Cynic has never disappointed me with their live show. Great performance and every song in the set was killer, with old favorites and new releases healthily mixed. Paul even broke out the acoustic guitar for a remixed version of "Integral." Even though Sean was ill and wanting to puke his brains out the whole time, he still nailed all the bass parts.
Even with venue switching drama and seeing the band play in a VERY small sideroom, it was a great time. Paul said he liked the intimacy and it made for a fun performance.

CYNIC Announces March 2024 European Tour With OBSCURA
This year, progressive metal pioneers CYNIC celebrated the 30th anniversary of their landmark debut album. Interstellar shredder Paul Masvidal and his band of aliens played "Focus" in all its mind-bending intensity, while also paying tribute to late drummer Sean Reinert and bassist Sean Malone , on a special headlining tour of North America.
Now, CYNIC is busy preparing for its next voyage. The cosmos have conspired to bring the progressive music icons to Europe next March. But this won't be an ordinary tour, earthlings — the planets have aligned for CYNIC to cross paths with OBSCURA and CRYPTOSIS .

* Only CYNIC
More dates will be announced soon.
CYNIC 's touring lineup features Masvidal on vocals and guitars, Max Phelps ( EXIST , DEATH TO ALL ) on additional guitars and vocals, Brandon Giffin ( THE FACELESS , THE ZENITH PASSAGE ) on bass, Matt Lynch ( NOVA COLLECTIVE , INTRONAUT ) on drums and percussion, and Zeke Kaplan on the keyboard. Lynch has been drumming with CYNIC since 2015 and appeared on the band's latest full-length, "Ascension Codes" , as well as the 2018 single "Humanoid" . Additionally, Phelps , having also appeared on "Ascension Codes" , and Giffin have previously toured with CYNIC during the band's "Carbon Based Anatomy" and "Kindly Bent To Free Us" tours.
Released in 1993, "Focus" is a certified classic. Although that era ended with transformation into the short-lived PORTAL , and then a further splinter toward AEON SPOKE , CYNIC 's reunion-era has found them embraced in a way that proves how ahead of the times they were in the '90s. Through monuments such as the "Traced In Air" (2008) and "Kindly Bent To Free Us" (2014) albums, the "Carbon-Based Anatomy" and "Re-Traced" EPs, and a surprising rebirth with the "Humanoid" single of 2018, the CYNIC legacy remains untarnished.
The year 2020 will go down in history as a tremendously difficult time for the global human population. For the CYNIC family, the struggle was not restricted to a pandemic. It was two utterly senseless losses that threw the band's immediate concerns into the background: the premature deaths of drummer Sean Reinert in January, at age 48, and bassist Sean Malone in December, at age 50, were shocking and unthinkable.
Reinert , a founding CYNIC member since formation in 1988, was highly influential to a multitude of young drummers. His work on "Focus" and DEATH 's watershed 1991 album "Human" found him sculpting extreme technical metal with a jazz fusion-inspired approach. Now taken for granted, that approach to the instrument and the genre was undoubtedly pioneered in large part by Reinert . Though parting with CYNIC in 2015, his imprint on CYNIC is inescapable.
The death of Sean Malone dealt another horrible layer of tragedy to CYNIC 's 2020. In his many years with the band, Malone 's virtuoso playing meshed intuitively with Reinert 's. Together they formed a nucleus of kinetic, highly capable rhythmic dexterity that fueled CYNIC 's celestial aims.

CYNIC Shift Focus Tour South
Posted on July 28, 2023
CYNIC just wrapped up a special co-headlining tour of North America . Paul Masvidal and his band of cosmically gifted players celebrated the 30th anniversary of their debut album with help from their in-state buddies and fellow progressive music icons Atheist. So it’s no surprise to hear they put on a stellar show.
Loud Flash applauded Cynic’s intricate, headless guitar riffs at Vancouver’s Rickshaw Theatre. Meanwhile, at the Teragram Ballroom in LA, Metal Insider complimented the ethereal edginess between the clean and growled vocals. And Digital Beat assured that the custom mood lighting and tranquil but expressive playing made the band’s set at the Canal Club in Richmond “nothing short of amazing”.
But Cynic aren’t done commemorating the 30th anniversary of their debut album. The ReFocus/Remembrance tour is headed deep into the American South with five dates across Georgia, Louisiana and Florida, which is where the band first formed back in the late ’80s. They’ll be playing all of “Focus” and paying tribute to late drummer Sean Reinert and bassist Sean Malone.
Dates 09/01 Miami, FL @ Gramps 09/02 Orlando, FL @ Conduit 09/05 New Orleans, LA @ Southport Hall 09/06 Atlanta, GA @ Prog Power 09/08 Tampa, FL @ The Orpheum

The Australian summer made Minogue choose home grounds to kickstart her tour.
"It was, do we want to rehearse and start midwinter somewhere or summer and be home?"
She said the answer was simple to the delight of her Australian fans.
It is an understatement to say the news of the tour and her brand new album has everyone excited – including the pop princess herself.

