Top destinations on cruises from new jersey.

On a cruise from New Jersey, you’ll be delighted by the British charm and tradition tempered by island vibes. Here, the sand on the beaches has a pink hue and the water is an ethereal shade of blue. Whether you love to golf, snorkel reefs and old shipwrecks, or simply unwind on a beautiful beach, you’ll find many options here.

Greenland & Iceland

What Greenland lacks in population it makes up for in spectacular scenery, Danish culture, and awe-inspiring nature. Take some time to visit museums, watch glaciers calve, and take photos of breathtaking fjords. In Iceland, you can visit a working farm to learn about Icelandic horses and dairy cows, take a polar flight to the edge of the Arctic Circle, or hike through unspoiled wilderness. While you’re here, don’t miss a relaxing soak in one of Iceland’s many geothermal pools.

Southern Caribbean

Cruise from New Jersey to Fort Lauderdale, stopping in Bermuda, Aruba, and Curaçao along the way. Snorkel or scuba dive to see any of Bermuda’s over 300 shipwrecks. Lounging on pink sandy beaches and exploring the Crystal Caves are two more must-dos here. Experience Aruba's coral reef and tropical fish with a unique helmet dive and guided tour that lets you walk on the ocean floor. In Curaçao, cross the floating Queen Emma Bridge for gorgeous views of Willemstad and bring home a bottle of blue Curaçao from the source.

The Cape Liberty Cruise Port is conveniently located in close proximity to Newark Airport and is less than an hour’s drive from New York City.

Top Sights & Attractions for Cruises Leaving from New Jersey

Statue of liberty.

Many of the best photographs, postcards, and video footage of the Statue of Liberty were taken from the incomparable vantage point of Cape Liberty. A gift from France to the United States as a gesture of friendship and amicable relations, the Statue of Liberty was unveiled in October 1886. For American citizens, immigrants, and visitors alike, the raised torch of the Statue of Liberty towering 305 feet above the New York Harbor now symbolizes freedom and goodwill to all who arrive on American shores. Immigrants making the long, treacherous voyage across the ocean to the U.S. were greeted by Lady Liberty welcoming them to their new home.

Downtown Manhattan

If you can, take a few extra days before or after your cruise from NJ to spend time in nearby New York City. Manhattan, the heart of NYC, is home to some of the most famous sights and attractions in the world. Spend a night on Broadway and watch your favorite musical. Stroll under the neon lights of Times Square among thousands of New Yorkers and tourists alike. Read a book in the green grass of Central Park and stand under the Empire State Building to understand its unparalleled vastness. Visit the myriad of museums, restaurants, libraries, famous movie filming sites, and architectural wonders in this amazing city.

Home of Alexander Hamilton

On a cruise from NJ, don’t miss a visit to the home of Alexander Hamilton in Manhattan, The Grange at 141st Street. Born in 1755 on the Caribbean island of Nevis, Hamilton came to New York at the age of 18, became a hero of the Revolutionary War, and went on to become a congressman, a prominent lawyer, and the first Secretary of the Treasury.

Learn More About Cape Liberty Shore Excursions

Where can i eat near the cape liberty cruise port.

Although there are no restaurants near the port, the nearby city of Newark has every restaurant and type of food imaginable. Additionally, there is a food truck with coffee, bagels, and other delicious bites outside the entrance of the cruise terminal, which is convenient for those departing on cruises from New Jersey.

What’s the culture & history of the Cape Liberty cruise port?

Conveniently located in Lower New York Harbor, the Cape Liberty Cruise Port was originally created by private developers in 1930 who intended it for industrial use. However, the ideal location and sheer size of the port made it an ideal candidate for use by the U.S. Navy in WWII. The peninsula upon which the port sits off the eastern end of Bayonne Bay is man-made. In 2003, the BLRA and Royal Caribbean International announced their agreement to turn the 430-acre port into a cruise terminal, and in 2013 Royal Caribbean International built a brand new, sleek, and innovative cruise terminal featuring LED lighting and modern design.

