Yes, many modern cruise ships have microwaves in the rooms for the convenience of their guests. These microwaves allow passengers to heat up snacks, leftovers, or even prepare simple meals in the comfort of their own cabins. Having a microwave in the room can be a great option for those who prefer to have more control over their food choices or have specific dietary needs that require them to heat up certain food items.

Having a microwave in the room can also be a time-saving amenity for passengers, as they can quickly heat up a cup of coffee in the morning or warm up a late-night snack without having to wait for room service or go to a public area on the ship. It adds an extra level of convenience and flexibility to the overall cruise experience. However, it’s worth noting that not all cruise ships may provide microwaves in every cabin category, so it’s always a good idea to check with the cruise line or your travel agent before booking your cruise to ensure that a microwave will be available in your specific room.

While many cruise ships offer microwaves in various cabin categories, it’s important to note that not all rooms may have this amenity. Higher-tier cabins or suites are more likely to have microwaves, but it’s advisable to check with the cruise line or your travel agent to confirm if a microwave will be available in your chosen cabin category.

Most cruise lines do not allow passengers to bring their own microwaves onboard for safety reasons. However, it’s always a good idea to check with the specific cruise line or consult their website for their policies on outside appliances.

In most cases, the use of the microwave in the room is included in the overall cost of the cruise. However, it’s always a good idea to double-check with the cruise line or refer to their onboard amenities guide for any additional charges or restrictions that may apply.

Microwaves are generally available on most modern cruise ships, regardless of the destination. Whether you’re cruising the Caribbean, Alaska, or any other popular cruise region, you can typically expect to find microwaves in the cabins.

While microwaves on cruise ships are designed to heat up a variety of food items, it’s important to follow any guidelines or instructions provided by the cruise line. Some cruise ships may have restrictions on certain items or may provide guidelines to ensure guest safety and prevent any potential hazards.

If your cabin does not already have a microwave, it may be possible to request one from the cruise line, depending on availability. However, it’s important to note that this is subject to the cruise line’s policy and may not always be guaranteed.

While the microwaves in cruise ship cabins are typically intended for simple heating or reheating purposes, they may not be suitable for cooking full meals. It’s always best to check with the cruise line or refer to any onboard guides for specific guidelines on microwave usage.

Cruise ship staff follow strict cleaning protocols between passengers, which includes sanitizing and cleaning all cabin amenities, including microwaves. This ensures that each guest can enjoy a clean and hygienic environment during their cruise.

Bringing your own microwave-safe dishes onboard is generally allowed. However, it’s always a good idea to check with the specific cruise line or consult their website for any restrictions on outside cookware or tableware.

When using the microwave in your cruise ship cabin, it’s important to follow any guidelines or instructions provided by the cruise line. This may include precautions such as covering food items to prevent splattering or setting appropriate heating times to avoid overheating or burning.

If you have specific dietary requirements or food items that need to be microwaved, it’s advisable to inform the cruise line or your travel agent in advance. They can assist in ensuring that your needs are met and that the necessary arrangements are made to accommodate your requests.

While there may be specific guidelines or restrictions on microwave usage during certain times or locations on the ship, this can vary between different cruise lines. It’s best to refer to the onboard guidelines or consult with the cruise staff for any specific information regarding microwave usage during your cruise.

Cruise Ship Cabin Guide: 15 Questions & Answers About Your Room

When it comes to the cruise ship, your cabin is your home away from home. It’s where you’ll sleep (of course), but it’s also where you’ll relax, get ready for the day, and it serves as your own little private spot away from the rest of the ship.

Cruise cabin overview

But there are a lot of little things that you may not know about a cruise cabin, or things that you should understand in order to make your vacation even better.

Below, we cover every aspect of your room while you sail. If you have even more questions, simply let us know in the comments below.

What Types of Cabins Are There? What Are the Differences?

On a modern cruise ship there is no shortage of different cabin types — especially when you get into high-end suites that can offer all sorts of different features, sizes, and amenities. However, for the most part cabins fall into five categories:

Inside : The lowest-priced cabins on the ship are the inside or interior cabins. These rooms are just what they sound like; they are on the inside of the ship meaning they don’t have any windows. While they have everything you need, inside cabins offer a budget-friendly way to get on the cruise ship (and get really dark with the lights out!).

