Azerbaijan and UAE mutually switch to visa-free regime

Azerbaijan and UAE mutually switch to visa-free regime

Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have entered a visa-free regime, fostering an ever-closer partnership between the two nations. As of July 8th, 2023, citizens of both countries will be able to stay in Azerbaijan and UAE without a visa for up to three months. This momentous development not only signifies the rapid growth of relations but also paves the way for remarkable opportunities in various fields and sectors.

“We are excited to make a seamless travel experience for the travelers from UAE, making our destination more accessible. We are eagerly looking forward to welcome guests looking to explore versatile tourism experiences Azerbaijan has to offer” said Florian Sengstschmid, CEO of Azerbaijan Tourism Board.

In recent years, Azerbaijan has emerged as a highly sought-after travel destination for UAE travellers, in part due to its convenient direct flights and reputation as a dynamic cultural, and business hub. In 2022, almost 42,000 tourists from the UAE travelled to Azerbaijan which is more than double when compared to 2021.  With availability of the direct flight along with the visa-free regime exploring Azerbaijan has never been more accessible. Additionally, there are presently regular direct flights between Azerbaijan and United Arab Emirates. These include Azerbaijan Airlines and FlyDubai operating flights to Dubai, WizzAir offering flights to Abu Dhabi and Air Arabia servicing flights to Sharjah. With daily flights between Baku and Dubai along with other routes, the number of arrivals from the region is expected to grow further.

Azerbaijan is an exceptional combination of an Eastern country with a Western outlook. The needs of today's travellers are met by the availability of a wide range of modern amenities, such as world-class hotels, restaurants, and shopping centres. The country boasts a wealth of attractions, including the UNESCO-listed Old City of Baku, the Caucasus Mountains, the Caspian Sea, and the traces of the ancient Silk Road, there's an abundance of sights to discover. The capital Baku is a vibrant cosmopolitan city that has both contemporary and ancient architecture: the city's skyline is dotted with modern skyscrapers alongside astonishing historic buildings. The city has something for everyone - from exploring the cobbled streets of the UNESCO-listed Old City, enjoying a vibrant nightlife, and taking your children to the entertainment center at Deniz Mall, to indulging in the delectable local cuisine.

Azerbaijan is also perfect for nature gateways in to lush nature, perfectly complementing days spend in the city. As sustainability has been a big part of Azerbaijan’s tourism strategy, it leads to the development of many “green” experiences such as birdwatching and hiking routes, preservation of local products and age-old cooking methods within the framework of Slow Food Travel, as well as protection of touristic sites through sustainable heritage management. Among many enchanting regions of Azerbaijan with lush nature and delicious local cuisine, one that can stand out as a great family destination is Shamakhi. The region has a number of interesting locations, including Shamakhi Safari Park and Shamakhi Alpaca farm. Family travel is a unique experience, demanding not only a safe and secure destination but one that offers engaging activities for both adults and children. Azerbaijan fulfils this requirement with ease, delivering a wide array of engaging and diverse activities designed to captivate children and allow parents to relax.

In conclusion, Azerbaijan is an exceptional travel destination. Its blend of modern amenities, rich historical sites, eco-conscious practices, and family-friendly activities ensure it caters to every traveller's desires, making for an unforgettable holiday experience.

Azerbaijan visa on arrival for UAE residents

azerbaijan tourist visa for uae residents

From July 2018 onward all residents of the UAE are eligible for visa upon arrival in Azerbaijan with the following conditions;

  • All UAE residents will get the 30 days of tourist visa on arrival
  • The passport and UAE residence visa must be valid for at least 6 months after the date of entry to Azerbaijan.

  • If you wish to stay in Azerbaijan for more than 15 days, you will be required to make a registration at the State Migration Service of Azerbaijan. Please ask your hotel to assist you or you can apply through official website at www.migration.gov.az.

The whole procedure for getting visa on arrival at Baku airport is, you have to visit a counter for VOA just before the passport control. You have to go there and give your passport to the officer there so that he can verify your eligibility for Visa on arrival. Once he is satisfied with your travel document, he will authorize your document for Visa on arrival in the system.

