The 2025 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PRO Is Blazing Fast And Fiercely Elegant

12 rarest muscle cars ever sold to the public, 10 incredibly rare classic car features you never see anymore.

Ferrari boasts a rich history that already spans several decades. Thus, it is not a surprise when customers would want their Prancing Horse connected to at least a point in the Ferrari legend. For instance, the owner of this Ferrari 812 GTS had his supercar wrapped in a finish reminiscent of the carmaker’s racing successes in the 1950s.

The Legend Of 1956 Tour De France

On various social media sites, Ferrari posted three images of a newly customized 812 GTS . Wrapped mainly in blue, this 812 GTS looks like a certain car from the Italian carmaker’s legendary past. In particular, this 812 GTS traveled back nearly 70 years to the past to resurrect the appearance of a certain Prancing Horse – the iconic Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Competizione.

Boasting around 260 hp of max output from its three-liter V12 engine, the Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Competizione was a force to reckon with at the 1956 edition of the Tour de France. That year’s event spanned six days during which various cars took part in circuit contest, hill climbs, as well as drag races. Alfonso de Portago and co-driver Edmund Nelson came out of the 1956 Tour de France as the overall winner. The 250 GT Berlinetta went on to win Tour de France in 1957 and 1958, earning the nickname “TdF.”

An Iconic Livery From 1956 To 2022

With its Tour de France win and other race victories at the 1957 Targa Florio and 24 Hours of Le Mans 1959, the 250 GT Berlinetta Competizione became one of the most successful racing cars in Ferrari’s history. In the 1956 Tour de France, the winning 250 GT Berlinetta donned a Blu Flugplatz exterior, a livery stripe replicating the French tri-color flag, and the #171 roundels.

Obviously taking inspiration from the 1956 Tour de France-winning 250 GT Berlinetta, the Ferrari 812 GTS borrows the legend’s exterior color, French tri-color stripe as well as the #171 roundels on the side. Its Blu Flugplatz exterior paintwork represented the official color of French motorsports in the 1950s. While this Ferrari is definitely Italian-made, it dons the French colors as a tribute to the 1956 icon. Inside, this 812 GTS features a Connolly Luxan leather interior trim.

Made Possible With Ferrari Tailor Made

This one-off 812 GTS became possible thanks to Ferrari’s Tailor Made program. Limited to exclusively selected customers, the program allows them to personalize their Ferrari cars according to their tastes and preferences. Moreover, the program provides customers control of the creative process.

Ferrari Shows Off A Tour de France-Inspired Tailor Made 812 GTS

This ferrari’s unique spec goes from italy to france..

ferrari 812 gts tailor made.jpg

Ferrari’s Tailor Made program is responsible for a variety of unique Ferrari gems, with the ability to stunningly execute a client’s vision, bringing it to life in the form of a powerful, luxurious, beautiful, and well-crafted performance car. Recently, one of the latest examples that Ferrari has shown off in a new post on Instagram is a Tailor Made Ferrari 812 GTS, which features a configuration inspired by a country other than Ferrari’s home of Italy.

However, for inspiration, Ferrari didn’t have to travel far from Italy, going to its neighboring country of France. The Tour de France is what served as the primary inspiration for the livery of this Tailor Made 812 GTS , which features a light blue exterior with a stripe across the center of the car in the colors of the French flag.

Description

Deal Pending

  • Single ownership and just under 1,900 miles from new
  • Driven in the 2023 Ferrari Cavalcade
  • Attractively specified in Blu Tour de France over a Cuoio leather interior
  • Numerous options include Apple CarPlay, suspension lifter, and carbon fibre driver zone
  • Ferrari’s final naturally aspirated, front-engined, V-12 grand tourer

Aside from its racing exploits, Ferrari is best known for its lineage of exceptional front-engined, 12-cylinder grand touring cars. Since the company’s inception over 75 years ago, these cars have been the final word in sporting elegance, offering both the performance and luxury that Ferrari is known for. With vaunted models such as the 250 GT/L ‘Lusso’, 365 GTB/4 ‘Daytona’, and 550 Maranello, many believe that Ferrari’s most recent front-engined V-12 grand tourer, the 812 Superfast, will be its last, in the face of increasingly stringent regulations on emissions. In convertible form, the 812 GTS is arguably Ferrari’s finest expression of the V-12 grand tourer, and one to savour for both enthusiasts and collectors alike.