Where can I go shopping near the port?

Since the cruise port sits on a peninsula off the mainland, there are no shopping options in proximity to the port, besides a kiosk with basic essentials in the cruise terminal. About a 20-minute drive from the port, guests can find TJ Maxx and Walmart for last-minute cruise essentials.

How can I get around New Jersey?

While public transportation is available to bring you to a drop-off point outside the Cape Liberty cruise terminal, Port Authority prohibits any guests to arrive at the port in any transportation other than a motor vehicle. Pedestrians are also prohibited from entering the restricted port area, so walking from the bus drop-off station is not an option. Therefore, you’re required to acquire a taxi or other car service for the remainder of the way to the terminal (about a $10 taxi fare). Taxis, Uber/Lyft drivers, and private car services all have access to the restricted areas of the port as well.

What are the local currency and tipping customs?

The official currency in Cape Liberty is the US dollar (USD). Major credit cards are widely used and accepted, and ATMs are readily available throughout the city and port. Most prices displayed on merchandise and food do not yet include gratuities or taxes. Tipping is not mandatory but is generally considered to be proper and appropriate etiquette for services rendered.

Cruising from New Jersey in winter?

gottacruisemore

Cool Cruiser

I will be booking my first X cruise soon and am trying to decide between the Equinox and the Silhouette. I will be going for a Feb. 2012 sailing and FLL offers immediately warmer weather than Chicago and simple packing. And while no one can predict the weather, this year's winter makes me seriously think about flying from Chicago to N.J. But my main concern is clothing and outdoor space usability. Has anyone done this itinerary (on a different ship, of course)? How many days at sea before the weather warms up?

I have gone out of NYC in the winter. It will usually take two days before things warm up.

C-Dragons

We sailed on the QM2 from NY to the Caribbean roundtrip in mid December. It was cold, wet, and very windy when we left and as we sailed down the eastern seaboard, but the weather turned warmer as soon as we reached the waters off Florida (two days).

We have cruised out of NJ in the winter a few times. We always reached warmer temps mid day the second full day. Of course that's assuming the temps are warm down South. The first day is spent inside at various activities. When we took the Constellation where they have the indoor solarium and T-pool, we spent the first day relaxing there. The Atlantic is also a lot rougher most the time than the Caribbean so keep that in mind if you're prone to seasickness.

Yes assuming they are having warm weather down south I usually find that late afternoon on the 2nd day it is warm enough to go out.

Ocean Dancer

we did a 12 nighter out of baltimore on a much smaller ship, mercury, and you really don't need to overpack the winter clothes, the arriving day, everyone's in jeans and wearing their winter jackets. once onboard, the jackets are replaced by hoodies. the next day everyone is in sandals and capris reguardless of the weather, unless they are at the solarium pool where they are relaxing in their swim wear with an umbrella drink in hand...

have a wonderful feb. cruise :)

thanks for the replies. it's good to know i would not have to pack a lot of winter wear. no balcony time for about four days total isn't bad.

is the solarium on the "s" class ships enclosed?

Yes, it is.

We did spend time on our verandah on the way out. We were on the Port side and weren't affected by the winds blowing out of the West.

As a fellow Chicagoan I would recommend doing Equinox if sailing in February. While Silhouette is newer and has a couple different venues, this ships are fairly similar. Why spend four days in cold weather when you could sail on a similar ship from Ft. Lauderdale? The Caribbean cruises on Silhouette are great for those living in the Northeast (who can avoid flying down to Florida for such a cruise) but if you do not live in the northeast IMHO is makes little sense to fly to New Jersey to do a Caribbean cruise.

jerseygirl3

I agree, however, isn't Silhouette 12 nights and Equinox 7 nights? If so, I'd rather do 12 nights on a ship, even if a day or two coming and going is cool. You're still on vacation!

Unless perhaps you like extra days at sea, as many do.