Once authorized your travel document, in the same lobby there are four Visa on arrival kiosks from where you have to apply for visa and make the payment. Put your passport front page in the kiosk’s scanner, it will scan your passport and populate the first page detail like name, date of birth etc. If passport details are ok click next. On this page all the options are mostly drop down, select the relevant option like purpose of visit, citizenship etc. One of the options on this page is the place of stay, your hotel or your apartment address. Type the address where you are staying. If you are applying for multiple people or family, copy this address so that next time you can paste it directly. The next page is for payment, insert your credit card and make the payment. Currently Visa on arrival charges is USD 26 per person. Once the visa fee is authorized by the credit card a payment slip is generated. Now go to the passport control and give your passport along with this payment slip for entry stamp. They may demand few other documents like hotel/flight booking, keep them handy. Enjoy your stay in Ajerbaijan.

Please note;

Visa on arrival facility is available only at Baku international airport. If you are planning to enter from Rail or road route, apply for an e-visa.

If Azerbaijan is not your first destination from UAE, better apply for an e-visa. With VOA you are at the mercy of airport check in counter staff at some other country and if they don’t have clear idea they can deny you boarding.

e-visa for Azerbaijan can be applied through;

https://evisa.gov.az/en/

The website only gives you single-entry Azerbaijan e-visas, which become used and invalid after you leave the country. For applying an e-visa you need to scan the following documents and attach with your application;

  • Passport copy
  • 1 passport size photo
  • Hotel reservation/confirmation letter
  • Return ticket to Azerbaijan

Please note that:

  • E-visa is for tourism purpose only
  • Visa is for a single entry and valid only for a term of a hotel booking.
  • Visa cannot be extended; entry and departure dates cannot be updated once visa is issued.
  • Your e-Visa will be valid for 90 days and maximum term permitted to stay in the country is 30 days.
  • All documents must be scanned and uploaded in JPEG format (size not more than 1 MB).
  • Validity period of the passport or other travel document should be at least 3 months more than the validity period of the electronic visa planned to be issued.

The country has been popular for health, beauty, and religious tourism. Luckily, UAE is one of those 93 countries, and nationals of the UAE can visit Azerbaijan, i.e., they are eligible to obtain an e-visa for Azerbaijan. The good part is that if you are from UAE and you need a visa for Azerbaijan, you can obtain it in as little as six hours.

Azerbaijan Visa Requirements for UAE Citizens – 2022

If you are a UAE national and wish to visit Baku, there is a straightforward process that you need to follow. Baku is the capital of Azerbaijan; hence nationals of UAE can obtain a visa for Baku easily. The only difference between submitting a visa application for Baku and Azerbaijan is that you can visit any of its cities if you are applying for an Azerbaijan visa; however, if you are applying for Baku, you can only visit Baku.

Here are the requirements that you need to follow in order to apply for an Azeri visa:

Passport – One of the basic requirements for an Azerbaijan visa is that your passport needs to be valid for at least three months after the expiry date of your visa. It simply means that if your visa is about to expire within a week or a month, you need to renew it before applying for an Azeri visa.

A scanned copy of passport – You need to keep with you a scanned copy of the information page of your passport.

A valid/active e-mail address – UAE Residents who are applying for a Baku e-visa need to mention an active e-mail because the visa will be sent to their e-mail. If unfortunately, the e-mail is not active, or they have forgotten the password, they won't be able to receive their visa.

Payment means for UAE Nationals – You have a good number of choices when it comes to paying Baku visa fees for UAE. You can choose from the following options:

·       Credit/debit card

·       Paypal

Nevertheless, before you apply for an Azerbaijan visa for UAE, you must pay the Baku visa fee for UAE. Keep in mind that this visa application process is completely online, so there is no need to visit The Public of Azerbaijan Embassy. The Azeri immigration authorities will analyze and approve your application. This whole process will take up to three to four business days, after which you will obtain a visa for Baku for UAE, which will enable you to stay in Azerbaijan for 30 days.