Delivered new to its first and only owner in the UK via H.R. Owen Ferrari of London in December 2020, this 812 GTS has been tastefully specified in Blu Tour de France over a Cuoio leather interior. Drivability was obviously at the forefront of its current owner’s mind, as it was specified with a number of ‘must have’ options, including Apple CarPlay, adaptive headlights, suspension lifter, passenger display, and full electric seats, considered by many to be more comfortable over long distance than the racing seats. Other important options include 20-inch dark forged wheels, Scuderia shields, blue-painted brake callipers to match the paintwork, and a handful of carbon fibre options, including inner door handles, driver zone with steering wheel LEDs, dashboard inserts, and the interior central bridge. Finally, the Cavallino Rampante on the headrests has been stitched in blue to match the paintwork, while a contrasting Sabia stripe on the seats and dashboard adds a touch of elegance. The car’s most recent service was undertaken by Rossocorsa of Milan prior to it undertaking the 2023 Ferrari Cavalcade.

At the wheel, the 812 is exactly what it is advertised to be: Superfast. Its performance is astounding; with plentiful torque and eager handling, it will have no issues putting almost any other car on the road in its rearview mirror. However, this performance is not all encompassing, and the car can easily be driven in a relaxed manner in its comfort setting, swallowing up luggage for two for a cross-continent jaunt.

Once naturally aspirated V-12 engines in new cars become a thing of the past, the 812 Superfast will be remembered as one of Ferrari’s all-time great grand touring cars. The 812 GTS is a step above, offering the thrill of top-down motoring alongside 200+ mph performance. This well-optioned, single-owner example needs nothing other than an enthusiastic new owner looking for a grand tourer par excellence. Ferrari is in the midst of rolling out its new 812 Superfast in markets around the world . The latest is France, where the new front-engined V12 supercar made its national debut – in yellow, no less – at the glamorous Mediterranean coastal city of Cannes. So far, most of what we’ve seen of the new twelve-cylinder Prancing Horse has been either in red or dark grey . It has popped up on our radar in yellow a couple of times before , but never looking quite as good as it does here.

The replacement for the F12, the new 812 follows in a long line stretching back to the 550 Maranello, through the 575M and the 599 GTB Fiorano. It packs a 6.5-liter V12, naturally aspirated, to deliver 789 horsepower to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual clutch transmission, besting even the new Aventador S from arch-rival Lamborghini. 0-62 is quoted in 2.9 seconds with a top speed of 211 mph, making it one of the fastest road-going Ferraris to date.

Those figures match the more hardcore F12 TdF, which made yellow its signature color, and which lapped the Fiorano test track in 1:21. We’ve yet to see a lap time for the new 812, but it’ll have to beat LaFerrari’s 1:19.7 to take the road-car lap record. Whenever you’re ready, Maranello.

The 2024 Tour de France is a truly unique race beginning in Florence and ending – for the first time in its 121-year history – outside Paris .

This year’s Tour will wrap up without the usual procession to the Champs-Elysees, where security resources will be focused on the Paris Olympics starting five days later. Instead, organisers have opted to end the race with an individual time-trial in Nice, adding the possibility of the yellow jersey changing hands on a dramatic final day.

A map of the 2024 Tour de France route from Florence to Nice

Before that, riders face a typically gruelling challenge, with a hilly start in Italy before crossing to France where a perilous gravel stage awaits in Troyes. Week two leads the peloton south to the Pryenees and the monstrous Col du Tourmalet, before a series of days in the Alps including a particularly brutal stage 19 with a summit finish in Isola.

It all concludes in Nice on Sunday 21 July, where the race winner will be crowned.