Oceanview : Want to save money but also have a little light and be able to see the scenery? Oceanview cabins offer a room with a window. It can’t be opened, but will give you the chance to take in a view and not feel so enclosed while also not breaking the bank.

Balcony : Just as the name implies, with these rooms you get your own little balcony that allows you a spot to sit out, get some fresh air, and have your own private view. For many people a balcony is a must-have, but just know that they are more expensive than lower-tier cabins.

Suites : Suites won’t have the largest number of rooms on the ship, but they can have the largest variety. On the largest ships they can span everything from a cabin with a little extra space all the way to massive two-level penthouses on the highest levels of the ship. Expect to spend considerably more for the luxury.

Specialty Cabins : Some cruise lines are offering more and more specialty cabins (such as Carnival’s ‘Havana’ rooms) that fall into one of the categories above, but also have special features or perks. This can range everything from different styles than the rest of the ship to access to special lounges, restaurants, and pools.

How Big Is a Cruise Cabin?

do cruise ship rooms have microwaves

If you’re thinking of a big hotel room on the ship, then temper your expectations (unless ponying up for one of the mega-suites on some ships). Rooms will vary in size, but usually they fall in the 160-200 square foot range. A 12’x12′ foot bedroom in your home is under 150 square feet, so it’s slightly larger than a normal bedroom.

But in that space you’ll have your bed, a sitting area, closet/storage, and the bathroom. Space is used efficiently, and it’s plenty of space for two adults for a week. Still, it can feel a bit small if you don’t keep the room organized or are in the room for an extended period of time.

How Large Are the Balconies on a Cruise Ship?

View of a cruise balcony

Like cabins, balconies can vary in size. However, most cruise balconies are around 40-60 square feet (roughly 4-6′ x 10′). It’s large enough for a couple of chairs and a table, but don’t think that you’ll have a massive spot to hangout, sunbathe, or do much more than just sit and enjoy the view.

Even so, having this extra space in addition to the enclosed cabin is a nice perk that can make your cabin feel much larger.

How Many People Can Sleep in a Cabin?

Despite the small size, cruise cabins can often sleep three to four people. There are traditionally two twin beds that can be separated or joined together to make one queen bed that sleeps two people.

In addition, sometimes there is a couch that can have the pillows removed to make a flat space to sleep another person. Some cabins have drop-down or fold-down beds to sleep multiple people as well.

Note that just because a cabin can sleep four people doesn’t mean it will do so comfortably. In our opinion most traditional cabins have enough space for two adults and one/two kids. If your kids are older or you have more adults, then going with a larger cabin like a suite or booking two rooms might be a better idea.

Do I Have to Sleep in the Same Bed as Someone Else?

do cruise ship rooms have microwaves

If you are traveling with friends and walk into a cabin with one large bed, don’t worry. Cruise cabin beds can be separated or joined together. So a couple can have them together while friends traveling can take them apart.

Your cabin attendant can form the beds how you like. Just let them know if it’s not in your preferred configuration.

What’s the Bathroom Like?

do cruise ship rooms have microwaves

For most people, let’s just say their bathroom in the cruise cabin will be… cozy. Bathrooms are small, with a sink and vanity, a toilet, and a shower.

The commode in the cabin is built into the wall (and actually seems to sit an inch or two higher than normal). Instead of a lever you push to flush, there is a button above the toilet for when you’re done.

Unless opting for a higher-end suite, there won’t be a tub. Instead you’ll have a shower (often circular, but not always) with a shower-head wand. Just know that the showers are small. Often you can simply extend your elbows out to your sides and be touching opposite walls of the space.

Within the shower you’ll have a dispenser for soap and shampoo. In addition, there is usually a retractable line that extends across the shower where you can hang clothing to dry.

Are There Accessible Cruise Cabins for Handicap/Disabled Passengers?

As you can likely tell, the traditional cruise cabin isn’t that accessible. There isn’t much room for wheelchairs, there are things like a high threshold to the bathroom, and no grab bars around toilets or in showers.

If you need more accessibility, don’t worry. On cruise ships there are a number of accessible cabins that you can book. These rooms are tailor-made for those needing accommodations that fit their needs.

Instead of high thresholds between the bathroom and cabin balcony, there are gentle inclines. Rooms feature more space to maneuver a wheelchair (including a larger balcony), and things like grab bars and shower seats to help passengers with these needs sail comfortably.

