s remarkable ships, offering a variety of amenities, entertainment, and unforgettable experiences to its passengers. The Disney Dream and other ships in the fleet continue to provide exceptional cruising experiences while prioritizing safety above all.

Why Did the Jungle Cruise Sink

Contrary to rumors or misconceptions, the Jungle Cruise has never sunk. It continues to be a cherished Disney theme park attraction enjoyed by countless visitors. However, the skippers on the Jungle Cruise are adept at spinning tales and creating exciting illusions to immerse guests in their adventurous and humorous experience.

How Many Cruise Ships Have Been Sunk

Throughout history, there have been recorded incidents of cruise ships sinking due to various factors such as marine accidents, warfare, or natural disasters. However, it’s important to emphasize that modern cruise ships adhere to stringent safety regulations and possess advanced technology to minimize the occurrence of such events. As of now, no Disney cruise ship has been documented as sinking.

Is There a Jail Cell on Cruise Ships

Contrary to popular belief, modern cruise ships do have designated spaces to detain individuals who engage in criminal activities onboard. These spaces serve as temporary holding areas until the ship reaches the next port, where the authorities can take over the legal process.

Do Cruise Ships Carry Guns

While international maritime laws and regulations empower ships to carry firearms for security purposes in certain regions, most cruise ships generally do not carry guns. Cruise lines rely on industry-standard security practices, trained personnel, and collaboration with international authorities to ensure passenger safety.

What Is the Longest Disney Cruise

Disney Cruise Line offers a variety of itineraries to cater to different preferences and time constraints. The longest available Disney cruise typically lasts for approximately fourteen nights. During this extended voyage, passengers can immerse themselves in all the enchantment and entertainment that Disney Cruise Line has to offer.

We hope this comprehensive FAQ guide has addressed your questions and provided you with valuable insights on the topic of Disney cruise ship sinkings. Remember, while it’s essential to prioritize safety when choosing any vacation experience, cruising with Disney Cruise Line remains an exceptionally safe and magical way to create lasting memories with loved ones. How Often do Cruise Ships Sink?

Whether you’ve seen the Titanic, heard about Costa Concordia, or are thinking of booking a cruise, one of the most common questions new cruisers ask to assess their safety is how often cruise ships sink.

To give you a quick insight into how often cruise ships sink, we list below the vessels that have sunk and then go over each in more detail so you get a full understanding of the situation and the likelihood of a cruise ship ever sinking again.

Cruise Ship Sinking

How Many Cruise Ships Have Sunk?

16 cruise ships have sunk since 1912, which was the year the Titanic sank.

The first 6 sinkings up to 1956 were technically all ocean liners rather than cruise ships, but many people think of them as the same because they both can carry thousands of passengers.

See the post was the Titanic a cruise ship for a look at the key differences, some of which made ocean liners more likely to sink than a modern-day cruise ship.

Of the 16 cruise ship sinkings, one was a Chinese River cruise ship, and another was an Estonian cruiseferry, so not technically a cruise ship, but still similar in many ways with the capacity for carrying hundreds of passengers.

Of the ocean-going cruise ships, not all sunk while out at sea. In some instances, they didn’t even have passengers onboard.

Depending on what angle you are asking the question, the below table of cruise ship sinkings should help you find your answer.

Cruise Ship Sinkings Since the Titianic (1912 )

The table below details 16 cruise ships of various cruise vessel types that have sunk since the Titanic in 1912.

We have included vessel type, as arguably it said some of the vessels weren’t technically cruise ships, but we think most people think of the Titanic as a cruise ship, so we have included it and other similar ocean liners.

Considering there are more cruise ships than ever on the seas today, it’s clear that not many cruise ships have sunk in recent times.

How Many Cruise Ships Sink a Year?

With 16 cruise ship sinkings from 1912 to 2022, we can determine that a cruise ship sinks every 6 years 10 months.

On average, that works out as a lot less than 1 cruise ship a year.  Just 0.15% of a cruise ship, to be precise.

The answer to this question will vary depending on your chosen timeframe, vessel type, and the reason for sinking.

For example, do you want to include ocean liners and a cruiseferry and do you want to include cruise ships that were empty and on the way to being scrapped?

When Was the Last Time a Cruise Ship Sunk?

The last time an ocean-going cruise ship sank was in 2012, when the Costa Concordia hit a reef off the coast of Italy.  Thirty-two people died in the incident.  4200 were rescued.

The sinking of the Costa Concordia is probably the most familiar cruise ship people think of when they ask this question.  Although the cruise ship only partially sank, it did not become completely submerged beneath the surface of the water.