Tour de France TV channel, highlights and how to watch every stage online

Stage 1: Florence to Rimini (hilly, 206km) | Saturday 29 June

Stage 1 map

The opening stage of the 2024 Tour de France will be a beautiful ride, starting with the Grand Depart on the banks of the Arno river in the centre of Florence before heading through Tuscany to the finish line on Italy’s east coast, on the beachfront of Rimini. The route also takes in San Marino, the Tour’s 13th country. But it will be tough on what is the most hilly first stage in the race’s history with 3,600m of climbing to conquer. It could be a day for Tadej Pogacar to immediately make his mark, or for an outstanding classics rider like Mathieu van der Poel to target, while young puncheurs like Ireland’s Ben Healy and Belgium’s Maxim Van Gils could be outside bets.

  • Stage 1: Romain Bardet shakes off peloton to finally claim yellow jersey

Stage 1 profile

Stage 2: Cesenatico to Bologna, (hilly, 199km) | Sunday 30 June

Stage 2 map

The second day throws up a more gentle ride, though it still contains six categorised climbs to test the legs. The purest sprinters will get left behind but the small ascents are unlikely to put off the more hardy fast men, like Wout van Aert , who will like the look of the fast finish in Bologna.

  • Stage 2: Kevin Vauquelin earns debut win as Tadej Pogacar assumes yellow

Stage 2 profile

Stage 3: Plaisance to Turin (flat, 231km) | Monday 1 July

stage 3 map

The long third stage will be the first opportunity for a bunch sprint to the finish line. Expect Alpecin-Deceuninck to try and control the final kilometres in an effort to position Jasper Philipsen for the win, but there is a stacked list of sprinters ready to challenge him including Arnaud de Lie, Dylan Groenewegen, Sam Bennett, Wout van Aert and Mark Cavendish, chasing a record 35th stage win to finally eclipse the great Eddy Merckx.

  • Stage 3: Biniam Girmay makes history as first black African to win a Tour stage

stage 3 profile

Stage 4: Pinerolo to Valloire (mountainous, 140km) | Tuesday 2 July

Stage 4 map

A tough fourth stage takes the riders into France via a couple of testing category-two climbs and to the foot of the Col du Galibier – the first hors categorie ascent of the race. The gradient averages only 5.3% but at 23km long, it is a draining slog of a climb to the top and the strongest climbers will come to the fore. Expect some attacks among the big hitters like Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard as we get our first real sense of the battle for overall victory.

  • Stage 4: Tadej Pogacar makes statement with dominant win to regain yellow

Stage 3 profile

Stage 5: Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne to Saint-Vulbas (flat, 177km) | Wednesday 3 July

ferrari 812 tour de france

The second sprint finish of this year’s Tour contains some small hills but nothing that should disrupt the power riders from reaching the finish near the front, where they will expect to battle for victory.

  • Stage 5: Mark Cavendish makes history with record-breaking 35th win

Stage 5 profile

Stage 6: Macon to Dijon (flat, 163km) | Thursday 4 July

Stage 6 map

An even flatter day looks ripe for a bunch sprint on the streets of Dijon. One small categorised climb early in the stage precedes an intermediate sprint which might be targeted by those hunting the green jersey, and a breakaway will almost certainly then take to the front of the race. But it is likely to be caught by the sprinters’ teams before the finish as the peloton’s power riders fight for the stage win.

  • Stage 6: Dylan Groenewegen wins photo finish in Dijon

Stage 6 profile

Stage 7: Nuits-Saint-Georges to Gevrey-Chambertin, (ITT, 25km) | Friday 5 July

Stage 7 map

The first individual time-trial of this year’s Tour de France sweeps through thick forest before opening out into the picturesque vineyards of Burgundy. The only climb is the short Cote de Curtil-Vergy (1.6km at 6.1%), followed by a descent into Gevrey-Chambertin, and here Remco Evenepoel – the reigning time-trial world champion – will plan to take some time from his general classification rivals who are less adept against the clock.