Can I Adjust the Temperature in the Room?

Most likely you can adjust your room temperature. Every room your sail will have some sort of thermostat. But to be honest, we’re not convinced that all of them actually adjust the temperature.

We’ve sailed in cabins where you adjust the thermostat and can instantly hear the air kick on. Other rooms we’ve sailed we have noticed absolutely no correlation between what we place the thermostat on and what the temperature in the room does.

In general, cruise cabins are cool, so you don’t have to worry about getting too hot. In our view, we’ve had issues with the room being too cold for our taste and not being able to warm things up a bit.

Is There a Refrigerator in the Cruise Cabin?

Yes, any cruise cabin will have a fridge in it. Just know that it’s more of a cooler than a refrigerator. Don’t expect it to get too cold, and it certainly won’t freeze anything.

Sometimes the fridge in the room doubles as a stocked mini-bar. These items aren’t free and you’ll have a price list posted nearby. If you want to use that space to keep items cool, you can let your cabin steward know and they can remove the items to give you space.

Is There a Safe in the Room?

Yes, any cruise cabin you book will have an in-room safe. This is normally in the closet area.

The safe is small, with a footprint about the size of a small laptop computer. Still, it’s enough space for things like passports, phones, cash, and cards. The safe is operated with a four-digit code that you create on your own. So you enter any four digits, press “close” or “lock” and your valuables are stored. Enter the code again to open the safe up.

What Amenities Are in a Cruise Cabin?

Your cabin may be small, but it comes with everything that you would need for several days at sea.

We’ve mentioned the refrigerator and cabin safe. As well, there is a television, an in-room hair dryer, vanity area with desk, outlet(s), and closets with hangers. In the bathroom you’ll have soap/shampoo provided, along with a line for drying clothes, and towels.

How Is TV in the Room?

Each cabin will come with a television. On newer ships the TV menus are usually interactive, providing you with a way to explore things going on around the ship, check your onboard account, and even watch pay-per-view movies.

However, when it comes to channel options, there’s a lot to be desired. In general, cruise ship cabins have only a handful of channels (around 20 or so). Of those, many will be the cruise line’s own channels, which show information about safety on the ship, shopping information for port, and a map of the ship’s location.

In addition, there are usually a few channels that show movies throughout the day and then a few regular channels you’re used to back home, like HGTV, CNN, Cartoon Network, and the like. There is also usually ESPN, but it’s an international version showing sporting events from around the world.

If you have a favorite program that you love to watch each week, chances are you WON’T be able to watch on the ship. Major sporting events (like NFL Sundays) are usually shown.

You can read more about TV on a cruise here .

Who Is the Cabin Steward? What Do They Do?

The first day that you arrive on your cruise, the Cabin Steward should introduce themselves. This person is the housekeeping service, and you’ll see them plenty. They typically come twice per day — once in the late morning and once in the evening — to clean, ready your room for the night, and restock anything you might need.

If you need anything, don’t hesitate to ask your room steward. From extra towels to separating beds, they can do it all.

Don’t need service twice a day (in our opinion, it’s too much!)? You can let the steward know or simply hang the “Do Not Disturb” tag on the door.

Is Room Service Available?

Don’t feel like changing out of your pajamas for breakfast? Just want to eat a meal without having to fight through other passengers? You’ll be happy to know that room service is available for your cabin.

You’ll normally find a menu somewhere in the room (check the vanity/desk area) that has the full listing of what’s available and the number to call. Room service is available around the clock, but know that there is generally a charge. It’s also customary to tip the person bringing the food a few bucks.

When you are done with your meal, you can stack them in the cabin or place them outside your door. Either way, the room steward will take them away for you when done.

How Much Storage Space Is There?

Cabin storage space

For the size of the cabin, there is lots of storage space. First there are usually large closets that feature shelves, drawers, along with hangers. So no matter if you’re wanting to put away folded clothes or hang up nice items so they don’t get wrinkled, you’ll have a spot.

Then there are other storage spaces, such as under the bed and the vanity. Cruise bed frames are metal and sit up off the floor with lots of empty space underneath. It’s the perfect spot to put empty suitcases or other large bulky items so they are completely out of the way.

