Model Transformation

Inappropriate Media Images

Just what are they trying to sell, another big issue girls have in relation to the media is overtly sexual advertisements. one look at online and print ads for teencentric brands like abercrombie and hollister and it can make a parent cringe. the images are inappropriate and have young adults in provocative poses to sell overpriced jeans and tee shirts. by advertising their products in this manner, it makes it appear acceptable to girls this age to act this way..

Activities and survival strategies for girl scout leaders and volunteers, movies for the cadette amaze journey.

Life is a maze of relationships, and the aMAZE journey has Girl Scout Cadettes maneuvering through all its twists and turns.

And sometimes it’s easier to talk about those issues in the context of others’ stories, rather than battles girls are experiencing themselves.

Movie ideas and tie-ins for Cadette Girl Scout AMAZE journey

Inside Out:  Five Emotions must work hard when a young girl moves to a new city. (This would also be great for those Juniors, whose emotions are starting to run the best of them!)

The Clique : Claire is the new girl at school. She’s clearly not top Clique material and the girls have no problem letting everyone know it. But with a little luck, she might just stand a chance.

AMAZE Cadette Journey Ideas for Leaders

Princess Diaries : For teenager Mia Thermopolis, just surviving each school day is an adventure. Then the shocking news arrives that she’s a real-life princess! So begins a comical transformation towards poise and princess-ness, including a media storm, jealous schoolmates, and a plot to take over her country.

Karate Kid : When Mr. Miyagi rescues Daniel from the Cobra Kai, a vicious gang of karate school bullies, he instills in his young friend the importance of honor and confidence.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants : As the summer before their 16th birthdays approaches, four best friends with diverse family backgrounds and personalities hatch a plan to stay connected despite being separated. The girls pass around a pair of secondhand jeans that, magically, look wonderful on all of them despite their different sizes, with each teen keeping the pants for two weeks. Over the summer, the pants come to represent the girls’ mutual support of one another.

Sky High : The son of legendary heroes, young Will Stronghold carries huge expectations as he enters a high-tech high school known for molding the heroes of tomorrow. With no apparent superpowers of his own, however, Will seems destined to grow up a mere sidekick. But as he discovers his true strengths, he’ll also learn that it takes loyalty and teamwork to truly become a hero!

My recommendation is to check with your parents about any movie before sharing with your troop!

What other movies do you recommend for the Cadette aMAZE journey?

Easy Ideas for Girl Scout Journeys Take Action Projects

So you decided to do a Journey and the final component is the Take Action Project. The girls have to find a community need and create a way to solve the need on a consistent basis.  For example, a food drive is great, but it is a one time thing…unless the girls find a way to make some part of it sustainable. It needs to have a long lasting impact.

I read online about a troop who had a peanut butter and jelly food drive. The girls made the project sustainable by creating a pamphlet of peanut butter recipes that the food bank could be place in each bag of food. This could be copied over and over, making it sustainable.

A poster or a piece of artwork can also be a Take Action Project. For their Silver Award, these two Cadettes created a mural out of bottle caps and made a presentation to younger children about recycling. This piece of art is now a permanent fixture in the library.

A third kind of Take Action Project is to make a short video. YouTube is full of them, and they are there to be used by other leaders, as well as those who are looking for ideas on what to do for their TAP.

Creating a YouTube video will take time and of course, permission. You can make the video so that it will not be shared by others if that is a concern. Girls will have to write a script, get props, and rehearse before official filming begins.

The point of a TAP is to have the girls brainstorm ideas, put them into action, and in the process develop leadership and organization skills. As the leader, you want them to do something that is not only effective and has a positive impact in your community, but is also something they will actually complete. There are many incredible TAPs out there…in reality, these are completed by extremely dedicated groups and individuals. You know your troop best and what other activities you are competing against. Having your girls do a TAP that is doable for them is also part of the planning process.

Have you done a TAP?  What was it and how did it work out?

Bath bombs for the girl scout cadette media journey, plus 8 more bath bomb recipes.

cadette media journey ideas

  • Syd really wanted to make bath bombs with Epsom salts, so I found this recipe for us to try soon.
  • This recipe uses cornstarch . I'm not sure why it's needed, which is why I want to try it.
  • Syd thinks that these geode bath bombs look great, but I am extremely dubious--one, about what the coconut oil will do to our drains (mainly, clog them?!?), and two, about what the lustre dust will do in the bath (mainly, sit on top of the water and cling to one's skin).
  • I LOVE the idea of hiding a small treat inside of a bath bomb . I think that this would make such a cute party favor or gift for a kid.
  • We have some of this mica pigment for Syd's slime-making hobby, so we could make these pearl bath bombs !
  • A hidden color inside a bath bomb sounds really fun, and I have activated charcoal on hand.
  • Ooh, here's another bath bomb with activated charcoal in it ! I might be obsessed now.
  • I will never not love anything galaxy-themed, and I like the look of this particular galaxy bath bomb recipe the most.