  • Stage 7: Remco Evenepoel claims ‘crazy’ time trial win

Stage 7 profile

Stage 8: Semur-en-Auxois to Colombey-les-Deux-Eglises (flat, 176km) | Saturday 6 July

Stage 8 map

It may be officially listed as a flat day, but stage eight contains five categorised climbs and plenty more undulation, along with an uphill drag to the finish which should be enough to shake out some of the pure sprinters from contention. This could be a bunch sprint, a day for the breakaway or even a bold solo attack if the situation presents itself for an opportunist near the front of the race.

  • Stage 8: Biniam Girmay secures second stage win in sprint finish

Stage 8 profile

Stage 9: Troyes to Troyes (hilly, 199km) | Sunday 7 July

Stage 9 map

The Tour de France takes on the gravel roads of the Champagne region to see out the first week, and the white dusty terrain could take down a few unfortunate victims. The 14 sections of gravel span 32km in all, and they are similar to the roads of the iconic Italian race, Strade-Bianche. The past winners of Strade-Bianche – Tom Pidcock, Mathieu van der Poel, Wout van Aert and Tadej Pogacar – will fancy their chances here.

  • Stage 9: Frustrated Tom Pidcock narrowly beaten on chaotic and dusty day

Stage 9 profile

Rest day: Orleans | Monday 8 July

Stage 10: orleans to saint-amand-montrond (flat, 187km) | tuesday 9 july.

Stage 10 map

The Tour heads down to the centre of France, where on paper it is a nice-looking day for the sprinters, but they will need to stay alert to winds which could split the pack along this twisting route south to Saint-Amand-Montrond in the Loire Valley. A short, sharp climb 8km from the finish could be the launchpad for a brave attack, though the muscle men of the peloton will hope to fight it out against each other at the finish in Saint-Amand-Montrond.

  • Stage 10: Jasper Philipsen capitalises on Mathieu van der Poel leadout for first stage win of 2024

Stage 10 profile

Stage 11: Evaux-les-Bains to Le Lioran, (mountainous, 211km) | Wednesday 10 July

Stage 11 map

Six categorised climbs pepper a hard up-and-down day through the Massif Central. The third-from-last ascent is the toughest, the Puy Mary Pas de Peyrol (5.4km at 8.1%), with a painfully steep final 2km to conquer, and strong climbing legs will be needed to win the stage. A good day for a breakaway to escape and potentially stay away to the end.

  • Stage 11: Tearful Jonas Vingegaard battles back to pip Tadej Pogacar to victory

Stage 11 profile

Stage 12: Aurillac to Villeneuve-sur-Lot, (flat, 204km) | Thursday 11 July

Stage 12 map

The ‘flat’ categorisation disguises the numerous small hills dotted through this picturesque route to Villeneuve which will drain legs if the pace is high. Expect a determined breakaway to make it difficult for those teams hoping to set up a bunch sprint at the finish – twice before, the day has been won by a rider in the breakaway here.

  • Stage 12: Biniam Girmay seals hat-trick of sprint stage wins

Stage 12 profile

Stage 13: Agen to Pau, (flat, 165km) | Friday 12 July

Stage 13 map

Pau is a staple of the Tour de France over the years, acting as the gateway to the Pyrenees mountains. The hilly finish to the stage might slow down some of the pure sprinters but they will be determined to reel in a breakaway – especially if they failed to do so a day earlier, and with so much hard climbing to come.

  • Stage 13: Jasper Philipsen pips Wout van Aert as Primoz Roglic forced to abandon

Stage 13 profile

Stage 14: Pau to Saint-Lary-Soulan Pla d’Adet, (mountainous, 152km) | Saturday 13 July

Stage 14 map

The iconic Col du Tourmalet stands in the middle of this mountain stage, with the road peaking at 2,115m above sea level. The 19km climb averages 7.4% gradient and once it’s conquered, two more big climbs await including a summit finish at Pla d’Adet. The GC contenders will surely trade blows on this brutal day.