If you run into a situation where you think your room doesn’t have enough storage, chances are you overpacked.

What Should I Bring to Make a Cabin More Comfortable?

Over years of cruising, there are a few cabin items that we’ve found can make your cruise more comfortable. These items aren’t must-haves, but you’ll often be happy you brought them.

Outlet Adapter : We all carry a lot of electronics these days, but many ships (especially older ones) may only have one or two outlets to plug things in. That’s why we like to bring an outlet adapter that plugs into one spot and provides multiple places to plug in chargers, hair straighteners, and anything else you might need. Just make sure that whatever you bring doesn’t have a surge protector as they are not allowed.

Fan : If you’re the sort of person that needs airflow or the white noise provided by a fan, then you’ll want to pack one. Cabins don’t have ceiling fans, and while the air does flow from the vent, it does so pretty soft and quiet. Packing a small fan may make you more comfortable and sleep better.

Shoe Organizer : One great idea is packing a cheap plastic shoe organizer. These can hang over the bathroom door and provide a ton of little pockets to store items. There’s lots of storage in a cruise cabin, but an organizer puts all those small items in one place and within easy reach.

Good Cabin overview, I did not see the handicapped cabin category. On carnival that can be fully accessible to single side (automatic door, larger floor space, flat floor into bathroom, shower bench and grab bars, and more room getting into bed).

The picture of the bathroom is on the new Mardi Gras right? I have not been on there, that is really small I see and hear. Most bathrooms on older carnival ships are larger, with room from the toilet to the shower…lol.

Great comment. Will look to add some info on accessible cabins.

Do Cruise Ship Cabins Have Fridges? (Mini Bars, Sizes & More)

If you are taking a cruise you might wonder if the cabin you have booked will have a fridge. In this article, we look at which cruise lines put a fridge or mini bar into your room, and what they can be used for.

Do Cruise Ship Cabins Have Fridges?

Most cruise lines do usually have a fridge of sorts in the cabins. These fridges are really “mini-bars.”

Sometimes they are stocked full of snacks, drinks and alcohol that you can buy at an inflated price, others are empty for you to put your own drinks or snacks in.

Carnival Magic fridge mini bar

Some more luxury cruise lines like Viking, let you help yourself to anything in the minibar free of charge – but I usually cruise with the more mainstream cruise lines, so don’t go near the drinks and snacks stored in there!

Cabin fridges or “mini bars” are not as cold as a fridge in your own home. They may not be suitable for keeping your medication in.

Which Cruise Lines Have fridges in the Cabins?

*NOT AVAILABLE IN INSIDE CABINS

It should be pointed out that the above chart is only a general guide. Cabin amenities can change from one ship to another. Best to check online what your cabin will contain when you book.

What Are Cruise Ship Cabin Fridges For?

  • The fridge may be a fully stocked mini-bar. On most mainstream cruise lines there will be a price list and you will be charged for any item you remove.
  • The fridge or mini bar may be empty, then you can use it to chill your own drinks, or store food that you have bought back from the buffet. (As I am not a big breakfast eater, I often put fruit or bread rolls in the fridge for the next morning. This saves me from having to get up and go to breakfast!)
  • To keep medication chilled – but check that the fridge is cool enough to suit your needs.

Azamara Onward fridge mini bar

How Big Are The Fridges?

Usually, the fridges are as small as they can get away with! Space is at a premium in cruise ship cabins.

Fridges are often built-in under the desk in the cabin. They are not immediately obvious, so open all the cupboards to see if you can find one!

Typically, mini-fridges in cruise ship cabins are around:

48cm (H) x 40cm (W) x 42cm (D) or 18 In (H) x 15 In (W) x 16 In (D)

Of course, this will vary from one ship to another.

P&O Iona fridge mini bar

Can You Store Medication In The Fridge?

Cruise lines don’t recommend you keep your medication in the fridge/ mini bar. They say they can’t guarantee that the temperature will be suitable.

Cruise lines often suggest that you speak to your cabin steward when you arrive, and they can arrange for the medication to be stored in the ship’s refrigerators

P&O cruises say :

Your cabin steward will ensure your medication is available to you as required throughout your cruise. We do ask that you travel with your medication in a sealed container, clearly labelled with your name and room information. P&O Cruises

Mini-fridges have some disadvantages. They are very handy to keep your drinks chilled, and I am always grateful to find one, but:

  • They have less space than a normal fridge
  • You aren’t able to adjust the temperature of the fridge
  • It is not suitable to store frozen items
  • It may not be cold enough to store your medications.