Since 2012 there have been no other recorded sinkings of ocean-going cruise ships.

Although the almost empty moored Orient Queen cruise ship sank in 2020 when it was damaged in a huge explosion in Beirut, Lebanon, it capsized that same night.  Two crew members died.

How Often Do Cruise Ships Sink?

Thankfully the answer is very rarely, but there have been a few notable instances where cruise ships have met with accidents leading to sinking.

From the table, we can see that in 110 years, 16 cruise ships have sunk.  This means, on average, 1 cruise ship sinks every 6.8 years.

However, in more modern times, since 2000, only 4 cruise ships have sunk while out at sea, an average of once every 5.5 years.

It does depend on what type of cruise ship you are considering and the situation in which it sank, at sea or empty at the port, destroyed in an explosion (Orient Queen) or awaiting to be scrapped anyway (Belofin-1 ).

Thankfully, when you think of the number of cruise ships launched into the water and currently sailing oceans, rivers, and great lakes all over the world cases like these are rare. Cruise ships have become much safer over the years and much less likely to ever sink.

As you can see, it’s very rare for a cruise ship to sink, but it does happen on occasion. In most cases, the cause is weather-related or due to hitting an obstacle like a reef or iceberg. However, there’s always the chance of a rogue wave event, which has been suspected of sinking other ship types, but thankfully not a cruise ship.

So now that we’ve answered the question of how often cruise ships sink, let’s take a more in-depth look at each of the four major instances where this unfortunate event has happened.

Well-Known Cruise Ships That Sunk

Here’s a look at some of the most famous (or infamous) cases of cruise ships sinking.

The Titanic is, without a doubt, the most famous cruise ship to ever sink. The vessel hit an iceberg on its maiden voyage in 1912 and went down, taking over 1,500 passengers and crew with it, partly because it did not have enough lifeboats for all passengers.

At the time, the Titanic was the largest and most luxurious ship ever built. It was meant to be an unsinkable vessel, but of course, we all know now that no ship is truly unsinkable.

The sinking of the Titanic is a tragic story that has been told time and time again. It’s one of the most famous maritime disasters in history and has been the subject of numerous books, movies, and TV shows.

4 years later in 1916, the Titanic sister ship, the HMHS Britannic , which had been turned into a hospital ship, was famously sunk by a German mine.

Some people might question, was the Titanic a Cruise Ship ?  Technically it was an ocean liner, but because it carried thousands of passengers and is thought to be a cruise ship by many, we have included it.

Costa Concordia

In the past, many ships that sank 100 or so years ago were ocean liners and nothing like the mega-cruise ships carrying thousands of passengers at a time.

The Costa Concordia was a much more recent example of a cruise ship sinking of the large modern-day design many of us know and love.

The vessel hit a reef off the coast of Italy in 2012 and capsized, killing 32 people.

The Costa Concordia was carrying 4,229 passengers and crew at the time of the incident. Thankfully, most people were able to evacuate the ship before it sank.

The captain of the Costa Concordia was later convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 16 years in prison. One year of that sentence was for leaving the ship early instead of being the last to leave as per one of the duties of a highly-paid cruise captain salary .

Costa Concordia Sinking

In 1994, the MS Estonia sank in the Baltic Sea after hitting a storm, killing 852 people.

The MS Estonia was a cruise ferry carrying 989 passengers and crew at the time of the incident. It was traveling from Tallinn, Estonia to Stockholm, Sweden, when it hit a storm and started taking on water.

The MS Estonia quickly sank, and only 137 people were able to be rescued from the frigid waters. It is considered one of the deadliest maritime disasters of the 20th century.

Dongfang zhi Xing  ( Oriental Star or Eastern Star )

The Dongfang Zhi Xing (translated as Oriental Star or Eastern Star ) was a Chinese river cruise ship that capsized in 2015 during a heavy storm. 442 people were killed in the incident.

The Dongfang zhi Xing was carrying 454 passengers and crew at the time of the accident. Only 12 people were able to be rescued from the ship.

The cause of the capsizing was determined to be a severe storm that caused the ship to lose stability and tip over .

Other Cruise Ships That Sank

Prior to 1991, only ocean liners, like the Titanic and cruiseferries had sunk.

Since the year 1991, there have been 8 cruise ship sinkings, or partial sinkings (not including the cruiseferry MS Estonia)

Excluding Costa Concordia and Dongfang zhi xing, which we covered above, there have been 6 other cruise ship sinkings.

MTS Oceanos (1991)

The Oceanos was a French-built Greek-owned cruise ship that sank off the coast of South Africa in 1991. The vessel started taking on water after a series of leaks in the hull.