Equinox is 10 nights. i was considering Silhouette because i would get the 12 night ititnerary and i believe this ship has Qsine. but i would prefer to leave from florida, so ii looks like i will miss out on Qsine this time around.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO gottacruisemore: You should go on the Silhouette. The cruise from FLL will be a shorter cruise. Also, the Silhouette will be a different ship than the Equinox. The weather in NJ will not be that bad. You may have snow at the worst. I have cruised out of NY on the QM2 last Nov. The weather on board the ship will be cool the first few days. Stay inside. Then it will warm up and on your way back to Bayonne stay inside. It did snow when we were passing North Carolina on the return to NY on the QM2.

Whichever trip you decide on choose wisely. Either one has certain advantages and disadvantages. Truth time, I am going on the Silhouette later this year.

We have had the worst winter in years in New Jersey with many flight delays and cancellations. I would never cruise from NJ in the winter. Too cold and too risky. Go to Florida. Warm weather will be with you as soon as you get off the plane. Flying down myself in April.

Since you live in New Jersey, I would say your risk is much less cruising out of New Jersey than flying to Florida. Do you know how many people were stranded in New Jersey after Christmas trying to get back to Florida? Some people were stranded at airports for 3-4 days.

I agree I don't think I'd actually fly to New Jersey to cruise in the winter, but living in New Jersey, your risk of driving to the port is a lot less than flying to Florida if a storm hits the Northeast.

In order to have the full length vacation you'd get with Silhouette, fly into Florida 3 nights early and spend some time on South Beach, Miami or Ft. Lauderdale - all three are great locations to spend a few days in winter time to get away from the miserable Chicago cold. Qsine sounds like a fun venue, but the specialty restaurants on Equinox are all quite good.

In winter, I fly to San Juan. The weather is warm from the start. Florida can often be cold...and New Jersey is frozen. I know I live there. New Jersey is fine in late spring and summer. Staring in NJ, you will be cold for days in both directions. I wouldn't do it....and could be at the dock in less than 2 hours.

Equinox has 10 and 11 night itineraries. So only 1 or 2 days

less. After this winter and all the airport closings, I personally

wouldn't chance it. Have been on cool weather cruises, and

for me, give me the warm weather. I cruise to get out of the

bad weather. I would fly down a couple days ahead of time,

and get out your flip flops and shorts and start your vacation.

Historical Statue in the Northeast Square

REVOLUTIONARY CHARM

New england cruises.

Fall in love with New England's enchanting foliage, historic landmarks and small-town culture.

New England's quintessential charm lines its streets — literally. Each of the six states that comprise the region is unique, but New England's shared history can be felt in both its small towns and its bustling cities. Cruise to New England and wind your way through cobblestone streets dotted with antique lampposts and colonial homes. Take a trip to Maine and hike your way through Acadia National Park, known for its stunning granite cliffs and rocky beaches along the Atlantic coastline. Then make your way further south to the old seaside town of Portland, a haven for artists, foodies and water lovers alike. Walk the Freedom Trail in Boston to learn about the American Revolution in the very places it began.

City Landscape in the Northeast

Freedom to Explore

Experience the sights, sounds and flavors of the cities where America got her start.

City Buildings in Boston

Walk Among Founding Fathers

Boston is one of the oldest cities in the country, and it has the historical landmarks to prove it. The Freedom Trail is a 2.5-mile walk filled with all of the rich New England history that you read about in books. You'll see the meetinghouses, churches and burial grounds that were integral parts of forming the United States.

Fenway Park in Boston

Fenway Is the Fun Way

Bring a bag of peanuts to a baseball game at Boston's famed Fenway Park, home of the Red Sox since 1912. The Fenway Park is one of the main attractions in Boston. If you're more of an art enthusiast than a sports fan, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum are both nearby.

City Buildings in Northeast U.S.

Satisfy the Senses

Delight your eyes and taste buds by enjoying tea and popovers at the Jordan Pond House, which overlooks the mountains of Maine and Jordan Pond itself. Portland, Maine, has a reputation among foodies — it's known for the indulgent sweets at Holy Donut, the locally made Gelato Fiasco and the delectable shellfish at The Shop. If you go to Boston, the North End is a Little Italy of pasta, pastries and cafes.