One Final Thing To Be Aware Of

If the mini bar in your cabin is stocked with drinks and snacks, be aware that you will be charged for anything you take out.

Check your final bill to make sure you haven’t been charged for snacks or drinks you haven’t had .

I recently got off a cruise where, as usual, your bill was totalled up on the last night, and your credit card automatically charged.

When I checked my statement before disembarking, I found I had been charged for two bottles of water from the mini bar that I hadn’t had.

I went down to the reception before I disembarked (Luckily it was a ship where passengers embark and disembark at every port so no big queue) and had those charges removed.

Interestingly, the guest at the counter next to me was complaining about EXACTLY the same thing!

I wonder how many guests would bother to go to the reception to have the charges removed when it was only a couple of Euros/Dollars/Pounds? On a ship with 6000 passengers, all those charges would soon add up…

What to Pack

What to Pack What to Wear

On a Norwegian cruise, you travel from destination to remarkable destination - and only unpack once. That said, cruisers tend to pack twice as many clothes they need.

Electronics

Remember all of your tech stuff: tablets, chargers, cameras, spare memory cards, batteries and power converters

The current on board is 110 volts & 220V AC. However, some high-voltage hair dryers, electric rollers and electric razors may require a converter

Laundry & Dry Cleaning: For your convenience, we offer laundry and dry-cleaning services. Express, same-day service is also available. Just complete the order form in your stateroom and your stateroom steward will pick up your laundry and return it to you clean and folded. Please note that laundry is not self-service

alt-img-card

Each guest is allowed two pieces of checked luggage with a 50-pound maximum each, same as airlines. Luggage should be clearly labelled with your name, address and contact number.

Bring an Additional Small Bag: It may take a few hours after embarkation for your luggage to be delivered to your stateroom. Likewise, suitcases are collected on the last night of your cruise. To avoid any complications, be sure to bring a small bag such as a backpack for carrying any necessary medication, valuables, important documents and need-to-have items.

Luggage Tags

You may find and print your luggage tags on the last page of your eDocs. For your convenience, we recommend that your luggage tags be placed on your bags prior to arrival at the port.

What Not To Bring on Board

alt-img-card

Fire is one of the greatest threats at sea and due to the safety concerns these devices present, if one is found in a guest's possession or unattended in a stateroom onboard, our policy instructs the crew to confiscate the device for safekeeping. The device will remain in our possession, in a safe, monitored location, for the duration of the cruise. Guests can reclaim their device at the conclusion of the cruise from the reception desk.

What is the new California consumer protection law?

California's Senate Bill 478 is a new consumer protection law that requires businesses to advertise a comprehensive price for any product offered for sale. To comply with this new law and to simplify the booking experience for all our guests based in the U.S. and Canada, Norwegian Cruise Line will be incorporating applicable taxes, fees and port expenses into our advertised pricing by July 1, 2024

Will this change impact your cancellation/refund policy? Also, now that your pricing is all in, how do I determine how much my refund will be?

There will be no changes to cancellation fees and refunds. Cancellation fees will be assessed on the amount of the advertised price excluding the taxes, fees and port expenses. Refunds will be provided for the taxes, fees and port expenses in the event of cancellations. Refer to your cruise confirmation for the breakdown of cruise fare vs. taxes/fees/port expenses.

The Spot On A Ship Many Cruisers Call The 'Naughty Room' And How To Avoid Being Sent There

C ruises can be a great place to shed your inhibitions, though they aren't without their own rules and consequences. Defying these regulations can lead to a trip to the ship's "naughty room." And before you get too excited, no, we aren't talking about the brig — although bad behavior can earn you a spot there. We're talking about a different kind of "naughty" room where prohibited items take their own kind of vacation.

Just like with an airplane, there are a bunch of objects you can and cannot bring aboard a cruise ship. Think of the naughty room as an extended stay in TSA with a lot more electronic mandates. If you pack items like alcohol, banned electronics (like a hot plate), or even candles, they'll be confiscated and sent to the naughty room, which is the playful name people have given to the place on a cruise ship where prohibited items are kept.