The ship had a capacity of 550 passengers and 250 crew.

All passengers and crew were successfully evacuated from the ship before it completely sunk. No one was killed or injured in the incident.

However, the captain and some crew members were later arrested and convicted of negligence for fleeing the ship while passengers were still on board.

Sun Vista (SS Galileo Galilei) (1999)

The SS Sun Vista was a cruise ship that caught fire and sank in 1999. The fire started in the vessel’s engine room while it was sailing from Malaysia to Singapore.

All 1,090 passengers and crew were evacuated from the ship before it sank. No one was killed but some people were injured in the incident and needed hospitalization.

Sun Vista was the name at the time of the sinking.  The ship was originally built as the ocean liner SS Galileo Galilei and later converted to a cruise ship.

Passengers reportedly sang music from the Titanic movie to keep their spirits up.  ( Source ).

MS Sea Diamond (2007)

The MS Sea Diamond was a Finnish cruise ship that sank off the coast of Santorini, Greece, in 2007. The vessel hit a volcanic reef and started taking on water.

The cruise ship had a capacity of 1537 passengers, with 1,195, mostly American and Canadian onboard at the time of the incident.

All passengers and crew were evacuated from the ship before it completely sunk. 2 people were killed in the incident.

This short video captures the cruise ship sinking in its final moments.

SS SeaBreeze (2000)

The SeaBreeze cruise ship sank off the coast of North Carolina in December 2000.   This was allegedly due to a boiler breaking off and damaging the ship and the engine room flooding.

Coast guard rescuers at the time did not expect the ship to sink and thought it could be towed to shore by tug boats, but the captain demanded everyone be extracted from the ship as soon as possible.

Subsequently, the ship sank in  Panamanian waters, which was potentially convenient as any investigation would have expected to have been much less stringent than those carried out by American investigators had it sunk in very nearby American waters.

There was much suspicion around the sinking because the scrap value of the ship was estimated to be around $5 to $6 million, which was much less than its insurance payout value of $20 million.

The cruise ship had a capacity of 840 passengers and 400 crew.

At the time of the incident, there were 34 people all onboard who were all extracted to safety.

Belofin-1 (SS Monterey ) (2000)

The Belofin-1 had recently been sold for scrap and was meant to be being towed to India, but went via Mexico from Ukraine in 2000 when it sank near just over 90km from Cape Town, South Africa.

The vessel started taking on water and listing, so the tug boats cut here free and allowed how to sink.

The ship was previously known as the SS Monterey and had a capacity for 701 passengers and 360 crew.

MV Explorer (2007)

The MV Explorer was a small Liberian cruise ship and the first of its kind to sail the  Antarctic waters.

The ship had departed from Argentina, attempting to follow the route of 19th-century explorer Ernest Shackleton through the Drake Passage,a route well known for its rough seas.

The vessel sank in early November 2007 after hitting an iceberg which made a gash in the hull, allowing water to enter.

The ship had a capacity for a total of 104 passengers and 54 crew.

On the day of the incident 154 passengers, guides and crew were successfully evacuated from the ship before it sunk.

There were no fatalities or injuries as a result of the incident.

The video news report below shows photos of the listing ship and passengers being rescued.

Orient Queen (2020)

The Orient Queen was a Spanish cruise ship that was berthed in Beirut, Lebanon, at the time of a huge explosion of a large amount of ammonium nitrate stored at the port.

The ship suffered severe damage and capsized that night before partially sinking.

It was quite small by modern standards, with a capacity of 370 guests.

Two crew members were killed.

How Many Carnival Cruise Ships Have Sunk?

Carnival is one world’s largest cruise lines, but since it has existed, only one of its vessels has ever sunk, the Costa Concordia in 2012.

Although Costa is an Italian cruise ship company, it is owned by Carnival Corporation.

From its fleet of Carnival brand cruise ships, none have ever sunk or capsized.

There have been less serious incidents, such as in 2010, the Carnival Splendor had to be towed to port after an engine room fire disabled the vessel.

A more recent and well-known incident was that of a fire on Carnival Triumph, since renamed Carnival Sunshine. The ship was left stranded and without power after the generator caught fire.

Infamously the incident led to the ship being referred to as “the poop cruise” because raw sewage backed up onto the passenger decks and passengers had to use plastic bags as a makeshift solution.  It’s no wonder they renamed it.

Why Don’t Cruise Ships Tip Over or Sink?

There are many reasons why a cruise ship sinking is such a rare event, and that’s because of how they are designed.