Stage 14 profile

Stage 15: Loudenvielle to Plateau de Beille (mountainous, 198km) | Sunday 14 July

Stage 15 map

A nice relaxing weekend in the Pyrenees is rounded off with five climbs over a 200km route, all rated category one or harder. Expect fireworks among the yellow jersey contenders as they race to the finish atop Plateau de Beille.

Stage 15 profile

Rest day: Gruissan | Monday 15 July

Stage 16: Gruissan to Nimes (flat, 189km) | Tuesday 16 July

Stage 16 map

This is the final chance for the sprinters to bag a stage before the road kicks up into the mountains once more. Those in contention for the win will need to keep their composure as roundabouts punctuate the long final strip into the line in Nimes.

Stage 16 profile

Stage 17: Saint-Paul-Trois-Chateaux to Superdevoluy (mountainous, 178km) | Wednesday 17 July

Stage 17 map

The peloton reaches the Alps for a day that will be draining as the road tilts from the start. There are bonus seconds to be collected at the top of the category-one Col du Noyer, before a fast descent to a small summit finish which caps a tough second half to this stage.

Stage 17 profile

Stage 18: Gap to Barcelonnette (hilly, 180km) | Thursday 18 July

Stage 18 map

A breakaway will certainly have a go at escaping up the road to clinch this stage, and they should be able to make it stick. The five official climbs are all category-three ascents which might mean some of the well-rounded sprinters, like Wout van Aert, can clamber over them and be a threat at the finish.

Stage 18 profile

Stage 19: Embrun to Isola 2000 (mountainous, 145km) | Friday 19 July

Stage 19 map

Perhaps the most eye-catching stage when the 2014 route was unveiled was this one: three monstrous Alpine climbs, back to back, with a summit finish at Isola. The middle climb of the trio is the giant Cime de la Bonette (22.9km at 6.9%), the highest road in France at 2,802m. If the fight for the yellow jersey is still alive at this point in the race, this will be a thrilling stage for the story to unfold.

Stage 19 profile

Stage 20: Nice to Col de la Couillole (mountainous, 133km) | Saturday 20 July

Stage 20 map

It may be a little shorter at only 133km, but this is another brutally tough mountain stage featuring four climbs and another summit finish, atop the Col de la Couillole, and it is another day when the yellow jersey could be won or lost.

Stage 20 profile

Stage 21: Monaco to Nice (ITT, 34km) | Sunday 21 July

Stage 21 map

The race will finish without the usual procession through Paris and instead see the riders contest an individual time-trial from Monaco to Nice that could decide the outcome of the Tour. The last time-trial finale saw Greg Lemond pinch the yellow jersey on the Champs-Elysees, beating Laurent Fignon by eight seconds. This route is longer than the stage-seven time-trial, and a little more hilly too, so there is potential for some significant time gaps.

Tech Check: The Shoes of The 2024 Tour de France

Who’s wearing what shoes in the 2024 tour de france if you are curious what’s in the big leagues, here’s your guide..

Don't miss a moment of the 2024 Tour de France! Get recaps, insights, and exclusive takes with Velo's daily newsletter. >","name":"in-content-cta","type":"link"}}'>Sign up today! .

One of the most fascinating things about the Tour de France is that every day cycling fans can use the same gear. If you want to ride the same bike as Tadej Pogačar all you need is a credit card and Colnago will sell it to you. You can ride wherever you can ride a bike and, in the grand scheme of things, it’s not even that expensive. That’s like being able to go buy a Ferrari F1 car and drive it on the weekend!

Still, not that expensive in the grand scheme of things is still pretty expensive. If you want to buy in at a lower price, other equipment is more affordable. We’ve already taken a look at the helmets in the 2024 Tour de France , now it’s time to see who’s wearing what shoes in the 2024 Tour de France. Unfortunately this one’s a lot less straightforward but read on and see if there’s a brand you don’t recognize.