In some cases, if you're not careful, a prohibited or even illegal item could get you completely banned, like one cruiser who accidentally brought CBD gummies onto a ship in November 2023. If you make a mistake like bringing a drone on your cruise or packing a pair of scissors slightly bigger than what's permitted, you probably won't be banned, but your luggage could still be confiscated. And the only way to get your legal belongings back is to head straight to the so-called naughty room.

Read more: Unsettling Reasons You May Want To Avoid Taking A Cruise

What Does A Trip To A Cruise Ship's Naughty Room Entail?

When passengers pack prohibited items, their luggage is often kept by security for a period of time. Your suitcase won't magically appear inside your cabin either. Instead, you will receive a message that you can go to the naughty room and retrieve your belongings. However, you won't be allowed to get the banned item back until the end of the cruise, and security may still have a few questions for you, too.

This approach makes sense, though, especially for things like electric devices. Items such as power strips are banned for good reason. Cruise ships aren't built for certain kinds of electric overload, so you won't be getting that clothing iron back until the end, either. That's why it's ultimately just as important to know what to pack for a cruise and what to leave behind as it is  to know which cabins to avoid .

Carnival brand ambassador John Heald often hears stories about the naughty room, and it makes him chuckle. "I do have to say I always smile when I hear the place on deck 0 where these inspections are carried out referred to a  'the naughty room,'" he wrote on Facebook . "Where did this ever start? Was it my late Mum who came up with this?" Heald also conducted a poll on Facebook in 2019 asking passengers if they'd ever been sent to the naughty room, and 9% answered "yes."

Prohibited Items In Carry-On Luggage Can Also End Up In The Naughty Room (Or Disappear Altogether)

Cruisers who think they're sneaky by putting prohibited items in their hand luggage aren't so coy. Cruise lines don't just screen checked luggage — they look into everything. If you tuck that coffee maker neatly into your hand luggage, they're going to find it. Carry-ons can end up in the naughty room just as easily as checked bags.

If you plan on sneaking liquor, you should especially reconsider. Some people might be able to get their wine or alcohol back, while others will be out of luck. On Reddit, cruise ship passengers shared their stories about getting sent to the naughty room or having something confiscated with varying results. "On Carnival I had some extra wine in my luggage," one Redditor wrote. "They took it out and placed a very nicely worded note telling me that the item was not allowed and it would be confiscated. They did not give me the option to get it back. They also did not call me to the 'naughty room' but I do not lock my suitcase when handing it to Carnival handlers." Several others in the thread confirmed that their food or beverage items were also not returned.

It lives up to the hype....This was by my the best family vacation ever.... It is worth the price.... Pros: The ship itself is stunning and beautiful with so much to offer. It was seriously hard to do everything in 7 days. I was on a packed 4th of july sailing and it never felt too crowded -Entertainment- the 3 main production shows were all amazing, Starburst Elemental Beauty was the best. I recommend getting to all the shows 1 hour before to reserve the best seats. -pool/ waterpark- plenty of options and everything was spread out. Once again wake up early and get in line early on sea day -food/ bars- So many options- MDR and Windjammer were higher quality then other Royal ships. Aquadome market is a nice additional late night option. Cons: Crew was a little understaffed on my sailing The Infinite balcony room's AC shuts off when the window opens