Although many modern-day cruise ships look top-heavy, with relatively small proportions of the ship underwater , it’s no surprise people wonder if a cruise ship can tip over .

They are designed to have a low center of gravity, with most of the weight at the bottom of the ship . A wide, stable hull and other stabilizing factors, such as ballast tanks, stabilizing fins, and bilge keels, keeps a ship upright in even the roughest of sea conditions.

Conclusion: What Can We Learn From These Incidents?

While it’s certainly tragic when a cruise ship sinks, it’s important to remember that these incidents are rare.

The Titanic is the most famous example of a cruise ship sinking, but it happened over 100 years ago.

The Costa Concordia, MS Estonia, and Dongfang zhi Xing are more recent examples, but they are still relatively rare.

When you compare the number of cruise ship passengers to the number of incidents, it’s clear that cruising is a safe way to travel.

Of course, no one wants to be on a ship that sinks, so it’s important to do your research before booking a cruise.  If you are concerned, check the ship’s safety record and ensure it meets all required safety standards.

Cruising is a great way to see the world and is generally very safe.

Disney Magic to be sunk, turned into artificial reef

Why don’t they ever sink ships to create natural reefs?

PORT CANAVERAL, FL — The  Disney Magic is the latest victim of the Covid-19 shutdown.   Disney Cruise Line announced today that  the Magic ,   the first cruise ship in the Disney fleet, will be sunk and turned into an artificial reef.

With the high cost of maintaining the ship during the cruise industry shutdown, the write-off will help boost Disney’s bottom line.

I own a share of Disney. Why don’t I get these calls?

Robert “Bob” Chapek, CEO, and talking head for Robert “Bob” Iger, CEO (the one who actually does things for Disney), made the announcement during a call with investors.

“Keeping up a cruise ship that is not taking on passengers is expensive. For, example, there is still a crew onboard the ship. Don’t worry, I’m pretty sure we’ll evacuate them before we sink the darned thing. We’ll run the numbers again on that to make sure it makes sense.

“While some are concerned about the future of Disney Cruise Line, this (sinking) is actually going to make us money. First, Disney fans will buy anything. Anything! So we’re selling off anything we can, starting with stuff that could harm the environment, like oil, grease, fuel, etc. And as we take things other things off the ship, we’ll sell them, too.”

Milking it for more

Chapek Iger One of the Bobs was certain that Disney would find more ways to make the scuttling of the Disney Magic profitable.

“Universal has paid us a ton for ‘first shot’ rights,” Bob explains. “That means they will get to take the first shots at sinking the ship. They get great footage, and we get paid. We’ve already got the boys in marketing working on various scenarios and how we’ll spin it.”

The position of the new reef has yet to be determined. Disney has shared a list of potential locations, however. They are, in particular order:

  • the Seven Seas Lagoon;
  • the Rainbow Reef at Disney’s Aulani Bed & Breakfast, Resort & Spa;
  • the Spring at Disney’s Springs; or
  • just adding it to the junk pile at Epcot’s New Jersey Pavilion.

The Scat Cat Lounge paying homage to one of the most iconic voice actors, Scatman Crothers, will be pounding out jazz just off the atrium with cat-themed adornments to what’s promised to be an old-school jazz club.

Images and details of the new venue were posted Thursday to the Disney Parks Blog touting the addition as bringing “the groovy penthouse performance of ‘Ev’rybody Wants to be a Cat’ into the real world for the first time.”

The Scat Cat Lounge is a new piano lounge themed to the 1970 Disney film

The piano, for instance, will sport paw prints from the wet paint scene from the movie while the carpeting will mirror ornate designs similar to those animated in the Parisian maison of Madame Adelaide Bonfamille, the owner of well-to-do Eva Gabor-voiced character Duchess and her kittens. Fans of the film will see their silhouettes at the entrance while the musical street feline Scat Cat’s signature horn will double as a door handle. Among the decorations will be hidden images of a certain mouse. Nope, not Mickey, but Roquefort.

As it’s adjacent to the Grand Hall, which is themed to the fictional Middle Eastern land of Agrabah from “Aladdin,” the colors and architecture will pull from a similar palate.

The drink menu will include special cocktails such as the Créme de la Créme Martini and a beverage called The Cat Drink.

Disney Cruise Line queues up old and new features for new ship Disney Treasure

The venue joins Disney Treasure spaces themed to iconic theme park rides and movies including “The Haunted Mansion,” “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” and “Jungle Cruise.”

Construction on the 144,000-gross-ton, 4,000-passenger vessel continues at Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

The sister ship to Disney Wish that debuted in 2022 will begin sailing from Port Canaveral in December, taking on seven-night Caribbean itineraries.