No shoe sponsor

We might as well start here. The vast majority of WorldTour teams do not have a specific shoe sponsor. That includes Total Energies, Bahrain Victorious, Groupama-FDJ, Intermarché-Wanty, Astana Qazaqstan, and EF Education-Easypost. UAE Team Emirates and Ineos Grenadiers should be on that list as well but there are some notable standouts among the team so I’ve given them a section below.

There’s an argument that Astana Qazaqstan should also have a section as well but there’s an asterisk to that one.  Marc Cavendish is famous for his Nike shoes but they are one of the few pairs of shoes in the 2024 Tour de France that you can’t buy. If you want to read about the special Nike shoes Cavendish had last year , we have an article on that but this year’s look a little different. You can make out the Nike logo as Cavenish raises his arms in victory but there’s no gold base and the dials aren’t white.

Shimano brand road cycling shoes in the 2024 Tour de France

Uno-X Mobility – Shimano

It only makes sense to follow up the no shoe sponsor teams with Shimano. Uno-X Mobility is the only team I could find that specifically calls out Shimano as a shoe sponsor. Uno-X Mobility is not the only team that rides in Shimano shoes in the 2024 Tour de France.

Many of the teams with no shoe sponsors are also using Shimano for groupsets. Shimano makes excellent road cycling shoes. I’m not privy to the specific details of the sponsorships but these facts frequently collide to put teams without a specific shoe sponsor into Shimano shoes.

As a rider, this isn’t a bad thing. The Shimano S-Phyre RC-903 is a top-shelf shoe that offers great forefoot retention and does an excellent job at preventing rotation at the heel. They use a pair of BOA Li-2 dials which make for precise adjustment of the fit and there’s a wide version if that’s your need.

It also has to be said that the Shimano S-Phyre RC-903 has some of the best colors of any shoe on the market. Right now there’s a stark white, a black that fades to a sparkly silver, and the (my favorite) Shimano blue which fades to a kind of oil slick blue in the rear. You can also drop an extra $25 for a silver that looks closer to champagne with a fade to a charcoal with sparkles. If none of that is right for you there was also a red option that you can still find at some retailers.

Shimano offers road, gravel, and Tri shoes on the Shimano website .

Nimbl brand road cycling shoes

Team Visma-Lease A Bike – Nimbl

I’ve worn a lot of road shoes. I literally have a pile of them that I dip into so I can test all the options. The best I’ve ever used is the Nimbl Feat Ultimate. According to Nimbl they are “entirely manufactured in house, from the carbon chassis to the upper, with attentive Italian craftsmanship allowing us to keep control of the whole production process.” This lends the feel of a custom shoes from an old-school cobbler but they are even more impressive because of the performance.

The Nimbl Feat Ultimate is the only shoe I can wear for 20-hours, or however long my ride is, with no pain. There’s never any numbness or tingling, nothing but a solid connection to the pedal. They are also the lightest shoe I’ve weighed and they are hard wearing with a unique style of carbon that doesn’t easily scratch.

I haven’t tested the full range of what Nimbl offers but, from what I know, they are likely to be impressive. The only thing I’d recommend is that you leave a bit of room in the already high purchase price for some insoles to go with your Nimbl shoes. The included insoles aren’t anything special and they let down the rest of the shoe a bit. Personally I swapped to something from Bont.

Check out more Nimbl details on the Nimbl website .

Giant brand road cycling shoes

Team Jayco–AlUla – Giant

This is another team that could probably be thrown into the no shoe sponsor bucket. The only reason it gets a unique subhead is that Giant does make road shoes and has for a long time. The Giant Surge Pro isn’t a shoe you’ll see all that often but if you like an ultra-stiff base, check it out.

The shoe builds off a base that uses something called an ExoBeam design. Simply put, it’s a pair of carbon beams that run around the outer edge of the base then through the center of the shoe. The narrow structure of the carbon creates a base that offers absolutely no flex front to rear but still allows slight flex side to side. A sharkskin style inner heel cup and a pair of BOA Li2 dials round out the design. It’s also nice that the outer is fairly immune to damage and very flexible.