This may have all the novelty of being the biggest ship on the ocean, but bigger is not better. My entire trip was horrible and plagued with one issue after another. First, it was the pre-cruise planning people. The bumped my daughter off the boat, but she's an infant who needed to travel with her mother. When we tried to get her added back they told us it was full. While that got resolved, I had to spend two weeks with my only options being a partial refund or being moved to another ship/date. No never mind we booked this cruise two years ago. Once onboard, it got worse. The food options were basically twelve varieties of the same things. The waiter our first night got food allergies wrong and brought me an entire meal that was not what I ordered. Rather than fix it, the supervisor backed him. That night she called after 10pm and woke the baby. All because they wanted to know in advance what we wanted to order for the following night. A practice they hounded us about every night. No never mind that the food in the dining hall made me very sick. The second day, the ship lost total power while at sea for over two hours. It was humid, and I'm sure a lot of food went bad. The following night we asked for a new table and waiter. It was going fine for a couple days, but the food made me sick every night. Nova, our new assistant waiter was the only good thing about the dining hall. Also, if you accidentally forget to tell them that you have dinner reservations at another restaurant onboard, they will get mad at you for not showing up. The second to last night of the cruise, we found out 9 of the 10 chefs were Indian. This explained why I got sick. Their prep methods of cooking were not sanitary. That night I ordered surf and turf (pre-ordered mind you). It was served nearly raw. Both the steak and lobster. I each my steak medium well. They severely messed it up. After the big revelation, I ask to not have my food replaced. They kept insisting that they bring me a new plate. Even after I told them no four times, and after my wife had eaten, they bring me a new plate. They can't do anything right. Also, the ports of call are third world tourist traps. There is nothing good to see in those poor impoverished islands. You are taking a risk with your life on this cruise. Someone got airlifted out while we were at sea going to Coco Cay. I heard they died on the boat. Not sure if it's true, but a staff member told me. Also, every show we went to had at least one "technical difficulty." Poor Dorothy got stuck flying on the bed over the crowd for a half hour. Don't get on this boat, don't sail with Royal Caribbean. I used to love cruises. I will never take another cruise again. Oh, and don't fall for the "savings on booking your next cruise" they'll try to trick you into getting the credit card and then sell you a cruise "that's almost fully booked" for more than it cost to go on Icon. Getting in and out of port in Miami is also a nightmare. Everyone is rude, and the price is not worth it. Simply, don't go!

They are a bunch of conmen. And people keep deficating in the pools. Don't go, it's miserable. You will hate it. The customer service is horrible and not worth the money. Get out while you can!!!

They denied allowing my 9 month old daughter to join us. She has a medical dependance on her mother and they won't make an exception. We having even gotten on the boat and I already hate it. The customer service is the worst I've ever experienced. I will tell everyone to skip this company. Trust me, I will never pay you another dime or take another trip with you. You have lost my confidence 100%

I really love this ship. It has set the bar high for cruise ships to follow and makes it hard to sail on cruise ships made prior to her. Currently it is the largest cruise ship in the world, but that will be short lived, as there is one being built that is bigger. It can hold about 8,000 people, but honestly there is so much to do and everything is spread out so much that I did not even notice that there was that many people on board. This ship has it all, including a rock climbing wall, Flow Rider, Crown's Edge, karaoke, scavenger hunts, Adventure Ocean (kids club), miniature golf, a comedy club, trivia, ice skating, dueling pianos, the largest water park at sea (with some awesome slides), the largest pool at sea, an adults only pool area, a basketball court, volleyball, seated soccer, and a carousel. The staff is absolutely amazing. The "washy, washy" guys were awesome. They were always so positive and welcoming to all the visitors of the Windjammer. I never had a negative or bad experience with any of the staff. They were like the all-stars of staff. Embarkation and Debarkation was so easy. It took about 10 minutes to do both. Everyone in your group having a passport makes debarkation even quicker. They really have the process down. The ship features a comedy show, a couple of ice skating shows and a production of the Wizard of Oz (was broken during my sailing, but they did the songs from it), comedian/world champion juggler Adam Kario, the Legends of Rock and AquaAction, a fast paced show that features a light show, diving, skateboarding, synchronized swimming, and aerialist. My trip was over Easter and the ship had a visit by the Easter Bunny. Other notable ships events include a Sail Away Party, a 70s party, a One-hit Wonder Party, a Ships Ahoy Parade, and military appreciation ceremony. I went to them all and absolutely loved them. The ship has a bunch of bars around the ship including a swim up bar, Swim and Tonic. That bar allows kids and was my son's favorite place to swim. My favorite bar was Lime and Coconut. It has the best drinks in my opinion, but I am partial to fofo tropical drinks. It should be noted that the ship's elevator system is the new rave. It is the same system used in new high rise building that you select the floor you want at a kiosk and then it tells you what elevator to go to. It is so efficient. The pool has a bunch of pools and hot tubs, some even over look the edge. There was an issue with kids pooping in the pool and it having to be shut down and drained while I was on the ship. There was also an issue with guests reserving chairs on the pool deck, but that is to be expected. i was always able to eventually find somewhere to sit though after a few minutes. There is no shortage of food options here. You can always dine in the main dining room for diner f you want. I never did though, because I wanted to grab and go, so I could explore the ship more. Some free options include the WIndjammer (buffet style), The Park Café, The Pearl Café, Base Camp, Sorrento's Pizza, El Loco Fresh, The AquaDome Market, Surf Bites and all the ice cream you can eat. Some premium restaurants that you can eat at for an additional fee include Pier 7, Chops Grille, Hooked Seafood, Izumi, and Playmakers Sports Bar, which is a great place to catch a game. The suites also have a couple of restaurants (The Grove & Coastal Kitchen) that is exclusive to suite guests, But I never got close to them. Wherever you choose to eat, you can't go wrong. For those that would like to stay fit while on the cruise, they have an awesome gym, a track that is almost a half a mile and organized classes. I loved everything about the ship, but my favorite spot was the Lookout in the forward of the ship in the Aquadome Area. The have some awesome seating up there that you can get some amazing sunset views. Seating is hard to come by up there though because people set up camp there when they do get a spot. I had an infinite balcony room and even though I do not have any other room to compare it to on the ship, it was one of the better room types on the ship, outside of suites. I could open it up to a ocean view balcony and then close the window and extend the room out to the balcony. The only thing with that room is that it took me a few days to figure out some of the rooms nuances and controls. Additionally, the ship has a resident Golden Retriever, Rover, that has a cult following and greets guest while they are on board. You may also catch a guy doing pop up piano shows in hallways and lobbies. The ship is always so clean and organized. You can tell that they put a lot of effort into keeping the ship clean. This is my favorite ship by far and highly recommend sailing on it if you have the opportunity to. I know large ships are not everyone's cup of tea, but this is perfect for me and my family. The staff is amazing, the food and drinks are delicious, and there is so much to do.