Beach in Acadia National Park, Maine

Hikes and Harbors

Experience the wilder side of New England in its less tame but still exquisite north.

Acadia National Park in Maine

All That Glitters

You can't miss taking in the sights of Acadia National Park in Maine during your vacation. Known as the Crown Jewel of the North Atlantic Coast, it's no wonder 3.3 million people visit every year. Hike to the peak of Cadillac Mountain — the first place in the U.S. to see the sunrise between October and March — then feel the rush of ocean waves down in Thunder Hole. Finish the day with a relaxing sun soak on Sand Beach.

Lighthouse in Portland Maine

The Maine Event

Portland, Maine, is the quintessential New England town, surrounded by miles of coastline and idyllic lighthouses. Visit the coastal shops and restaurants along Commercial and Exchange Streets. You'll find artsy spots like Asia West and Sea Bags Maine filled with keepsakes and sundries. If you have the chance, head to the picturesque Portland Head Light, a lighthouse just a 15-minute drive away in Cape Elizabeth.

City Landscape from Old Quebec

Trek Further North

The north of New England, at the tail end or beginning of your adventure, you'll find Old Quebec, a 400-year-old town that oozes European romance. Take a walking tour of this UNESCO world heritage site, making sure to take in views of the Citadel, the St. Lawrence River and the Chateau Frontenac (reputed to be the most photographed hotel in the world).

New England River

Revolutionize your next adventure with a New England cruise

From stylish Quebec City to the north, to the idyllic coast of Maine and the historic streets of Boston, there's always something a new thing to do on a New England cruise.

The Coast of Quebec, Canada

NORTHERN HORIZONS

Some of Royal Caribbean's New England cruises go as far north as Quebec and St. John's in Canada, giving you the full experience of the Atlantic coast, including the world’s famous New York City .

ONE WEEK DOWN THE COAST

A one-week cruise through New England will allow you to visit all of the can't-miss cities along the coast, from Quebec to Bar Harbor and even down to Boston .

WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO See New England Like a Local

Autumn is one of the best times to visit New England, with comfortable temperatures, crisp air and colorful fall foliage. Most New England cruises start, stop or finish in Canada, so make sure you have both Canadian and U.S. currency on hand. Depending on the season during your New England cruise, you'll need different clothes and footwear. Make sure to pack comfortable walking shoes as many New England ports are best experienced on foot. Packing layers is a good idea when visiting the region too. In the summer months, the weather can cool down at night so it's always best to have a sweater or light jacket on hand!

Pack comfortable walking shoes no matter which cruise you choose — New England cities are best experienced walking.

Try to wake up for sunrise when you're sailing along the coast for beautiful views of the Atlantic.

When visiting Boston, the easiest way to get around is by the subway or "the T" as the locals call it.

FRESH, FRIED AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN

Take advantage of New England's coastal locales by diving into some lobster rolls, oysters and clam chowder. Once you've had your fill of raw delicacies, indulge in the many fried options that the area has to offer, from donuts and cannolis to plentiful French fries.

Traditional Italian Cannoli from a Boston Pastry

Holy Cannoli

Once you've made it to Boston, you must try the delicious chocolate chip cookies at Chipyard located in Faneuil Hall. Another must-try are the cannolis at Modern Pastry in the North End, but be prepared to wait — these are not Boston's best-kept secret.

Fresh Oysters on a Plate

A Shucking Fun Time

Fresh fish and seafood is plentiful in Maine, especially in Portland. Head to The Shop, a raw bar and shellfish shop. The oysters are hand-picked daily — only the best for their customers!

Frite Alors from Quebec

Poutine, Please

Quebec's national dish is a must-have, especially at Frite Alors. This spot has been voted as the best restaurant for its classic poutine featuring crispy fries and semi-salted fresh cheese curds. Find out for yourself why the sauce is often described as a "blanket of love."