You can read more about the Surge Pro on the Giant website . Just know that there’s not many left in Chromaflair.

ferrari 812 tour de france

UAE Team Emirates – DMT

UAE doesn’t have a team shoe sponsor but Tadej Pogačar wears the DMT KR SL shoes. Unfortunately I don’t have any direct first hand experience with DMT shoes. Still, what makes the brand stand out is a fully knit upper across the lineup. The KR SL, doesn’t have a tongue and instead slides on like a sock. It’s also exceptionally light, hovering right around the weight of the Nmbl Feat Ultimate at close to 200 grams per shoe depending on size.

If you are a big Pogačar fan, and a white shoe fan, then the only all-white KR SL is a special “heartbeat” edition of the shoe. Aside from the all-white it’s also “enhanced by colourful graphic markings honouring the greatest wins that Tadej has achieved throughout his career. POGI’s “Heart Beat” is also equipped with NFC technology to facilitate first aid.”

If you are a really big fan then maybe start looking to see who bought the “ diamond-encrusted shoes worn on final stage of Tour de France ” in 2022.

You can read more info on the DMT Website .

Quoc road cycling shoes in the 2024 Tour de France

Ineos Grenadiers – Quoc

Like UAE, there’s no Ineos Greadiers shoe sponsor but Geraint Thomas has his own deal. Instead of DMT, Thomas partners with Quoc and wears the M3 Air. Adding more to the story, it sounds like Thomas is not only impressed with the fashion and performance but also appreciates the home country of Quoc. As part of the announcement he stated “It’s a great feeling to be able to finally announce the new partnership we’ve established with QUOC – a British brand with a major focus on aesthetics and design, as well as performance. As soon as I saw the range I knew they were the brand for me – and to have a British partner makes it all the more special as I ride these final two seasons as a pro.”

As far as the actual shoe, the M3 Air isn’t a shoe we’ve covered or a shoe that I’ve had a chance to test. We do have some coverage of the Quoc Gran Tourer II you can check out but one detail of note from that review is the dials. Although it may look like Quoc is using a BOA dial, the design is unique to Quac. That might not be the best even if Gerraint Thomas is happy.

More details are available at the Quoc website .

Trek brand road cycling shoes

Lidl-Trek – Trek

When I investigate these sponsorship details, Lidl-Trek makes it easy. The title sponsor is Trek and the team wears Trek shoes and helmets. That could mean the Trek RSL shoes but if it was my choice, I’d be picking the Trek RSL Knit instead.

I stand by my assessment that the Nimbl shoe is the best I’ve ever used but the Trek RSL Knit isn’t far behind. For consumers it’s held back a bit by durability concerns but for a professional rider, that’s immaterial. The Knit upper keeps your foot locked in place in a way that no other shoe can boast. You can even release the tension on the BOA Li2 dials and you won’t slide around.

You can read more details in my Trek RSL Knit shoe review .

Decathlon-Ag2r La Mondiale – Van Rysel

Decathlon is a title sponsor and the team rides with Van Rysel bikes plus the Van Rysel RCR shoes. That’s not that surprising but what is surprising is the shockingly low price of what seems to be a top-shelf shoe. Unfortunately this is another set of shoes in the 2024 Tour de France that you can’t actually buy with the website noting that there’s a “New model in design.” If you could buy them though, retail is $162.94. You can otherwise state that as less than half the price of most shoes on this list.

We haven’t reviewed any Van Ryself shoes, I haven’t ridden any Van Rysel shoes, and this model is currently discontinued. That doesn’t leave much to say here but it will be interesting to see what comes next from Decathlon.

You can check out other great cycling gear deals on the Decathlon website .

Specialized brand road cycling shoes

Soudal Quick-Step and Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe – Specialized

In the world of WorldTour level cycling shoes, Specialized is one of the more unique companies. There’s not just one current top model. That part is completely unique, Trek has two competing top models also but for Trek, one of them is the more premium offering. Specialized instead has the S-Works Torch and the S-Works Ares and even though the Ares has been out for a long time, and is getting discounts, it’s still a current model.