Do the rooms have refrigerators?

We will be sailing on Reflections in about 2 weeks and were curious whether they had drinks in the cabins. If not, are u able to take canned drinks (soda) to ur room? Im one of those people who likes to have something with flavor to drink first thing in the morning, lol. Also, if they already have drinks in there, is there an additional charge to drink those? Silly questions, I know but its our first cruise and I admit, I'm a little intimidated by all the stuff involved.....in a good way! ;)

It's basically a mini bar, we just asked our room attendant to empty the frig and we placed our soda and water in there

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Perfect.......now where do u get the sodas? lol

sptrout

Our frig was nearly empty when we boarded in December, which I believe may be SOP now. In anycase do not expect it to keep anything cold, more like a degree or two above room temperature (well maybe 5 degrees LOL).

ClaudiaB

Unless you are in the top level suites, the mini bars cost money.

You can have your stateroom attendant remove the contents to make room for what you want to put in there. We also ask them to not bring any extra "for sale" items to the room. Sometimes of basket of candy or nuts or things will appear to tempt you to buy it. We hate that - and ask on the first day to just not bother.

Have your stateroom attendant fill your ice bucket at a certain time every morning. The 'refrigerators' aren't really refrigerators like you have at home. They're coolers. They'll keep a coke or beer pretty chilly but not as cold as you'd probably want. Just put your drink on ice.

Of course you can bring your own drinks to the room! If you want, get some at one of the bars unopened. We usually have a beverage package and bring a Diet Coke or some bottled water to keep in the room - we just grab some during the day on our way up.

If you're not on a beverage package, just bring a case of water, cokes, juice - whatever - and slap a luggage tag on it and they'll deliver it with your luggage.

Fantastic and thank you all. This cruising stuff is a little different but I'm learning!!!

If you aren't on your roll call, join. Lots of seasoned travelers there who love to answer questions! It's how we all learned. Have a great trip!

5,000+ Club

All the items in the mini fridge will be at cost - but if you don't have the beverage plan all sodas will be an additional cost so I don't know if the mini far fridge is the same or more.

At the buffet and dining rooms you'll have regular/decaf coffee, iced/hot tea, and lemonade and tap water available for free. There will also be juice in the mornings.

I like to bring a big refillable water bottle and fill it at the buffet (removable top) or in the stateroom sink and then add mio to it for flavor.

I have the same issue. I understand that there are no microwaves for guest use onboard. My backup plan is to bring one of the gel packs that you can either microwave or heat in hot water, and heat the pack in the sink. I think room service should be able to provide a carafe of hot water or I'll fill my own thermos at the buffet.