"We've been working on this for months and months and months, so I'm glad that we can finally share it with everyone."
Minogue's seven-date Australian tour is set to begin in Perth (February 15), followed by Adelaide (February 18), Melbourne (February 20-21), Brisbane (February 26) and ending in Sydney (March 1-2).
What to expect from the tour — favourites and new mates
"I love touring," said Minogue laughingly.
Selecting the set list when you have such a celebrated back catalogue is not an easy task.
"It's just the hardest part of every tour, what is the set list going to be?" pondered Minogue.
With three albums that haven't been toured before – there's plenty for the star to choose from.
"I feel like I've done quite a few Greatest Hits tours or shows of late… so I'm excited to have some of that new material.
"Of course, I'll have the biggest hits, and I'm definitely already knowing I'm going to leave some space for some oddities," said Minogue.
"Positive and joyous" – that is the vibe she is going for in her live shows.
"It's something that I want people to feel from the show and from the music," Minogue added.
Padams popularity
It is a vibe that her last album's hit song Padam Padam achieved.
"I didn't set out to do that," Minogue laughed.
"It's been incredible, like mind-blowing, life-changing.
"Padam did that for me," she said.
It is the song that put her back on the map – adding a whole new audience to the legions of fans the pop star already had.
"I've just consistently worked and consistently try and keep achieving, and then once in a while, you get thrown a bit of, you know, everything coming together to make a good moment for you."

Tension the sizzling sequel
And the fun doesn't stop there.
While Tension has still got us grooving, Minogue is keeping the magic going with a sequel, Tension II.
"I think we got on such a roll," Minogue started as she thought back to how the album came about.
"As is often the case with albums… we just kind of had more and more songs. So we thought, well, maybe more is more."
The first song of the new album is called Lights, Camera, Action with a zappy "that's it!" that follows the beats.
Fans will be able to listen to the new song in full on September 27 with the whole album being released on October 18.
If you can't wait till then, there's a teeny-tiny tease on Minogue's socials to keep you appeased till the song's release.
"It's quite hypnotic. It's lots of fun, and you will probably just be throwing in Lights, Camera Action to general parlance from now," she added.
"And I'm sorry, you're welcome whichever way you want to look at it," Minogue shared laughingly.
Tickets go on pre-sale from September 24 for Telstra Plus members, September 26 for Frontier members and October 2 for general sales.

Uk duo big special announces debut australia tour with radio free alice and sex mask.
This November, the rising British post-punk stars will be playing three dates down the east coast.
Big Special have announced their first-ever Australian tour, where they’ll be joined by two of Melbourne’s most exciting up-and-comers.
The tour kicks off in Brisbane on Thursday, November 28, at Brightside, followed by a show in Sydney at Mary’s Underground on Friday, November 29, and wrapping up in Melbourne at The Corner on Saturday, November 30.
Big Special 2024 Tour
- Nov 28 – The Brightside, Brisbane
- Now 29 – Mary’s Underground, Sydney
- Nov 30 – Corner Hotel, Melbourne
Keep up with the latest music news, features, festivals, interviews and reviews here .
Big Special, comprised of vocalist Joe Hicklin and drummer Callum Moloney, are known for their unique blend of punk energy and heartfelt lyricism.
Springing from relative obscurity with their breakout first album Postindustrial Hometown Blues, the band has become one to watch, playing Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds and touring extensively across the UK, Europe and South America.
The widely acclaimed album delves into themes of depression and societal struggle, wrapped in a sound that balances raw honesty with moments of soulful reflection. Hicklin’s stirring vocals shine in standout tracks like Black Dog / White Horse, capturing the poignant tension between despair and hope.
Joining Big Special is Radio Free Alice , a Naarm-based band that’s quickly making waves in the local punk scene. Fresh off an Europe/UK tour stint and an Australian headline tour, the band has a nostalgic sound that channels early 2000s indie influences, delivering anthemic riffs and energetic performances. With their recent EP, Polyester, they showcase a fresh take on the genre that is both familiar and exhilarating.
Rounding out the lineup is Sex Mask , a rising Naarm trio that blends alt-rock and punk with a cheeky, playful twist. Part postmodern riddle, part manifesto, their music maintains a contagious and raw energy that resonates with fans.
Tickets to see Big Special on their debut Australian tour go on sale at 5pm on Monday, September 23. Get them here .