Of the two, the S-Works Torch is the design that’s showcasing the direction that Specialized is headed. The Torch is fully embracing the wider is better model of shoe design with comfort as the first goal. Meanwhile, the Ares is an older shoe that’s not as wide but it locks your foot into place in a way that few other shoes can boast. It was originally marketed as a sprinters shoe but I’m far from a sprinter and still appreciate that my foot remains in place. As a result, the Ares is that shoe I always grab when I know I don’t want to experiment and just want something that works without pain.

Take your pick of Torch or Ares at the Specialized website .

Canyon brand road cycling shoes

Alpecin-Deceuninck and Movistar – Canyon

When I started writing this article, I’d been riding in Canyon shoes for a month but they hadn’t hit the market yet. Now they’ve landed and Alvin Holbrook took the lead on the Canyon Tempr CFR Road Shoes review. Both of us noted some pain on the outside of the pinky on long rides but that’s pretty typical for me and Holbrook has very wide feet. You may not run into that issue and on the upside, I loved how much of a beating the Tempr CFR can take. You know that friend that always you hiking through some gravel section in your road shoes? No problem with these, the sole is protected and it won’t easily rip. THe upper is also easy to wipe clean even in white.

Given there’s a full review, I’ll let Holbrook tell you more in the full Canyon Tempr CFR shoe review .

Ekoi road cycling shoes in the 2024 Tour de France

Lotto-Dstny, Israel-PremierTech, Cofidis, Arkéa-B&B Hotels – Ekoi

As with helmets, Ekoi is providing shoes to a lot of teams. The EKOI Racing C12 Pro Team is the top level shoe the brand offers and in an interesting twist, the brand shows Carlos Rodriguez from Ineos Grenadiers on the product page despite sponsoring a number of teams not including Ineos.

That said, if you’d rather show a different allegiance, there’s also a limited edition of the shoe with french colors. It’s the same price and it highlights Valentin Madouas with Groupama-FDJ. There’s also a small quote where Madouas states, “The first strength of this shoe is its comfort. It’s also very light for a leather shoe. There’s very little deformation, which allows the feet to be free in the shoe while being well supported. I’m going to be racing in them on the Tour de France, as they’ll enable me to cope with the heat as well as the rain.”

Given that I’ve never seen or tried the EKOI Racing C12 Pro Team I’ll have to let that statement stand. I will note though, that at 240 grams for a size 42 this shoe is not actually that light when you aren’t sponsored. I wouldn’t let that turn you away as the genuine leather upper sounds like it might be worth the weight.  I’m also curious to know if these shoes will eventually work with the unreleased pedal system Ekoi is developing .

You can read more details at the Ekoi website .

Scott brand road cycling shoes

Team DSM Firmenich-Post NL – Scott

The Nimbl Feat Ultimate use a carbon fiber fabric in the closure system and it’s a great part of the design. If for some reason you aren’t into that shoe but you are intrigued by that detail, Carbitex offers a similar technology. The finish is a bit different but in both cases the advantage is the lack of stretch. Carbitex doesn’t make shoes though. Instead, Carbitex licenses the technology to other brands including Lake and Scott.

The Scott Road RC Ultimate is the best shoe that Scott makes and it’s also the only pair of shoes in the 2024 Tour de France using Carbitex. I’ve ridden in these shoes a lot but I’ve never reviewed them. The Carbitex technology is great but Scott claims this shoe uses a racing last that’s lower volume with a slim fit. For me that translates to too narrow even for my narrow and low volume feet. I absolutely love racing with these on Zwift for an hour but I can’t manage them for longer rides. If you’ve got narrow feet and like to race, these are probably worth a look. For anyone that needs a wide last and is interested in Carbitex you can also find it on the Lake CX403 paired with kangaroo leather.

Check out more details about the Scott Road RC Ultimate on the Scott website .

Although those are all of the shoes in the 2024 Tour de France there are a ton of other great shoes not being represented. If you are looking for shoes, take a look at our other shoe reviews .