A third ship in the Wish class, Disney Destiny, is due in 2025, and its home port and itineraries are expected to be revealed later this summer.

The three ships, along with the purchase of the unfinished Global Dream cruise ship that DCL acquired in 2023 and was renamed Disney Adventure, will grow the DCL fleet to eight vessels by the end of 2025.

A Jungle Cruise Boat Started Sinking At Disney’s Magic Kingdom — The Rock Was Nowhere To Be Found

Dane Rivera

One of our favorite Disney attractions is the Jungle Cruise. Sure, it’s not exciting, it’s not “cool” by any means, and some would argue that it’s not even particularly fun — but we live for Jungle Cruise captains (usually an old person) with no comedic timing whatsoever telling incredibly cringe-inducing jokes while we sit back, cool off, and watch some robot hippos emerge out of murky three-feet deep water. All you nerds can keep your Jedi-fulfillment fantasies , we’ll take the chill vibes of the Jungle Cruise any day.

As kitschy-cool as the ride is, ever since Disney announced that they’d somehow be turning the five-minute ride until a full-blown movie starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Emily Blunt, many have been wondering if Disney would begin revamping the cruise to match the high-octane thrills of the movie. For the record, they won’t be, but we can’t help but think of how many people had the thought “Oh my God did they revamp the ride?!” yesterday at Disney’s Magic Kingdom as a Jungle Cruise boat began to slowly fill with water before eventually sinking.

Photos of the incident have begun circulating throughout social media that capture the moment the Jungle Cruise boat, Bomokandi Bertha, began sinking at 12:30 PM yesterday afternoon at Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, causing a 105-minute interruption while passengers were rescued. Luckily, no injuries were reported — so you can chuckle while taking a look at the chaos below.

God, I hope that Jungle Cruise skipper hammed it up while guests were being evacuated… "Well, if this isn't a perfect metaphor for my love life: you're all leaving and I'm left sinking." — Josh (@themeparkjosh) February 27, 2020

As you can see, there was a long line of boats waiting near the end of the ride. A boat just in front of the Guest recording appears to be slowly sinking but we arent entirely sure that was the reason for the breakdown.

Typically, if Guests encounter a long breakdown or evacuation, they are given passes that allow them to skip the standby line for a different attraction to make up for the experience.

Unfortunately, this is not even the first time we have seen a ride vehicle sink at the Magic Kingdom.

Earlier this month, a log sank at Disney’s iconic Splash Mountain attraction, with Guests panicking and screaming as the ride continued. This was the third reported time that a long had sunk.

As Disney states, “it’s a small world” was created for the 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair. Personally overseen by Walt Disney in support of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the attraction was a huge hit. After 2 seasons there, it was shipped to Disneyland park, where it opened on May 28, 1966.

In 1971, “it’s a small world” was recreated to become one of the Opening Day attractions at Walt Disney World Resort. Due to its immense popularity, the attraction has been replicated at many Disney theme parks around the world and is considered a Walt Disney masterpiece.

Disney Ship Hammered By Hurricane Sandy, Video Footage Shows Intense Flooding And Rocking Of Cruise Ship

Nadine DeNinno

On Monday, CNN posted video footage sent from a passenger aboard a Disney ship, which shows the boat being flooded and massive shaking hammered by Hurricane Sandy.

According to CNN's iReport, user tneyedoc2020 and his wife embarked on a seven-day Disney cruise for a vacation. However, on Friday as it sailed through Miami, Fla., the ship experienced rocking and flooding from Hurricane Sandy as it made its way up the East Coast.

"There was a moment in the night where they ship tilted so far to the right that the furniture moved across our room. If you think about how far a thirteenth-story ship has to tilt for furniture to move, it says a lot," he told CNN iReport.

The video below was taken during the early evening hours on Friday. He said by midnight on Saturday, the ship was being tossed in many directions, with doors in the suite opening and closing rapidly. Two hours later, the passenger reported, the ship was being violently tossed from side-to-side, furniture went flying, and glassware shattered.

The Disney ship did dock safely severe hours later in Port Canaveral, Fla.

The passenger who captured the video said the captain and crew were sorry the cruise experienced rough patches caused by the storm on its sixth night, which was predicted to be less harsh. He said the captain announced over an intercom that passengers should stay in their cabins.

"The ship was rising and dropping into the water pretty dramatically; it was really startling at times," he told CNN. "But the crew was doing the best they could. Many crew members, some with over 10 years of experience on various ships, told us it was the worst night they have ever seen."

The user said Disney gave all passengers a 25 percent off discount for their next cruise.
